The pursuit of perfection continues on Sunday afternoon for the Tennessee Titans (9-0, 8-1 ATS) when they head down to Jacksonville Municipal Stadium to do battle with the Jacksonville Jaguars (4-5, 3-6 ATS). BetUS Sportsbook will have all of the action for sports betting fans until the game kicks off at 4:15 on CBS.
The Titans won the first match-up between these teams earlier this season, knocking off the Jags 17-10 in Nashville. The Titans were disrespected that day, as they were tabbed as three-point home underdogs. It was the debut of RB Chris Johnson, who turned heads by recording 127 total yards and a touchdown in the victory. The ‘D’ recorded a whopping seven sacks and two interceptions, and a similar effort on Sunday will keep the ’72 Dolphins waiting another week to pop the champagne.
Many NFL betting experts thought that the undefeated season would end in the “Windy City,” but the Titans would have none of it, knocking off the Bears 21-14 and successfully covering the spread as three-point road favorites. It was a banner day for QB Kerry Collins, who completed 30-of-41 passes for 289 yards and two scores. That was the first multi-touchdown game for the former Penn State quarterback since the final game of the 2005 season. Collins, then a Raider, threw for 331 yards, the last time that he threw for more than 285 yards in a game.
However, the rushing attack was dismal against the Bears, as LenDale White and Chris Johnson only combined for 24 carries for 22 yards. TE Bo Scaife busted onto the scene, recording ten catches for 78 yards and a touchdown.
Coming off of an embarrassing loss in Cincinnati two weeks ago, HC Jack Del Rio called out his Jags for a better effort in the “Motor City.” He got a dominant performance, as his Jaguars rolled all over Detroit 38-14. The Jacksonville rushing game looked like the unit that football bettors have come to know and love, as Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor combined for 150 rushing yards. Jones-Drew rushed for three touchdowns for the first time in his career.
QB David Garrard was efficient, completing 18-of-27 passes for 238 yards and two scores. The cover snapped a string of two straight defeats and four out of five losses for Jags bettors. For a team that had playoff aspirations at the start of the year, Jacksonville needs to get on its horse in a hurry to run down the Colts, Jets, Patriots, Dolphins, and Ravens in the crowded AFC.
Oddsmakers have the visiting Titans as 3-point favorites in this critical AFC South match-up. The ‘total’ has been set at 39.5.
Even though both of these teams play hard-nosed defense, consider adding the ‘over’ to your NFL betting card this weekend. Out of Jacksonville’s L/31 games, the ‘over’ has gone an astounding 20-8-3. Five of the L/7 meetings between these teams have eclipsed the predetermined number.
