Damon Durante, your resident Lord of Loudmouth, is back to yell at you from your own desktop screens in BetCenter, Episode 4. This week, Damon D breaks down everything you need to ingest in to your brain for the upcoming NFL weekend, while also handing out a brand new award. Look out, ladies and gentlemen, because Damon has some watermelons to toss around:
http://video.betus.com/betcenter/betcenter-season-1-episode-4.htmlThe inaugural Watermelon to your Face Award is bestowed upon Damon’s favorite new players that I couldn’t care less about. You’ll have to hit the link above to see who he dishes it out too, but don’t be surprised since he’s a freaking Patriots fan.
Damon’s done a great job tutoring the general public on the basic principles of sports betting while he sits on BetCenter’s infamous sports couch, but this week he ups the ante and advances you in to the territory of teaser bets.
If you take the line the house gives you, you’re automatically taking the standard juice of around -110, meaning you’re basically betting $11 to win $10 (10% juice). That’s a standard commission no matter where you throw your money around, and the reason why people watch the line all week to see if it’s dropping, rising or moving sideways.
But what happens when you miss the chance to take the sports betting line where you want it? If you’ve been in this game for a few years, you can probably tell more stories about you losing by a measly half-point more times than you can count on your eight fingers and two stubby thumbs. That’s why the sportsbook has a feature that allows you to buy points.
These are simply called “teasers” because you can tease the spread to the preferred line of your choosing. To do so, you have to sacrifice a bit more commission to the house increasing the amount you risk, but increasing your chances of winning the bet as well. It’s a give-and-take scenario; the sportsbook will give you points at your discretion, but the value of your bet is affected in due course.
Inversely, you can do something called a “pleaser” bet. Let’s say that you’re looking at the Texans -3.0 against the Giants, and you firmly believe that Schaub and the boys can trounce them by way more. How much is a spread of -5.5 or even -7.5 going to payout? You can find out by increasing the spread, jacking up your payout and screwing around with the oddsmakers like a hero.
It’s sports betting like never before – your way.
As always, Damon is ready to grab you by the ears and fill your skull with knowledge with his own NFL picks this weekend. Check out what Damon has to say about the Oakland Raiders hosting the San Diego Chargers (or as him and I routinely refer to them: the Whales Vagina Chargers).
