Alabama Crimson Tide at Auburn Tigers

Alabama Crimson Tide at Auburn Tigers
Friday, November 28th – Jordan-Hare Stadium - 2:40 PM ET
College Football Spread: Alabama -10

Alabama: The Week That Was

The Crimson Tide, like so many other SEC teams (including rival Florida), played a paycheck game in late November to rest up for bigger tests ahead. Alabama crushed Chattanooga, 45-0, in a bloodbath that was entirely expected. Running back Mark Ingram rushed for 102 yards in a shortened day of work, as the Heisman Trophy contender gave way to backups in the second half.

Punt returner Javier Arenas took a kick 66 yards for a touchdown. Alabama’s defense held Chattanooga to just 84 total yards and only five first downs while also snaring three turnovers on the afternoon. The Tide raced to a 35-0 lead with 9:53 left in the first half. From that point onward, coach Nick Saban began to focus on the Iron Bowl, saving his players from additional physical punishment.

Auburn: The Week That Was

The Tigers were off this past weekend, as they rested for Alabama without playing a cupcake. On Nov. 14, coach Gene Chizik’s team stumbled in Athens, Ga. Auburn fell to Georgia, 31-24, as an offense that started strong suddenly wilted against one of the weaker defenses in the SEC.

Georgia has been gashed by opponents this season, and in the first quarter, Auburn – behind quarterback Chris Todd – took advantage en route to a quick 14-0 lead. But after scoring twice... [More]

NBA Expert Picks – Jazz Host Bulls in Turkey Day Matchup

Bulls (+7) vs. Jazz (-7)
(O/U) 197½
November 26, 10:30 PM ET

The Chicago Bulls (6-7 SU, 4-9 ATS, 4-9 O/U) looked to be one of the best up and coming teams in the league following their thrilling seven-game postseason appearance in the first round of last season’s playoffs.

However, the team has clearly taken a step backwards this season following the loss of gifted scorer Ben Gordon, who bolted in free agency for the big bucks the Detroit Pistons were offering.

Chicago has lost three consecutive games coming into tonight’s Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Utah Jazz (7-7 SU, 6-8 ATS, 9-5 O/U).

Speaking of the Jazz, they haven’t exactly been setting the league on fire this season.

Jerry Sloan’s ballclub alternated wins and losses in six consecutive games before winning three straight, only to follow that up with a home loss in their last game.

Now, both teams will be looking to get back in the win column when they battle at EnergySolutions Arena tonight at 10:30 PM ET.

Chicago
Bulls are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games.
Bulls are 0-8-1 ATS in their last 9 games following a S.U. loss.
Bulls are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games as a road underdog.

The Bulls got spanked by the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday, losing 122-98 and not coming close to covering the NBA point spread as 8-point road underdogs.

Luol Deng scored a team-high 25 points for Chicago but the Bulls allowed the Trail Blazers to sho... [More]

NBA Expert Picks – Fast-Paced Sun Host Improving Grizzlies

Memphis Grizzlies vs. Phoenix Suns (-10½)
(O/U) 221½
November 25, 9:00 PM ET

Parting ways with Allen Iverson seems to be a winning formula these days.

After separating themselves from Iverson in a short-live stint with the team, the Memphis Grizzlies (5-9 SU, 7-7 ATS, 8-6 O/U) have played some excellent basketball, winning four of their last five games.

The Grizz will visit a Phoenix Suns (11-3 SU, 8-6 ATS, 6-7-1 O/U) squad that has looked very god all season long after getting back to the up-tempo style of play that made them perennial title contenders under the direction of maestro point guard Steve Nash.

Tonight, the two teams will both be looking to extend their winning ways when they square off at US Airways Center at 9 PM ET.

Key Trends
Grizzlies are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record.
Suns are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 home games.
Grizzlies are 2-5 ATS in the last 7 meetings.
Over is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings in Phoenix.
Over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.

