What's up guys,
When I opened covers.com this morning and started looking back on World Series from years past, and then looking at major sports experiences from my life, either as a player or fan. I've noticed posts around here mentioning sons bonding with their dads over sports. Has this happened to you?
Personally, I was jealous of the kids who had Dad/Coaches. My dad, a European refugee, was more interested in crushing Heinekens on weekends and I'd be lucky if he even came out when it was my turn in the starting rotation. I went to a perennial powerhouse and played baseball in high school. I played for the winningest coach in state history who died before my senior year. I prepared for state championships, D1 college offers, and who knows what else. Instead, my coach passed, I had surgery on my arm, never pitched an inning, and watched my team faceplant in the state championship game. Looking back, I wouldn't change a thing (other than getting coach back for one last run). The lessons of camaraderie, teamwork, and dealing with life I learned with my teammates helped me way more in life than the lessons in class. I was even able to explain the concept of "changing speeds" to my dad around some beers as I visited him recently for spring training. We've both come a long way.
What did sports teach you about life? Did you bond over sports? Did you learn more from your success or your failures?
Thanks for sharing guys, CappingAlpha
