The Johnson's NBA Finals Discussion

First of all, I would like to apologize for some of the outbursts I had during the game tonight.  The reason behind it is that basketball has long been my favorite sport.  The Celtics have always been my favorite team.  There are very few things that irritate me more than watching a game I love decided by middle aged white guys in sweatpants with whistles.  I have reffed basketball quite a bit in the past, know the rules inside and out, and understand very well that the best compliment a ref can possibly receive is when someone says...."I didn't even realize you were on the court".  So far in the playoffs, there have been very few instances of this  happening.

The NBA got EXACTLY what they wanted for the NBA Finals.  This is the equivalent of having a Cubs/Red Sox World Series in 2004.  It's East vs. West.  It's 14 championships vs. 16 championships.  Kobe vs. the New Big Three.  Magic vs. Bird.  Millions of other analogies can go in there as well.  They were the two best teams during the regular season, and there is nobody else that deserves to be there more than these two great teams.

Since the NBA referees/officials/big wigs probably frequent these forums quite often based on their display so far this post-season, I will say this loud and clear.

PLEASE LET THE PLAYERS DECIDE THE OUTCOME OF THE GAMES!  CALL THE GREAT GAME OF BASKETBALL THE WAY IT WAS MEANT TO BE CALLED.  DON'T SUCKLE KOBE'S TEET BECAUSE HE IS THE "NEXT JORDAN"....DON'T ALLOW GUYS TO FLOP AROUND AND WHINE AND COMPLAIN.  BRING IT BACK TO THE 80'S AND LET THE GUYS IN THE JERSEYS LEAVE IT OUT ON THE COURT AND SEE WHO THE BETTER TEAM IS.

You all know by now I am a huge Celtics fan.  I've bled with them for my entire life.  I am 24 years old, and have no recollection of their glory days.  The first memory of the Celtics I have is the late stages of Larry Legend in the playoffs.  Diving after the loose ball vs. the Pacers and slamming his head into the floor.  And sadly losing that final game vs. the Cavs.  Since then it has been a constant shit-storm.  Len Bias, Reggie Lewis passing away.  The drafting of can't-miss propects Eric Montross, Eric Williams, Acie Earl...the disgusting Rick Pitino era of giving up on star players before they could even develop (Billups, Joe Johnson)...followed by the Pierce/Toine days and losing to the Nets in the Eastern Conference Finals.

This year it all changed obviously thanks to the pure gamble by Danny Ainge giving up 29 players under the age of 25 who will become future all-stars in order to put together one glorious run at a title.  Now it all comes down to one series against none other than the Lakers.

Win or lose, it has been a memorable experience, and all I can ask for is that David Stern and his cronies allow the players to decide the games for a change.  The ratings will be there.  This will be the highest rated Finals in a long long time.  You don't need to fix shit now.  If the Lakers win, it will not surprise me as they are a beast of a team right now, and Kobe is just a cold-blooded killer.  But that won't stop me from bleeding Celtic green for a few more weeks!!

I look forward to it all...I've been looking forward to this my entire life!!

johnson, great hit, you were 100% right to be outraged at the Zebras. The Celtics overcame all that BS and came out on top. props to them and their backers.

Great write up Johnson.  I think the Celtics will edge the Lakers in the series due to the homecourt advantage.  The refs I would have to say won't determine the outcome of this series, because they will be incapable of blowing that many calls.  This will be a matchup that no doubt will be decided in Game 6 or probably Game 7.  The player matchups seem to all favor the Celtics, other than whoever guards Kobe.  This will be a great series win for the Celtics and a huge relief for Boston fans, whose hearts were broken by the New York Giants this past Super Bowl.

Even the family said I need to calm it down a bit...I say fuck off!!  Yeah I was dropping quite a few f-bombs during that stretch of bad calls...but hey, they were crappy calls and I just can't sit back and enjoy a game when stuff like that is going on.

Juice....as a Mavs fan, I can almost relate.  Being sucky for many years and then finally getting the big players.  Hopefully this doesn't turn into the 2006 Finals when D-Wade was the pet of the refs (KOBE).

Just hoping for a solid, well-played series.  If the Lakers come out and sweep the C's off the court with no additional help from the refs, than I can sit back and say they were the better team.