411 on the Grizz
Memphis won and covered the NBA point spread for the fourth time in its last five games by beating the Sacramento Kings 116-105 on Monday night.

Rudy Gay scored a team-high 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Memphis to victory.

The Grizzlies covered the NBA moneyline as 5.5-point home favorites as second-year shooting guard O.J. Mayo added 20 points and sophom... [More]

Champions League Betting Group: Chelsea and Bordeaux fight for top finish

Chelsea FC and Girondins de Bordeaux are locked in a battle for top spot in their respective groups, against FC Porto and Juventus, respectively. Chelsea FC leads Group D with ten points but FC Porto are nipping at their heels, a point adrift. Bordeaux lead Group A with ten points but Juventus are too close for comfort, only two points shy. Indeed, these two distinct battles are the most compelling matches on Wednesday’s Champions League roster.

Soccer Betting Line:
Bordeaux pk  Ev   +180   2  O -120   U Ev  1  O +120   U -140   Draw   +210
Juventus  pk  -120   +160  2  O -120   U Ev  1  O -105   U -115  Draw   +210

Match Time: 02:45 PM Eastern Time Wednesday November 25, 2009

Soccer Betting Verdict: In spite of leading Group A and having home edge in this match Bordeaux are tipped slightly long to visiting Juventus on the money line. Bordeaux weigh in at +180 while Juventus at +160. The close proximity of the line suggests the bookies believe this match will end in a draw, listed at +210.

Given that the first leg between these two ended in just that a draw it would seem the smart play. However, I like Bordeaux. They are after spanking one of the most well-known clubs Bayern Munich in back-to-back matches. I think they will be confi... [More]

NFL Week 11 Review/Week 12 Preview

If Week 12 is anything like the week that just assed, BetUS NFL sports betting members had better be prepared for another doozy.

Week 11 produced another slew of upsets that should have pro football betting members really doing their homework heading into Week 12.

The Raiders and Chiefs led this week’s uprising of underdogs while the Lions and Browns hooked up in the most thrilling matchup of the week (and arguably entire regular season).

With that said – and another exciting week of pro football betting action set to take place in the BetUS NFL sportsbook – let me get started.

Dolphins 24 Panthers 17
Miami and Ricky Williams are looking very good right now while Carolina just can’t find any consistency. The Dolphins have another winnable game on Thursday night when they visit the mediocre Buffalo Bills while Carolina looks to bounce back from this loss on the road against the Jets.

Patriots 31 Jets 14
The Patriots got their revenge on the trash-talking Jets and battle the Saints in Week 12 in what will undoubtedly be a thrilling Monday Night Football matchup.

Raiders 20 Bengals 17
The Bengals dropped the ball in a bit way here pro football bettors. Losing to one of the worst teams in the league and failing to put more distance between themselves and the Steelers and Ravens in the AFC North.

Chargers 32 Broncos 3<... [More]

NFL Dog House for Week 12

As sports bettors, we're entitled to get upset at individual coaches, certain players, ridiculous play calls, or entire organizations for costing us wins against the NFL point spreads that we so desperately deserved. Here's what I'm ranting on after watching the football betting affairs from Week 10.

SS Ed Reed, Baltimore Ravens: The Ravens have always been built as a defense that takes a lot of chances. HC John Harbaugh probably didn't have a lateral on a punt return built into the game plan, though. Reed was put back to field the game's final punt for Baltimore against the undefeated Colts in hopes of giving new K Billy Cundiff a chance to be a hero and win the game. However, Reed exploded for a few yards before trying to lateral the ball to a nearby Raven. He never got the ball far enough, which resulted in a fumble the Colts recovered to seal the game. Of course, with the short -1 spread on Indianapolis, Baltimore failed to cover the spread and the Colts escaped with their 10th win of the season.

