Game-day: 8/11/2009
First-pitch: 10:10 pm EST
The Tampa Bay Rays travel to L.A. to take on the streaking Angels who have been about as good as any team in MLB since the all-star break. The Angels are coming off of a split against the rival Texas Rangers and will look to win two in a row when they send pitcher Ervin Santana to the mound. Santana has had a terrible 2009 by his standards with a 4 and 6 record, a 7.20 ERA and a 1.70 WHIP.
The Rays counter Santana with pitcher David Price. Price has been better than Santana but not by much. His ERA of 4.91 and WHIP of 1.58 has led to a 5 and 4 record.
Here is the BetUS online sportsbook betting line for this game.
Tampa Bay RaysDavid Price – L -1 ½ +130 -125 O 10 -115 Los Angeles AngelsErvin Santana – R +1 ½ -150 +105 U 10 -105 Here are a few online betting trends for this game.
The Tampa Bay Rays are 4 and 1 in David Price’s last 5 starts. The Over is 5 and 0 in the Tampa Bay Rays last 5 games overall. The Los Angeles Angels are 1 and 4 in Ervin Santana’s last 5 starts at home. The Over is 6 and 1 in the L.A. Angels last 7 games versus a left-handed starter. The odds point to both Santana and Price giving up a lot of runs and I’m not going to go against that. Even though I believe Santana could still turn things around, I don’t believe he will in this game.
Santana has won 4 out of 5 games overall but he’s given up runs. His teammates are terrific at protecting him with the ability to score a lot of runs themselves. In Santana’s last four games the scores have been 8 to 5, 1 to 10, 11 to 5 and 9 to 5.
The Angels should get to David Price, but Santana will give up his runs as well. Because of that, the best bet on this game is the over.
I’ll bet that the BetUS Total goes over 10 at -115 in this game.
