Arguably the nation’s biggest rivalry returns this week, although it has lost some of its luster this year when the Michigan Wolverines (3-8 SU, 2-9 ATS) travel to Columbus to take on the hated Ohio State Buckeyes (9-2 SU, 4-6 ATS).
Rich Rodriguez’s boys from Ann Arbor have had a dreadful NCAA football betting season this year and for the first time in 40 years will not finish the season with a winning record. Meanwhile, Jim Tressel’s Buckeyes are looking to make it five in a row over the Wolverines; head coach Jim Tressel has yet to lose in Ohio Stadium against hated Michigan.
Even though this game isn’t as important for either side as it’s been the past two seasons, Michigan HC Rich Rodriguez wants to get the win here and build on something for next season. His Wolverines have been tough to watch at times this season and Wolverines bettors have watched them post a woeful sports betting mark of 2-9 ATS, the third worst in the nation against the NCAA lines.
On senior day last Saturday, the Wolverines looked to go out with a win against Northwestern, a team that had beaten them in Ann Arbor only once since 1960. However, although they went into halftime with a 14-7 lead, they could not hold on and suffered the 21-14 college football wagering loss. The lone bright spot in the Wolverines defeat was junior RB Carlos Brown’s 115 yard day on only 23 carries against the Wildcats defense.
It looks like Ohio State may fail in its quest to win three straight Big 10 titles, but it at least got a small modicum of revenge last Saturday in the 30-20 NCAA gambling win in Champaign against Illinois. Super freshman QB Terrelle Pryor continues to improve. In the game, he completed 60% of his passes for 49 yards and a touchdown while carrying the ball 13 times for 110 yards and another score. Buckeye bettors also benefitted from RB Beanie Wells putting up yet another solid game, carrying the ball 24 times for 143 yards and a touchdown in the Buckeye victory.
The Buckeyes offensive prowess of late has been what Buckeyes fans have needed to see after uncharacteristically only scoring 30 points or more in two of their first seven games. After starting the year playing five of their first six games under the ‘total’ by the college football odds, the Buckeyes have now played three of their last four over the total.
NCAAF betting trends to note for this game include that Michigan is 11-5 ATS in its last 16 road games against a team with a winning home record, the Buckeyes are 21-8 ATS over their last 29 Big 10 conference games for NCAA gamblers, and the ‘over’ has hit in four of the last five head-to-head meetings.
BetUS Sportsbook has the Buckeyes set as a 20.5-point favorite in this game by the NCAA football gambling odds with a ‘total’ of 44.