QB Mark Sanchez, New York Jets: It's never a good sign when you complete half as many passes to the opposing team as you do your own team. That's where Sanchez found himself on Sunday when he got yet another painful rookie lesson in his first season in the NFL. The Patriots held him to 8/21 passing for 136 yards with one TD against four picks. New York had a chance to cover the number thanks to a pair of unanswered touchdowns in a six minute span from the end of th... [More]

NCAAF Betting - Penn State Nittany Lions at Michigan State Spartans

Penn State Nittany Lions at Michigan State Spartans
Saturday, November 21st – 3:30 PM ET
Spartan Stadium
College Football Spread: Penn State -3

Penn State: The Week That Was

The Nittany Lions, still reeling from their loss to Ohio State and their subsequent elimination from the Big Ten race, didn’t bother to show up for the first 27 minutes against a bottom-rung opponent, the Indiana Hoosiers. Penn State trailed, 10-0, with three minutes left in the first half due to two interceptions by struggling quarterback Daryll Clark, and the locals in Happy Valley had to be worried about an offense that was missing in action.

Fortunately, Joe Paterno’s team rebounded just in time. Ten quick points in the final three minutes of the first half gave the Lions a 10-all tie heading into the break, and in the second half, PSU restored order by keeping Indiana out of the end zone until the final minutes, when the outcome had long been decided. A 31-20 win gives this team a shot at a 10-win regular season.

Michigan State: The Week That Was

Don’t ask the Spartans and coach Mark Dantonio how they pulled out a wild 40-37 decision at Purdue. Michigan State registered only 12 first downs to Purdue’s 28; only 362 total yards to the Boilermakers’ total of 524; and only 19-plus minutes in time of possession, compared to Purdue’s 40 minutes and change. No, Purdue didn’t cough up a ton of turnovers to balance out the scales: Both teams commit... [More]

College Football Week 12 - Oregon Ducks at Arizona Wildcats

Oregon Ducks at Arizona Wildcats
Saturday, November 21st – 8:10 PM ET
Arizona Stadium
College Football Spread: Oregon -6

Oregon: The Week That Was

The Ducks cruised past Arizona State, 44-21, and put the memory of their loss to Stanford behind them. Oregon breezed to a 31-7 lead midway through the second quarter to establish complete control, and although coordinator Nick Aliotti’s UO defense allowed the visiting Sun Devils to score two second-half touchdowns to pull within ten points at 31-21, the Quack Attack was immediately able to regain command.

When ASU made Duck fans sweat for a brief span of time at Autzen Stadium, Chip Kelly’s offense calmed those fears before they could fully develop. Led by quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, UO’s offense promptly pushed the lead to 38-21 just 92 seconds after Arizona State began to make things interesting in Eugene. The quick score showed that Oregon could do whatever it wanted, whenever it felt the need to take action.

Arizona: The Week That Was

The Wildcats were in search of their first-ever Rose Bowl berth as they traveled to Berkeley, Calif., to take on California. In accordance with the Wildcats’ failure-filled football history, they slipped on the banana peel just when it seemed they’d prevail in Strawberry Canyon.

NFC East Showdown - Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys

Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys
Sunday, November 22 – 1:00 PM ET
Arlington, Cowboys Stadium
NFL Point Spread: Cowboys -11, O/U: 41.5

Washington is coming off what is probably their best moment of the season, a 27-17 win at home over Denver. The Cowboys may be coming off their most embarrassing moment, a 17-7 loss in Green Bay. The Boys got lucky with Philadelphia losing and New York on a bye week, and stand one game ahead of both squads. The Redskins are last in the NFC East, but records rarely matter in divisional games.

Interesting side note: This game will be the first time Washington DT Albert Haynesworth and Dallas C Andre Gurode face off since Haynesworth, then with the Titans, stepped on Gurode’s face during a game three years ago. As if these two teams needed more reasons to hate each other.

