Each and every NFL season, there is at least one or two ‘surprise’ teams in the league that catch everyone off guard, including longtime NFL handicappers and analysts as well as the die-hard fans of these respective teams, by exceeding all expectations.
In 2007, the Cleveland Browns were the one team that seemingly came out of nowhere to record an impressive 10-6 record despite the fact that most NFL experts predicted the Browns to fail miserably.
Now, as the 2008 NFL regular season quickly approaches, BetUS NFL online sports wagering enthusiasts that are gearing up for another wagering season, want to know which team or teams could surprise in 2008 while putting more money in NFL bettors’ respective bankrolls.
Here is a quick look at several NFL teams that I think BetUS NFL online bettors had better keep a close eye on throughout the course of the 2008 NFL regular season.
I thought the loss of Hall of Fame head coach Joe Gibbs could really set the Washington Redskins, (9-7 SU, 7-7-2 ATS in 2007), back in 2008, but I’m starting to think that first-time head coach Jim Zorn is exactly what the doctor ordered for this franchise.
Not only have the Redskins won all three of their preseason games to date, but the creative Zorn has implemented his own brand of the West Coast offense and it could be just a matter of time before the Skins take off.
The Arizona Cardinals, (8-8 SU, 9-7 ATS in 2007), are another team that I think could surprise online bettors in 2008 - not to mention their opponents – as head coach Ken Whisenhunt continues to mold this team into an NFC version of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Whisenhunt’s former longtime employer. After splitting two preseason games so far, I’m beginning to get back to my former feelings that quarterback Matt Leinart was an immense steal for the Cardinals at No. 10 two years ago. If the Cardinals can improve along both front lines, they could really take off in 2008, particularly in the weak NFC West.
I said this same thing prior to the start of last season, but I genuinely believe the Denver Broncos, (7-9 SU, 5-11 ATS in 2007) could exceed expectations in 2008 – if quarterback Jay Cutler continues improving after a mediocre 2007 season that was in large part, to blame on his formerly undiagnosed diabetic condition. With his medical ailment in check, Cutler and the Broncos could surprise in a big way in 2008 if everything goes according to head coach Mike Shanahan’s plans.
While I think the Oakland Raiders, (4-12 SU, 6-10 ATS in 2007) will have to live with some serious growing pains from young quarterback Jamarcus Russell, this team has a much better defense than most people know and a rushing attack I think could be downright spectacular at some point in 2008. While this team is bound to win more games in 2008, the Raiders could be looking at a .500 season even if most people don’t see it.
