With Opening Day rapidly approaching, there’s no time better than the present to examine some MLB betting. Before the season starts, bettors can examine the sportsbook regular season win totals for each and predict whether they will go over or under the total.

With that being said, let’s take a look at the regular season totals for the five teams in the American League East division:

New York Yankees
Regular Season Win Total: 95.5

The New York Yankees won 89 games in 2008, which was considered a down season for the team. This offseason, they spent $423.5 million in free agents, bringing in C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Mark Teixeira. More importantly, they cut ties with some dead weight, like Jason Giambi.

The Yankees have a starting rotation that has the potential to be the best in the league. With Sabathia, Burnett, Chien-Ming Wang, Joba Chamberlain and Andy Pettitte, this is a very deep and talented unit.  The hitting will always be there in New York so if they stay healthy, the baseball betting fans should see them top 95.5 wins.

Pick: Over 95.5

Boston Red Sox
Regular Season Win Total: 94.5

The Boston Red Sox are among the most popular teams in the baseball betting nation and considering how much winning they have been doing recently, it’s hard to argue with that.

The Red Sox have returned another very deep, talented well-rounded team. Jason Bay won’t replace Manny Ramirez’s power but he is a good fill-in. Meanwhile, a healthy return from David Ortiz will mean that this lineup won’t experience too much of a drop-off. With a stacked rotation and a reliable bullpen, it would be a surprise if the Red Sox weren’t at the 95-win mark at the end of the season.

Pick: Over 94.5

Tampa Bay Rays
Regular Season Win Total: 87.5

The Tampa Bay Rays were the biggest surprise in MLB betting last year and while everyone kept fading them in hopes of a collapse, they kept on rolling. Expect that to continue again this season as the Rays are among the most fundamentally sound teams in baseball. They added Pat Burrell to the lineup to improve their hitting and along with the growth of a number of other young stars, such as Evan Longoria and B.J. Upton, the Rays will make the AL East a three-horse race.

Pick: Over 87.5

Toronto Blue Jays
Regular Season Win Total: 80.5

The Toronto Blue Jays had the best ERA in baseball last season but that could drastically change this year. Beyond Roy Halladay, the Jays starting rotation includes Jesse Litsch, Scott Richmond and Ricky Romero, all of whom are extremely inexperienced. On top of that, the Jays bullpen might take a step back as closer B.J. Ryan has lost about six miles per hour off of his velocity without any explanation.

If the Jays rotation can’t carry them, then the bullpen might be thrown in more often, which means fatigue could come into play as the season wears on. With a mediocre batting lineup behind them, this could be a very ugly season for the Jays.

Pick: Under 80.5

Baltimore Orioles
Regular Season Win Total: 73.5

While most people are very sour on the Baltimore Orioles, MLB betting handicappers should take into account that 73.5 is a very low total for wins. The Orioles could finish eight games below .500 and still go over.

The Orioles might lack a bit in starting pitching but they have the hitting to get some wins in the American League. And with the return of Chris Ray, the Orioles should have one of the better bullpens in baseball. This team isn’t going to win any pennants this year but going over the modest total of 73.5 is possible.

Pick: Over 73.5
