I will sum this up relativly quickly becasue this is just a passing thought but couldn't Tiger do the endorsments for GM for free or a seriously low charge to them. I am a Tiger fan. No question about it, he is the most brilliant person to ever play the game of golf, an absolute joy to watch and a class act aswell. When he hit the put at the open to force the playoff my hair literally stood up. That was unforgetable touramnet. But there is going to be thousands of workers left without a job and problems with pensions we dont even know about. Couldnt Tiger endorse GM as an attempt to resurrect the organization and help those people. Im not saying he should take heat for not doing it or anything like that. This is all based around the undersatnding that Tiger does, infact raise sales for GM, which i am assuming he does. But that would be something that he could do right now and it would be an admirable thing to do.
I don't know if anyone has posted a proposal like this before but it is obvious the world of college football is dying for a playoff. I understand the support for the BCS is that every game counts. More than any other sports the regular season of NCAAF is the most important and exciting in any sport.
This means the goal is create a playoff that will ensure the regular season will maintain its importance. I would propose a 6 team play off with with the top 2 teams recieving first a first round bye. obviously a first round bye is not as important as playing in the chapionship hgame but still EXTREMELY important and creates a much easier road to the championship based on this model.
Secondly the 6 teams that makes the playoffs would be based on overall performance through something like the BCS formula. This will not be based on confrence chapionships or anything like that. This will raise the level of competition in my opinion. Teams will be forced to play strong out of confrence opponents if they wont to break into the top 6 to make the playoffs. This make sure teams that deserve to be in the playoffs will be there and we will truly have the 6 best teams in the country playing for the chapionship not lower ranked teams who won their divisiona nd played out of confrence "cupcakes".
Overall i think the 2 spots open for byes will keep the regular season as exciting, not to mention 1 loss can easily drop a team out of the top 6. I also think taking the top 6 teams will froce teams to play harder out of cenfrecne games giving us more anticipated games as well as put the 6 best teams in the country playing for the title. the playoff games can be used as the bowl games for money and sponsorship purposes.
I think this model is the correct way to go or at least gives a basic outline of how the playoff should work.
Am i missing any pro BCS arguements that would casue this to fail??
Anyone have any imput to add........
Iv been in the process of developing a formula. It is based aroudn the stat, the stats correlation to winning games, and its revelence in that individual game. Im in the process of developing what to "weigh" each stat based on Its correlation to winning. Then how much that "value" should be used in that specific game. For example, rushing yeards will be weighed very heavily, but may not have much revelence in a texas tech.
Was wondering how many people actually use ceated formulas or forecast models to handicapp their games?
