He is a great football player

He was the first round pick in the 2001 NFL draft
He was the first Black QB ever taken first in NFL history
He is a great football player and role model to all African Americans

He was the leader of the Bad Newz Kennels dog fighting ring, providing money for most of the gambling and killing of the dogs
He is inhumane to dogs/ He is a Gambling Addict

He is in Jail to correct his wrongs.

This does not change the fact

He is a great football player

it would be a crime to hold the negative part of his life over him forever.   Lets remember the positive

He will be a great football player

Where does it say anyone DESERVES a second chance? I wish to never see or hear from Michael Vick again. Does he deserve to be employed. Yes, like the rest of us living a life out of the spotlight. He didn't DESERVE the first chance he had to be a star, he earned it, just like he earned his present situation.

SteelCash:  So we're clear, the "SOUL" of my post was to show support for Michael Vick to be given a second chance in the NFL.  I'm glad we agree on the most important point and thank you for your detailed response (I read it few times)..

You mentioned many black QB's before Vick, but its like black civil right speakers paving the way for MLK (he wasn't first).  Vick was black and a QB, as were all the other names you mentioned, but he was more special than the rest, why won't you admit that?  I'm not saying he's on the level with Marino, Montana, and others you mentioned, but he could have been.  Where he left off was just 1 small step behind them.
If he's strictly just a good athlete, what do you consider QB's that never won a playoff game or took their team to winning records?  Also, lets not forget, Vick is less than 5% of the starting team, even if he plays perfect its only 5% of the team playing perfect.

I agree with your reasoning of what makes one a great football player.  but I steel need some help..If Vick was not those things good things you mentioned that make a football player great, it would have to mean he was the opposite of those good things?

Now outside the lines.  He spent his time unwisely, probably bad habits he picked up as a minor that were never fixed, and evolved into the horrible mess he got caught for.    BUT, SteelCash Listen

Fighting dogs is unjust thing to do, but in order to succeed you must do it justly.  Killing off dogs that no longer can win fights is the most cost effective solution.  Or, if the option were there, I'm sure Vick would have auctioned them off to slaughterhouses for some $$ like HORSE RACING.

As for torturing them, I'm sure it wasn't all his idea but it is sick, and thats why he's learning how sick it was in jail..  He will change, you must believe this

Killer B, have some mercy.

People make mistakes, he's not doing it anymore and won't do it ever again.

On the good side, His mistake will probably save more dogs than he killed ( I don't expect you to get that, but its true)
SteelCash says:

Actually I think all of those black QB's I mentioned were better than Vick.  I'm not sure why you're so supportive of the guy, but I guess it's a win/win situation if he truly does turn his life around.  I just dont think he can.

SteelCash says:

I think he can improve his life (nowhere to go but up), but I dont think he'll ever get back what he had.  If I recall correctly, he literally lost hundreds of millions.  And if he plays again, I dont think he'll earn anymore than 10 to 20 million total.  Then again it's like, "Gee what a bummer.  I wont earn that much."
Killer_B says:

BD31: I really am a compassionate guy and I don't think I'm perfect and all these athletes make mistakes and most of the time it's an instantaneous situation. However, a guy who gives the crowd the finger after a poor performance, gets caught with a bottle at an airport with a secret compartment, gives some broad the herp and tops it off with this dogfighting business has earned being the pariah that he is. The NFL doesn't need him in the least. He had it all and fucked it up. Why should I show him any mercy or wish to pay him with my money?

I think its very interesting to see the amount of people who will never forgive Michael Vick. I completely agree with those people who say his crime was violent, inhumane and disgustingly gruesome, because it truly was. But I cannot comprehend why people are unwilling to give this man a second chance. He has spent over 1 year in jail, which the judge deemed to be a reasonable and fair punishment.

People make mistakes, some are much worse than others. But people can learn from there mistakes, and make changes in their life.

Yes, this was a crime, but it was a crime against dogs, and I love dogs but like someone else said, these were not your puppies you've got at home. They may not have been cold-blooded killer dogs either but they were vicious dogs. Let's also not forget that dogfighting is more popular in the south than you think. Clinton Portis even made a comment saying, and I am paraphrasing but he said, "Its not that big a deal, it happens alot where Im from, Ive been to dogfights." No one seems to ever bring that up when talking about Vick, even though after he made that statement, Portis got ripped by everyone on TV.

So why is it that Michael Vick gets pegged as the one and only Piece of Scum that got a dogfighting ring together and murdered dogs. I will say it again, so people do not think I am ok with what he did, but dogfighting and murdering the dogs was wrong. But there are much worse things done.

Donte Stallworth got a DUI and killed a man. That man had a family who now have to live without their father and husband. Stallworth faces jailtime yet he has not gotten even a tenth of the scrutiny Michael Vick got.

It shocks me to see that so many people cared about these dogs being murdered, compared to the fact that hardly anyone seems to care about abortion. People say that Vick killed "man's best friend." Well millions of babies have their lives taken away before they even have a chance at life. Why does no one care about that? And if you don't think abortion is murder because the baby is not techniquely born yet, then you don't know anything about abortions but I will spare you the details.

