While
most people have turned their focused to the Kentucky
Derby odds and basketball
betting, since the playoffs are in full swing, we’ve still got our eye on
the NFL Draft. Although it’s passed, let’s take a look at the results and which
teams turned the biggest losers:
Oakland Raiders
The
Oakland Raiders have been one of the biggest losers on the field in the NFL for
most of this decade, and that’s often because they are the biggest losers in
the draft annually. With the seventh overall pick in the draft, the Raiders
drafted Darius Heyward-Bey, who is the fastest receiver in the draft but not
likely to be the best. NFL
betting fans know that the Raiders could have easily traded back about 10
spots and still had Heyward-Bey.
In
the second round, the Raiders also reached for another player, safety Michael
Mitchell, who was considered a fifth or sixth round pick by most teams. The
Raiders reached for talent everywhere.
Carolina Panthers
The
Carolina Panthers, who were already without a first-round pick because they
traded into the first round last year, traded away their 2010 first-round pick
for second-round pick Everette Brown. While that was a questionable move –
along with lots of their other picks – the decision not to add a wide receiver
in the draft was a curious one. They could use some help at the position.
Minnesota Vikings
Not
only did the Minnesota Vikings make a very risky pick in the first round, their
head coach Brad Childress is already bragging about it. Percy Harvin, who is a
wide receiver from Florida, was busted with pot in pre-draft workouts but that
didn’t seem to bother the Vikings. Furthermore, Florida has a long resume of
producing wide receiver busts, which waves another red flag. On top of that,
Harvin was more of a gimmick in a quirky offense at Florida, which means he doesn’t
know how to run routes properly yet and he might not be a reliable wide
receiver at all.
This
pick could be a massive bust.
Denver Broncos
Speaking
of teams that are clueless, the Denver Broncos might be at the head of that
list. Not only did they fail to get a quarterback to replace Jay Cutler, they
added another running back, which might be a really good pick, but it doesn’t
make sense since they added two other backs in free agency. NFL betting fans
should realize that now their backfield includes Knowshon Moreno, Selvin Young,
Ryan Torrain, Peyton Hillis, J.J. Arrington and LaMont Jordan. Well, at least
Kyle Orton will have someone to hand the ball off to.
The
Broncos lack identity and direction, which could make Josh McDaniels stay as
head coach a very short one.
