Week 4, the final week of NFL preseason action, is a big one, morally, for the Carolina Panthers. They still haven’t managed a win this preseason and will be in tough trying to get that first W on the board as they host the Pittsburgh Steelers at 8 PM ET.
The Panthers haven’t been kind to their backers so far, going 0-3 ATS after killing their backers in the playoff collapse from last year.
Despite all the signs pointing the other way, the public money is heading in for the Panthers on this one. The reason being, the Panthers really need a win to boost morale or they risk going into the regular season already behind the 8-ball.
Here is the betting line for this game:
Carolina Panthers -190 (-3 ½) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers +160 (+3 ½)Over/Under 34
Mike Tomlin is a fierce competitor and will want to have his Super Bowl champion squad finishing the preseason on the right foot so they can open the season ready to defend.
Charlie Batch is expected to take the majority of the snaps in this game against Carolina. Another guy that you may want to add to your
fantasy football team is the Steelers backup running back, Rashard Mendenhall. He is having a steller preseason and will get the majority of the handoffs in this one.
The Panthers are just hoping to mend the holes and build any kind of momentum they can before the games start counting. It hasn’t been all Carolina’s fault as they have been ravaged by injuries in the preseason but regardless, they just haven’t played hard enough to earn a victory and that has to worry John Fox.
Expect Carolina’s head coach to play some of his starters and expect those starters to play HARD. Gaining momentum isn’t easy, just think about pulling a bus, but when that bus gets moving, look out!
The Pick: Carolina Panther SU (-190)