What The Redskins Have To Do To Win

The addition of Albert Haynesworth has done wonders for the ‘Skins pass rush. The big man has been a force up the middle, and Washington has responded with 24 sacks so far this season, already matching their total from last season. More of the same will be needed on Sunday. Sure, Tony Romo has looked pretty good as of late, but it’s still Tony Romo. If the Skins can pressure him, he’ll be forced to make quick decisions and we all know how that usually turns out. It doe... [More]

Tim Lincecum is the NL Cy Young Winner... Again

Talk about joining some prestigious company! Well, technically, Tim Lincecum is in a league of his own. He has become the first MLB pitcher to win the Cy Young award in his first two full seasons in the big leagues.

Although his number were impressive this year, (15-7, 2.48 ERA, 261 strikeouts), the win came by the slimmest of margins. It was actually one of the closest Cy Young votes ever.

The way the balloting works is that you receive five points for a first-place vote, three for a second-place vote and one for a third-place nod. Lincecum only beat fellow St. Louis Cardinal teammates Christ Carpenter and Adam Wainwright by 6 and 10 points respectively. Tim, or Cy as he should not be called, tallied 100 points which included 11 first-place votes while Chris Carpenter received nine first-place votes and 94 points total and Adam Wainwright came in at a close third with 12 first-place votes for a 90 point total.

Although it wasn’t the closest race in history, that honor went to Philadelphia reliever Steve Bedrosian in1987 who edged Chicago's Rick Sutcliffe by the narrowest of margins, 57-55, it was still a very competitive decision, one that Lincecum is no doubt excited about.

“I almost jumped out of my window," Lincecum said, describing his reaction upon receiving the news. "Maybe not [literally], but I had to go to the window to take the call."

Below is the full list of candidates and their voting results:

NFL Week 10 Review and Week 11 Preview

If the surprising results of Week 10 are any indication of what’s to come, the remainder of the 2009 NFL regular season is going to be nothing short of a cardiac-challenging fight to the finish in almost every division, no matter the current records of each team.

This look at the Week 10 results across the league and glimpse ahead at all of the matchups on tap for Week 11 will give pro football betting enthusiasts an excellent idea of what to expect over the regular season’s final seven weeks.

Colts 35 Patriots 34
What a game NFL fanatics! The Colts remained unbeaten after pulling out a win in what looked like certain defeat, but the Patriots showed they are one of the top contenders to win this year’s AFC Championship.

It doesn’t get any easier for Peyton Manning and the Colts in Week 11 as they visit a well-rested Baltimore Ravens team that had a bye in Week 10 while the Patriots will likely bounce back from their heart-breaking loss at home against the Jets next week.

Bengals 18 Steelers 12
I called this ATS outcome perfectly for NFL bettors in the BetUS Locker Room this week. The Bengals proved they are very real threat to win the AFC Championship in this game and will almost assuredly win at Oakland next week while the Steelers also have what should be an easy contest playing at Kansas City.

Titans 41 Bills 17

Arrogance Murders the Patriots Against Colts

To say that the New England Patriots don’t play with an “FU” attitude is like saying that Frank McCourt’s ex-wife is a nice lady. There’s no discernible difference for between the two either. The Patriots, standing two minutes away from a victory over the undefeated Colts, stuck their middle fingers in the air, decided to put zero faith in their defense, and go for it on a critical fourth down from their own 28-yard line. For the most part, Belichik’s arrogance usually pays off. This time, it didn’t.

Watching the game from my couch like most of America, I was already trying to figure out if I would list the Patriots ahead of the Vikings or Bengals behind the Saints. I was convinced that they would win this game, throw a wrench in the NFL rankings and earn that juicy win over a previously undefeated Manning. Everyone was siding with Manning because he’s had magic in his pocket all season. And everyone was right.

