As November winds down, it is of course time for us to count
our blessings. Some are thankful for turkey, perhaps friends, family and all of
that stuff - but more importantly, we the sportsbook
customers should be thankful for UFC 92 betting.
While Dana White has put on some blockbuster events of late, including Anderson
Silva vs. Patrick Cote, and the marquee duel of Brock Lesnar and Randy Couture,
he may have outdone himself with his next pay per view lineup.
White has thrown a healthy portion of his big name stars
onto this card to kick off 2009, which may very well turn out to be the year
that he swallows all other MMA betting
promotions for good. He’s not far off either—only Affliction remains in North
America, and as far as combat sports go, outside of De La Hoya vs Pacquiao
betting, UFC
odds are the hot topic.
The de facto main event of this card is Griffin vs Evans betting,
however it could be any number of fights that White has scheduled that could
slide into the top slot. However, fans have followed the careers of Forrest
Griffin and Rashad Evans all the way from their time on The Ultimate Fighter. This
bout has all the makings of a five round slugfest, something Griffin is
becoming known for (see: Stephan Bonnar). While Griffin is a well-rounded
fighter, Evans’ kickboxing skills are likely to keep him at bay, and keep the
fight off the mat.
Many followers of UFC 92 odds
are suggesting that the Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson vs. Wanderlei Silva match
should be the premiere bout, or at least better promoted. Jackson is making his
UFC return after legal troubles stemming from a wild, Grand Theft Auto-style
police chase.
In terms of slugfests, this one might top the main event, as
two of the biggest bombers in the Light Heavyweight division will be swinging
for the fence. In a recent episode of ‘Sport Science,’ Jackson hit a punching
bag and ‘proved’ that an MMA haymaker is the hardest punch in sports. UFC lines
suggest that he will connect with at least one of those in this bout, making
him a slight favorite.
Fans of heavyweight UFC betting
will be making their picks on Nogueira vs Mir odds, in
what promises to be one of the most technical heavyweight fights in recent
memory. This should be the contrast to the all-out brawls that Griffin vs Evans
odds and Jackson vs Silva odds will be.
Those who appreciate martial arts skill will be captivated
by this bout, as two mammoth practitioners of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will do
battle. The interesting element to this bout is that the winner will go on to
face the current UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar. Moreover, Mir is the
man who handed Lesnar his first MMA loss in his UFC debut - so you can bet that
Mir will be hungry to capture the title shot, and that Lesnar will be hungry to
get his revenge.
