If the Celtics trade Rondo

It will be the worst decision in Danny Ainge's career.  He is a future all-star at the point guard position and showed this season that he has the ability to completely take over a game.  You can honestly say he is one of the best five point guards in the game today just about.

The bigger question is....

WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU GONNA GET TO REPLACE HIM?

I agree.  Ainge is looking like the "bad guy" but clearly that would have been a great move for Boston.

Agreed. No doubt about it. Only a Boston fan would say this is a bad trade, but I dont blame them for wanting to keep Rondo around. But the C's would be tremendous if this trade occurred.

Why would you not want this trade if your a boston fan? Rip, prince and stuckey are all fairly young and allen isnt. Yeah rondo is young and solid but you have to give up quality to get it. I would run the point with that lineup

i think all us celtics fans at this point have a deep attachment to rondo.  I agree the trade is not bad.  I like stuckey and rip and prince but the latter two both have their best days behind them.  It would just suck to see rondo on another team because he will be one of the best point guards in the league for the next 10 years.  Stuckey is unproven.  Rondo does all the intangibles you could want and the kid is so competetive.  I think whichever route the celtics go they have a good shot at another championship.  But if they get rid of allen they will have to find another shooter who can put up 20 a night.  I say drug ray allen into signing a one year contract so you can get yourself another ring.

Why worry about the future when you can give yourself a better chance to win now?  There is not much difference between Stucky and Rondo.  Whether Rondo becomes a better pro in the future IDK, but that shouldn't even matter.  The nucleus of this team...Garnet (33) and Pierce (31)...is not getting any younger and they need to win now and this trade would make them a much better team.

Boston is not thinking about the future, not when your best player is KG. His window is closing. The Celtics are trying to win now.

Rondo is better than Stuckey.  He is proven, Stuckey isn't.

So why would you trade away the future to win now?  Because you have a BETTER PLAYER NOW!!

Rip Hamilton IMO is the same as Ray Allen in most regards except for ONE MAJOR point....Rip doesn't hit the HUGE shots that Ray Ray does.  You don't trade away your end of the game sharpshooter.

Tayshaun Prince is obv. the wild card in this deal, but IMO I wouldn't trade away a point guard that is proven and can give me 10 years minimum as an all-star caliber player for someone who hasn't shown that much talent.  I also don't trade away one of the greatest shooters of all-time.  I don't care how old he is.  He is one of the top 3 shooters in NBA history with Reggie Miller and Jerry West.  Prince is a solid player, and would fit in nicely, but wouldn't give them that much extra.  I would rather trade a Big Baby Davis for a true sixth man.

Is your argument there career 3pt%? Larry Bird over RAYRAY
CMJohnson1 says:

Larry Bird is a close 4th

You couldn't be more wrong about Rodney Stuckey...wake up and smell the coffee, this guy is a future star given the minutes.
jackjaffee says:
06/28/09 07:26PM
Why would the Pistons ever take this deal?  3 starters for 2 starters with little difference between Rip and Allen, with Allen being older.  So, you're talking Rondo for Prince and 50 Cent, which is a pretty uneven deal IMO.
LogansMichael says:

Get Nash to replace him..
Borat38 says:

Because good as Jesus is, he's expensive, and they're aware of his diminishing value because of age.  Ray's due $19.8 million next season, so's Pierce. Garnett is having $16.5 M.  If they don't clear out cap space, they'll be in the luxury tax bracket.

Nice as it is to win championships, the NBA is above all a business.

CalBear says:
06/30/09 01:28PM

I can't believe Ray is paid more than KG....over 3 mill more over a season

Borat38 says:
07/01/09 11:21AM

Well that's because the final year of KG's contract is substantially less than what he got this year ($24.75 M). Ray Allen got $18.39 M, which just shows that KG got into a deal that allowed him to cash out the maximum, yet take a pay cut in the last year of his contract to enable the team to sign better talent.  Ray's contract is merely an appreciating value contract, which pays more with each passing year.

Get a point guard who is MUCH older and plays NO defense to replace him?

