How many "This Game is Fixed" posts do I have to endure?

My only comment to this fixing bullshit is...just imagine how many NBA players have come and gone in the league.  The fortunate and talented retire, but a majority of players get forced out because of injury and performance.  I do not mean to cause any offense to the IQ level of the average NBA player, but how easy would it be for any disgruntled player to come out and expose a corrupt organization and any/all "Fixing" that occurs daily in the NBA?  It never happens for a reason.  These games are hard fought in the trenches and when the shit hits the fan, and momentum takes over, it seems mind-boggling for a lackluster team that is against the ropes to breakthrough, but it is a reality in any sport.

If you choose to partake in the sordid game of gambling meant for filthy little animals, then take your lumps and realize the human factor in these contests.  If you read between the lines you realize that long-term sports' wagering is a losing battle, but you are able to keep your head above water for longer periods of time then relish the wins as the satisfaction of the victories, depending on how sick you are, can make up for those unexplainable and painful losses.

I am a big fan of this board but the people that come in here Green, and with unrealistic expectations on how Sports Handicapping should go down, need to mature and digest the reality of this hobby.  Quick gains are good in concept, but this is a grind that takes smarts, patience, money management, and a fortitude to deflect unexplicable lapses in team play and bullshit calls that ultimately lead to losses.

The strong survive and the weak bitch about calls that happened 3 days ago.

Let's cash in this second half of the NBA season and get to the MLB which the aficionados know is Money in the Bank when the season gets about 3 weeks-in.

I am happy to see that there are others here who agree.  Unfortunately, I do not think it will be a long period of time(like tonight), before some JackAss is on the board is crying about "The Fix" being on a game that he just lost his 401k.

Brock-

We'll hear it tonight in regards to Chicago/Washington or Atlanta/Utah.  A lot of people are eating Chicago up at -2 and I wouldn't be surprised to see Washington take it straight up.

Once again, thanks for the excellent post.

There is a lot of talk about that Jazz/Hawks game today a la PizzaBoy.  I look forward to the accusation.

as many as the number of games that are fixed.  if they would at least not make it so obvious, then the volume of fixing posts would decline.

Do you understand the reality of how difficult it would actually be to fix a game?

redbook1 says:
02/22/10 02:27PM
it is the easiest thing in the world.

I believe more than one player needs to be in on any fix..
GamzOver says:

Anywhere there is Big Money there will be corruption.
PS150 says:

Did I just say fix?..Ooops, don't believe in that..LOL
redbook1 says:

the players need not be involved at all.

I've never heard a NBA Player cry FIXXED.  The Talent level in the NBA and NFL is so huge, that any team can win when they are Hot on their game.

Got you Red..Maybe the players aren't fixing but the refs might be..

Amen...I bet and lose on basketball a lot but I have had the good fortune to have been talked to by people who've played. The fact is that on a team level there is a lot of failure in sports and athletes on a pro level measure differences in thousandths of seconds. One night the millisecond is on your side but other nights the other guy has it.

You can't stop athletes 100% of the time without killing them. That's part of the definition of athleticism. Athletes find ways to succeed when most expect them to fail. They may also fail when most exct them to succeed.

And TV??? most TV representation of events that involves angles may be up to 15% inaccurate. Why? because transistors need time switch on and off. High definition  TV is better but do not believe it is perfect. Even referees standing right their close to plays can be proven to have misinterpreted what they have seen with no malice involved.

So please gamblers: don't waste valuable space, time and emotions whining about fixes...just stop betting basketball.

NIL

Nil, so Donaghy was a "rogue" ref?
TSG says:

Agreed...I don't whine about games being fixed everytime I lose a big bet, but if you don't think there's some fixing going on in sports at some level than you're being naive.

Sports is a business and just like insider trading goes on in the stock market, there's corruption in sports.

That being said, I'm sure 99.9% of the time we hear all this whining on Covers about games being fixed, it is not true.

interesting you should only mention basketball.  why not stop betting ALL sports?  all sports have athletes and tv and transistors and referees.

all those denying fixes--in ALL sports--were the same ones who denied steroid use despite all the evidence to the contrary (perhaps in part due to their homoerotic fascination with sosa and mcgwire?).

their are none so blind as those who refuse to see.

GamzOver says:

Yep, TSG i don't think it happens nearly as often as some posters on Covers say it does. But anybody that says it doesn't happen at all is naive. Many of the people crying fixed every frickn' night are probably betting over their heads.

If players were making 80k a year, yes I would believe it would happen. However, if you are making upwards to a million a year, how much would you have to pay a player to throw a game and get a bet down to more than cover you risk and where would you bet it ?
Sounds like the 9/11 guys to me.

People whining about that Utah game is the funniest

Portland got almost every borderline call and the refs blew the whistle everytime Roy touched the ball

If that was a "fixed" game.....the fixers lost

Ever read the Donaghy excerpts.  Wouldn't be hard at all.

I believe that the REAL issue in betting the NBA is wondering 'when' players are going to give an effort. It's just a completely different animal than college ball... in that respect.

A GREAT EXAMPLE was the Bobcat / Clipper game last night. It was OBVIOUS to ANYONE watching that game Stephen Jackson was not 'physically' ready to play.... 'CAUSE he was dealing with a hangover having partied too hard with 'buddy' Baron Davis the previous night. HOW are we supposed to HANDICAP factors like that ? ESPECIALLY in this case, when the Bobcats are fighting for a playoff spot (with no room for error).

If the NBA had more integrity and respect for the game amongst its players, we could JUST HANDICAP LEGITIMATE FACTORS.

If you think that games are fixed you shouldn't be betting.

And if you continue to wager on games that are "fixed" I only

hope you're on the right side so we cann all read about your

great hadicapping skills.

I don't believe NBA officials are fixing games, but their terrible calls and favoritism to the home team and certain players (D-Wade especially) often makes the games hard to watch. I imagine it is especially frustrating to see call after call after call go to D-Wade, when you have money on the other team. This is why I have a love-hate relationship with the NBA; love the game; hate the absolute terrible officiating. The worst is when officials "anticipate" that a foul is going to occur and blow the whistle just as the defensive player makes a clean block; steal; etc.
