Dudes, Chicks (?) ...
I’m working on some year-end stuff for
my Cram Session column, and am in need of your
expertise.
I’m looking for the “Covers Community College
Football Forum Capper of the Year."
Records will play only a small role in my decision, because they
are impossible to verify.
More importantly, I’m looking for the capper who
brings the
most to the forums with informative, intelligent posts. He always helps
out others with whatever insight he has on a certain game, but never
ransacks a thread with his 25 locks. He is always respectful of
his fellow handicappers and never gets lured into the immaturity and
drama
that plagues the forums.
Post your nominations here or
send me a Covers private message. I’ll take nominations until bowl season. I
will then narrow the list to three candidates, before electing a winner before
the national championship game.
Thanks in advance for your help ... DP
Hi, guys ... I'm working on a story for Covers about how sportsbooks identify sharp action and was hoping to get some stories of players that have been banned or have had their limits reduced.
How'd they catch you? How'd they notify you? Thoughts, stories???
If you'd feel more comfortable, you can PM me here or email me at davidpaynecovers@yahoo.com.

Sometimes, fairy tales do come true.
(If there’s a cheesier opening sentence, I’d be surprised).
I’ve got a feeling that Lefty rolls at the St. Jude. I got him at -125 against Sergio Garcia at Betphoenix.com in today’s first round.
As you know, Phil Mickelson’s hot wife has breast cancer. Regardless if you think he is fake or not, it’s a sad story, and he’s clearly shaken.
It’s his first tournament back since making the announcement a couple weeks ago.
His focus could easily be completely thrown off. But I have a feeling he’s going the other way.
In fact, no matter what happens in the first round, I’ve got Phil’s back as long as he lasts this week. My winnings, of course, will go to breast cancer research. (Cheesy opening deserves a queso ending.)
Where do all the hot Covers Community handicappers go?
I’ve been around this site for a year now and I’ve seen guys get red hot then all of sudden disappear. Baseball guru A.J. Pierzynski is the most recent example. He was great, played lots of games and gave insightful answers to people’s questions. But I don’t see him around anymore.
He may still be here, and I’m just looking in the wrong spot. Or the story of his departure may be old news by now. But I’m just using him as a recent example. There have been so many more to come and go.
So where do A.J. and others go?
I’m sure some misbehaved and were sent to the penalty box. Others I assume became touts.
But I suspect the vast majority of disappearances were caused by the level of maturity in the forums. They probably just got sick of being criticized by some jackass, who posts things behind the anonmity of his keyboard that he would never have the guts to say to someone fact-to-face. Jackass.
On to other things … Phil Steele’s college football magazine hit the stands Tuesday. If there is a better publication out there, I’m not aware
Mr. Steele has the Gators, just like he did last year, ranked No. 1. I’m not seeing BCS odds up on BetPhoenix.com, but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time.
Sticking with college football, the first of my conference previews for Covers will come out later this week. If you have any suggestions on what you’d like to see included in these previews, let me know.
Right now, I’m focusing on teams that have the best quarterbacks, teams that are good over/under bets, teams that have the best O-Lines, ATS records for the past three years, home/away, in-conference, etc.
I’m also hoping to hook us up with some projected lines for the early games.
Let me know if you have any suggestions … Thanks … DP
