Talk about joining some prestigious company! Well, technically, Tim Lincecum is in a league of his own. He has become the first MLB pitcher to win the Cy Young award in his first two full seasons in the big leagues.

Although his number were impressive this year, (15-7, 2.48 ERA, 261 strikeouts), the win came by the slimmest of margins. It was actually one of the closest Cy Young votes ever.

The way the balloting works is that you receive five points for a first-place vote, three for a second-place vote and one for a third-place nod. Lincecum only beat fellow St. Louis Cardinal teammates Christ Carpenter and Adam Wainwright by 6 and 10 points respectively. Tim, or Cy as he should not be called, tallied 100 points which included 11 first-place votes while Chris Carpenter received nine first-place votes and 94 points total and Adam Wainwright came in at a close third with 12 first-place votes for a 90 point total.

Although it wasn’t the closest race in history, that honor went to Philadelphia reliever Steve Bedrosian in1987 who edged Chicago's Rick Sutcliffe by the narrowest of margins, 57-55, it was still a very competitive decision, one that Lincecum is no doubt excited about.

“I almost jumped out of my window," Lincecum said, describing his reaction upon receiving the news. "Maybe not [literally], but I had to go to the window to take the call."

Below is the full list of candidates and their voting results:
