So who is favored to win the Heisman going into a crucial Week 13 war field. The guy that the big quarterbacks in the league have to be scared of is Iowa Junior Shonn Greene. He’s the most consistent running-back threat in the entire country, despite the headline-worthy performances of guys like Donald Brown and Knowshon Moreno from Georgia. Is he good enough to crack the ranks of the talent ahead of him?
Graham Harrell (QB) – Texas Tech Raiders
It’s been quite a season for the senior from Texas Tech. Hurling fire bombs through the Texas skies has propelled this strong-armed surgeon to the top of the Heisman candidate list. With 4,077 yards and 36 touchdowns, with only five picks, Harrell is leading the way. The biggest game of this coming weekend is undoubtedly between Harrell and Bradford. If he can slice apart the Sooners like he diced up the Longhorns, this race is over.
Next Game: Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma -6
Michael Crabtree (WR) – Texas Tech Raiders
The last receiver to take home the Heisman award was Desmond Howard in 1991. Can Crabtree become the first to win in a span of 18 years? While his numbers are out of this world, and his talent is certainly undeniable, the best Crabtree can do for himself is improve his draft stock. Winning the Heisman when Harrell is throwing him the ball, and Bradford is a clear #2 is a longshot for this guy.
Next Game: Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma -6
Sam Bradford (QB) – Oklahoma Sooners
He’s lost to Texas, posted the second-best numbers in the country and has been the single mainstay in this race all season. Considering that he’s already lost to the Longhorns, despite an enormous effort, it’s going to take more than his usually impressive numbers to stay competitive in this race – he’s going to need the win.
Next Game: Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma -6
Shonn Greene (RB) – Iowa Hawkeyes
When you run for at least 100 yards in every single game this weekend, racking up 15 rushing touchdowns along the way, you get noticed. Period.
Next Game: Iowa -6 vs. Minnesota
Tim Tebow (QB) – Florida Gators
Tebow has started rushing more and more in the later weeks of the season. The results speak for themselves. With 11 rushing touchdowns, combined with 19 passing touchdowns, Tebow is gaining mountains of steam in the Heisman Race. The defending Heisman King has stormed in the second half of the season, which is unfortunately the main problem. The Gators’ early struggles this season make Tebow a veritable long shot to win…unless they somehow get in to the BCS Championship game. That’s a huge if at this stage in the season.
Next Game: Citadel vs. Florida