Woall says:
07/01/09 07:01PM
rondo is a freak athlete, but there are few PG's from this year's draft I would rather have, and there will be a few more from next year's.  if they trade away Rondo they need to get their hands on one of these young PG's.
Woall says:

there are a few*

Boston would be crazy to trade Rondo.
jackjaffee says:
07/05/09 07:42PM
It's a tax a team has to pay if their salary paid to the players goes over the salary cap.  So if the cap is 65 million and the team salaries total 80 million, they have to pay a luxury tax of 15 million.  In these economic times I don't see too many owners who would enjoy paying the penalty.

hes garbage
ct1016 says:

He is a triple double point guard.....whose offense continues to get better....already a GREAT defender, that gets a lot of steals and pressures the other teams PG.....does think pass 1st (which most point guards may not think pass first) and can rebound the ball and push the ball on the break.

If I am a coach, I want that kinda player on my team, because if you have a dynamic front court and a nice/decent shooting guard then this kinda PG makes the Celtics d.a.n.g.e.r.o.u.s!

I think if they get Rasheed Wallace and KG is the KG of ole then the Celtics will be the team to beat next year.

ct1016 says:
07/05/09 10:29PM
Correction:  The C's now have Rasheed Wallace.....they need to stop shopping Rondo and keep him.

I am surprised that they do not realize that they have a NBA Finals MVP caliber player on their roster.

That performance that he put on in the playoffs (especially vs the Bulls) was an eye-opener of what he can do on the offensive side of the floor and we all know what kind of defender he already is.

3BallBomber says:

rondo? your crazy
CMJohnson1 says:
07/05/09 10:53PM
Celtics sign Wallace.  Not sure how to feel about the move.  He brings great energy...can extend the floor...gives us another big man...plays good defense.

He also is a dickhead who consistently leads the league in technicals and bitches about every call.  Plus...where is he going to play?  Back up to Perkins?  Starter?  6th man?  Pretty certain that he will come off the bench to relieve Perk and KG.

Like I said to begin with though...just don't trade Rondo and you will be fine.  They have the best team in basketball now because there are no holes.  The biggest hole last year was backup big man...and they filled it.

Rondo
Allen
Pierce
KG
Perkins

Wallace
Powe
Pruitt ( I feel he will step above Marbury )
SCALABRINE

I would like to see them get a bit deeper though, a couple more cheap vets will do.  If they can get Hill, OH BABY!!! that would be amazing.

Their bench which was a problem all season still looks very thin. We saw what a couple of injuries to their starters does to this team
ct1016 says:

Why would they trade their reserve big men to have a continued deficiency with reserve big men next year?

And if they trade their reserve big men what did they get in return?

Another reserve big men I would guess.

It is not in the C's best interest to trade a player and get worse....so even if they do trade a reserve, shouldn't they get something back in value....and if a player leaves doesn't that free them up to go and grab the 100 of players that are still on the NBA free agent market?

R Wallace did not cost the C's any significant amount of money and the C's should be able to choose which guy Powe or Big Baby that they want to keep and if the other chooses to leave, he was already upgraded/replaced by acquiring R Wallace.

Unlike Danny Ferry, Danny Ainge looks like he knows what he is doing.  He got the big three to the C's, now Rasheed Wallace and I think the right decison or decisions will be made with Powe and Big Baby or after or if they decide to leave the team.

IMO, the C's will be the team to beat next year.

CalBear says:

I like Boston in 2010 even before Wallace, but now after this pick up I definitely will place a future wager on them to win it next year.  Currently at 6-1, this has a lot more value than LA at 2-1 or Cleveland at 3-1.
CMJohnson1 says:

Absolutely...plus you have to consider the fact that not only are they getting A LOT healthier, they are also getting a more experienced and big-game proven Rondo.

Celtics this season will be that same team that whooped LA 2 seasons ago. I will not question KG's hunger to re-acquire that title that they lost to the team they PUMMELED. They did reasonably well without KG in the postseason considering he is the man that fuels Boston and now they get him back healthy (hopefully 100%) and they add a tough vet in Wallace who i know will control his emotions in order to get that next title.

I just hope they keep the team that won against LA as is and not trade Rondo or Ray Ray as they are a significant part of the team.