The play call was arrogant. Brady should’ve forced the Patriots to punt the ball away, give Manning a long field with two-minutes left and hoped to God he coughed up a third interception. But how do you question a coach like Bill Belichik when he’s led you to three Super Bowl wins? And how, deep down inside, do you ignore the need to stick it to your biggest rival in a huge, prime time game? As Sunday Night’s ... [More]

Mike Singletary will get a chance to show his former team that he was more than a player. The first-time coach is 0-4 SU since the Niners signed potential Pro Bowler Michael Crabtree, but righting the ship at home tonight is going to be priority one. Will Singletary get embarrassed in his first game against the franchise he won a Super Bowl with?

San Francisco made the right call inserting Alex Smith in to the starting lineup. Smith has averaged 230.0 yards per game while piling up 6 touchdowns and five picks. He’s certainly increased the production of Frank Gore, if for the lone reason that he can launch the deep ball. The Niners are 5-2-1 ATS overall, but have crumbled in a four-game losing streak capped by a  27-34 loss to the Titans last weekend. Having said that, I wish someone would share that information with selfish head case Allen Iverson, a guy that has never seemed to learn that the game of basketball is not all about personal statistics and more of a team game that one man, no matter how great, cannot win all by himself.

Even after playing in the league for 13 seasons, Iverson, now 34-years-old, just doesn’t want to grow up. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's Battle with Cancer

With the NBA season just underway and the Lakers out of the gate in fantastic form, you would expect the news to be all good coming from Lala land. But a dark cloud has fallen over the organization as it has just been released that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has cancer, a rare form of leukemia to be exact.

The all-time leading scorer kept it a secret from most people, only informing a few people when he was diagnosed last December.

The rare form of cancer is called chronic myeloid leukemia, a cancer of the blood and bone marrow that produces cancerous cells.

Abdul-Jabbar’s disease appears to be manageable, and although his doctor didn't give him any guarantees, he apparently informed him "You have a very good chance to live your life out and not have to make any drastic changes to your lifestyle."
Kareem is taking pills for the disease and has since become a spokesman for the Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis, which makes a drug that treats the illness.

Larry Johson Released by the Cheifs

It’s the end of a very successful and very troubled career for Larry Johnson with the Kansas City Chiefs as they have released their star running back. Kolby Smith and Jamaal Charles will share carries for the rest of the season for the Chiefs, who hadn’t gotten much out of the 30 year old RB this season as Johnson had zero touchdowns and just 358-yards on the ground

As former first overall draft choice in 2003, Johnson came out of Penn State and notched back-to-back seasons of 1700+ yards and 37 touchdowns in 2005 and 2006.

You can assure that it wasn’t his offensive shortcomings this year that lead to the release; it was his off field incidents that became too much for The Chiefs brass to handle. Just 75-yards short of breaking Priest Holmes’ all time Chiefs record as the franchises leading rusher, Larry’s name will always remain just that close, and so it should.

Priest Holmes stood for what’s good in the game. He was a model team-mate who worked harder than anyone to get where he did. Larry Johnson, on the other hand, was the loud mouth, me first type player that we begin to hate as fans because he just doesn’t care about what’s really matters in the game.
His agent tried to paint Johnson with a heart as he released this statement on Larry’s behalf, "A part of him is excited and a part of him is very regretful," Peter Schaffer told The Associated Press. "There's a lot of feelings going on right now. It's analogous to breaking up with a gir... [More]

Is there any other game I could care less about? Ok, maybe Kansas-Jacksonville, but this game is a stinker! Seattle is getting a huge line to cover against a Lions team that couldn’t even get past St. Louis last week. The Lions are, however are 6-3 ATS in their last 9 road games because the oddsmakers insist on leveraging huge betting spreads against them. I don’t blame them, but Seattle isn’t exactly a money maker in the betting market.

Matt Hasselbeck’s return was supposed to be a healing factor for the woeful Seahawks, but even Matt can’t get this team turned around. They’re 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall and just 2-5 SU this season. With just 19.3 points per game, I wonder if T.J. Houshmandzadeh regrets signing in Seattle?
