Cornell-UK analysis: "This ain't no spelling bee"

Everyone's on Cornell, it seems.  Has this bandwagon gotten really full, really quick or what?

Just wondering how many Cornell players will be in the NBA next season, cause at least 3 Kentucky players will be.

Cornell may keep this game close for a while, but in the end, athleticism will easily win out.  Kentucky isn't slow, methodical Temple or Wisconsin.  For a little perspective, Temple ranked 255th in PPG this season at 65.5 per game in the regular season. Wisconsin ranked slightly better at 207th, averaging 67.5.

Kentucky was 18th at 79 PPG.

Simply put, there is nobody on Cornell that can match up with the speed and athleticism Kentucky presents.

At a press Conference today a reporter asked DeMarcus Cousins of Kentucky what it was going to be like to be on the court with a bunch of smart kids from an Ivy League School.

His response?  "This aint no spelling bee."

You can bandwagon jump and go with the herd here if you like...  or recognize that the public is allowing Vegas to give you a complete gift here.

Kentucky by 15+ when it's all said and done.

CORNELL has 2 players who are NBA Prospects....Jeff Foote 7'0" 265lbs and Ryan Wittman 6'7" 215lbs.

Ryan Wittman will be the best shooter on the floor tonight, and any night for that matter.

God I hope Cornell wins SU to send the roaches back to their cracks.  Kentucky is very talented, but very young.

I like Big Red, been riding them small up to now, no use gettin' OFF the bandwagon just yet imo. KY is athletic, but young, and Cornell is fraught with Seniors who won't panic if they get down a few buckets and they will keep the pedal to the metal if they get up a few. I think Cornell is the best of the "mid-majors" or whatever that's left now, and while the Wildcats are awesome, I can't in good conscience just pencil in a 15pt win, Cornell will not quit tonight, they present some size problems for KY inside and have arguably the best shooter, as Bots27 mentioned above.

When the dust clears, I believe Kentucky will win a very close one, for the record... GL to all

Foote will get a good look at by the NBA.

When you're 7' with skills, you get a shot.

Honestly, I don't expect Cornell to win or even keep it close, unless their shots are falling like crazy.

But I still have Cornell +9.5 simply because I want to go crazy rootin' for them.

BonkNYC; are you

serious?  Part of playing basketball is

being able to make good decisions.  I

think those guys from Cornell will make better decisions than KU players.  You and the public think

this will be a cake walk for Kentucky

but you will be mistaken today…

Getting tired of you're tired being treated like red-headed step children on the hardwood, Caj?

LOL.

So, maybe you can explain to me how come the Ivy league hasn't exactly racked up NCAA titles...  or even wins, for that matter?

Smarts definitely play a factor in ALL sports, IF the talent is the physical talent is equal.

It's not even remotely even, player for player, in this match up.  Hey, I may be wrong....  wouldn't be the first time.  I guess we'll see.

Cornell / Kentucky-OVER 146
Cornell will

keep up with Kentucky's high powered offense. Coach

C will have Kentucky focused as he knows Cornell can put it in from

anywhere. I look for both teams to score in the 80's here. Going OVER in

this one. Just my opinion.

I just know Kentucky has a habit of letting teams hang around too long.  I am an SEC fan and have not been sold on them like many.  They are good, but not dominant in my opinion.

Did Cornell magically discover some talent come tournament time that has made them so awesome? Is this smart, experienced, talented team not the same one that dropped the ball at Penn?

Anything can happen but experience doesn't trump talent with a shake of the magic wand. UK will win but there's absolutely no way to guarrantee that they cover.

PoorBlindMan says:

But not during the tournament. They've gotten out ahead and kept the pedal to the floor. The coach knows that was an issue and he continues riding them until the game is absolutely out of question.

dont base too much on what they did to ETSU and WAKE...imo, wake shouldnt have even been in the field, much less a 9 seed

PBM.....  I was beginning to think I was the only person who saw the Wake Forest annihilation, not to mention the 29 point win over SWEET SIXTEEN team Tennessee in the SEC tourney (I remember because I was on the Vols in that disaster.)

Hey, everyone it entitled to their opinion, I just think this is a 15-20 point Kentucky win.

I tend to agree. the line seems real attractive to bet Kentucky
too tempting. I will take Kentucky ML here and pay to play

You and the public think this will be a cake walk for Kentucky but you will be mistaken today…

first of all show me the stat that has the public "all over" kentucky.  top 5 covers consensus' are syracuse, kansas state, duke (yes tomorrow i know) app state and ohio state (tomorrow again).  osu is at 56%, so kentucky is below 56%.  kentucky has played much better/harder now thats its do or die.  no one knows what is going to happen but seriously get your facts straight instead of speaking out of you a$$

Cousins response is a classic.  Typifies what CCB has become.  AIN'T no spelling bee.  I know you don't have to be a genius but you still have to play fundamentally smart.  Spelling shouldn't be a criteria for that but would be nice when some of the NCAA "stars" at least tried to show that they're learning more than just how to play a zone defense.  A great opportunity for these young men is wasted much of the time and Norm Roberts may not have a job but I bet his guys would have said ISN'T.  Shame on Calapari.  BOL on the play.
