Hey guys,
I just heard through the grapevine that Boston Bruins forward Marc Savard is out for a while with a broken left foot.
The Boston Herald is reporting that he is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks, which sucks for Boston because it has stumbled out of the gates after such a great 2008-09 campaign. The Bruins are 3-4 and averaging only 2.7 goals per game. Savard was their leading scorer with seven points so far.
The team’s GM told reporters that Savard actually injured his foot in a preseason practice and was playing with the injury in the first seven games of the year before re-aggravating it in a 4-1 loss to Phoenix Saturday. Boston is also missing winger Milan Lucic, who is on the IR with a broken finger.
The Bruins are -210 home favorites versus the Predators tonight. The total is set at 5.5 goals. Boston is 4-3 over/under this season.
Hope that helps. Good luck B’s fans!
Hey gang,
I was looking into the early games for today and realized that the Sox are playing at 11 a.m. Wasn't sure why until I found out about the Boston Marathon.
Apparently the Sox play at home every time the marathon goes (the third Monday in April every year) real early, so they don't interfere with the race.
I checked back and over the last eight years the Bo-Sox are 7-1 on the day of the Marathon. Maybe the early start time is an advantage for the home side?
Oddsmakers must be aware of the Sox success in the early game. They've installed Boston as a -210 favorite against the Orioles.
Not much value but I thought everyone might want to know about that interesting little trend.
Good luck everyone!
Hey folks,
I was cruising the weather for today's MLB matchups and saw the wind at Wrigley Field is blowing directly at home plate.
Books are always cautious with the Cubs' home totals but this breeze, which is blowing NNE at 13 mph, has me thinking under for this afternoon's game against the Rockies.
This could keep a lot of balls in play and hinder two teams relying on the big fly early in the season. The Rox have knocked 12 out of the park while the Cubs have 11 dingers through seven games.
There is also a nice showdown on the mound with Jason Marquis making his return to ChiTown to face Rich Harden and the Cubbies. Both arms looked good in their season debuts.
Oddsmakers have set Chicago as a -219 favorite while Colorado is priced around +201. The total has yet to be released as of Wednesday morning.
Good luck to all!
Hey gang,
I think covers user 3825 beat me to the punch but I thought it might be worth repeating. The Giants plan on using Randy Johnson for the first three innings and then let Lincecum pitch the rest of the game. San Francisco is -125 favorites today against Seattle.
One other note for bettors: The Knicks are honoring past stars at the garden tonight. Patrick Ewing, Willis Reed, Walt Frazier and Bernard King are among the former stars to get the spotlight at halftime against the Magic tonight. Might be a little extra motivation for the slumping club.
Mike D'Antoni's boys are getting six points tonight.
Good luck with your plays tonight everyone.
Jamal Crawford and Stephen Jackson both won't play tonight against the Clippers. Jackson is serving a one-game league-issued suspension because of his number of technical fouls on the season, while Crawford is being benched tonight and Thursday according to head coach Don Nelson.
Nelson has sat Crawford multiple times this season and has admitted to telling the guard to opt out of his contract this summer.
The Warriors are 2.5-point favorites hosting the Clippers tonight.
On other injury note: NHL leading point scorer Evgeni Malkin didn't practice on Monday because of illness. The Penguins center is probable for tonight but it might be something to monitor.
Oddsmakers have Pittsburgh as -250 home faves tonight against the Thrashers.
Good luck with your plays gang.