What does this say about Americans? We care more about dogs lives than actually human beings? Do people not care about Stallworth because getting a DUI is more common than dogfighting? Do people not care about Stallworth's case because lots of people drink and drive and they can relate?

I just dont understand how people can hold such a grudge on a man, when he didn't do anything to you. He murdered dogs, but he didnt murder your dog. People have no connection to these dogs except the fact they like dogs in general. And no one says a peep about how the babies are defenseless when they are murdered.

Give the man a second chance, he did some pretty horrific things, but he's human. Everyone reading this has probably made some poor choices in their life, or has done something they knew was wrong but did it anyway because there was a small chance of being caught. I guess however if you are perfect, than you can hate and never forgive him. But then again, if you can't forgive someone, then you are not perfect are you?

I could say more, but I know not everyone shares the same religious views so I won't say any more, I think Ive made my point.

Killer_B says:

Him and his scumbag friends stole family pets and fed them to his killers like sparring partners. Look it up. True Donte Stallworth killed a guy, but it was instantaneous. He screwed up by drinking and driving. He didn't intend to hurt this guy. Do you get it? I want you to think about the lack of intent of Donte Stallworth and the life Michael Vick ENJOYED. You seeing the picture now? I'm not perfect but I KNOW I'M NOT A MONSTER to my core that would enjoy being involved with this.

If Vick never plays again in the NFL so be it.  But I would like to see him play again.   And mainly to stick in the craw of all these self rightoues people in this forum and in the world.   Vick is a qb and all ways will be a qb .   He's better than half of the qb's in the league right now.   Last time I checked Vick has a winning record as a starting qb.    And has done something that the qb on the team I cheer for hasn't done (Jessica Romo) and that is to win a playoff game.    Hell, he beat Farve in Green Bay at the height of Farve's career to reach the NFC championship game.
MikeyGB says:

You bring up good points Killer B. He may have enjoyed this lifestyle, which is sickening, but he has had a long time to reflect on his actions. I think that he has hit rock bottom, its got to be extremely difficult to go from having everything, to having practically nothing. Not to mention the millions of dollars he owes to creditors. Hopefully he has realized what he has done and will take actions to try to somehow make up for it.

However, you also completely failed to make any reference in comparing it to abortion. The doctors who do abortions are monsters themselves because they are informed smart people that know exactly what they are doing, which is murdering babies. Yet they do it anyway because it pays good money. Why does no one care about these monsters? Why is that a lesser crime, infact its not a crime at all?

And just because Donte Stallworth didnt intend to do it, does not make it okay. He killed a human being and will face a minimal jailtime sentence according to ESPN. However, I do understand your point. He was drunk, and when people get too drunk, it is very common to make much poorer decisions than one normally would make. But he is a highly paid athlete, there's really no excuse for not taking a taxi, or a limo. What is 25, 50 or 100 dollars for a ride home, to a guy who's making millions? Its nothing.

I know everyone's entitled to their own opinion, and that all right with me. Most people have their minds made up about him and will never give him a 2nd chance. I can understand not wanting to forgive him now, because he still has to prove he has changed. But I think people should keep an open mind about him in the future if he does take actions to make up for his disgusting and repulsive previous lifestyle. But then again, its just my opinion.

Killer_B says:
06/16/09 09:22PM

I respect your opinion as well and agree 100% that abortion doctors especially the third trimester ones are up there with the most heinous creatures on earth. It's a shame our society allows some irresponsible twat to kill her unborn child (the most innocent thing in our universe) a month from being born. If her life is in danger or it's incest I have no problem with it, but otherwise get it done within the first 9 weeks. I am also seeing your point that Vick has lost pretty much everything and will never get away from what he did which does please me. Stallworth get 30 days, just another outrage, should be 2 years minimum. How do you learn anything from your mistakes with a 30 day sentence. I live in Arizona, you get 10 days for an extreme dui, that makes a human life worth only 20 more. Insane.
MikeyGB says:
06/17/09 07:56AM

That is insane. It sucks that money can buy a lighter sentence.

WetMyBeak:   Whats up man?  You have some feelings about Mike Vick you want to share with us?

I wonder if you've ever been penalized for doing something wrong,, If so, how did it make you feel? Did it ever motivate you to change at all, or help you to finally see through the darkness you've been living in?

Life is about growing.  Learning from your mistakes.

If Mike Vick should continue to be punished after his sentence that was deemed to be an appropriate and just punishment by The Jury of his hearing, it would be a slap in the face.
Not allowing Mike Vick back into the NFL would be indirectly telling the judge and jury, they got it all wrong!

Not only that, but not allowing Mike Vick back into the NFL would be more inhumane than what he did to the Dogs.
He already pretty much crawled on his knees and told the NFL,  he would go from being one of the top paid athletes, to accepting league minimum.

The prideful cold-souled man he once was died along side of his dog fighting days.  They are nothing but a history lesson in his book of life.
Every man/woman deserves at least the league minimum of a second chance at life.

almost forgot to mention.

allowing Mike Vick to play in the NFL again would not only show the mercifulness of Roger Goodell & co, but it  will raise a lot of attention, a lot of attention brings a lot of audience, a lot of audience brings a lot of big bucks for NFL

It's a win win situation
