Worst Fantasy Performance of the Year

I can’t get much worse than the stinkbomb turned in by Ryan Fitzpatrick of the Buffalo Bills this weekend.

In the 34-3 loss to the Patriots, his team trailed nearly the entire game, forcing him to continue to put the ball in the air and force the action. Unfortunately, his offensive line is terrible and four of his receivers are rookie undrafted free agents. The result is one of the worst stat lines of the season: 18-of-37 for 251 yards with three interceptions, two lost fumbles and no touchdowns.

Jake Delhomme had his epic collapse against Arizona in the playoffs a few years ago and there have been some games cut short due to injury – Jay Cutler played just a handful of snaps and lost a fumble to finish with minus-2 points in most leagues when he faced the Giants earlier this season.

But as far as recent results go, a quarterback who had a touchdown in 15 straight games delivers a 1-point performance during the championship week for most leagues.

Has there been a worst performance this season? What non-show screwed you the most this year?

Colorado Avalanche are Money in the Bank

It’s hard to find a more profitable team in the NHL this season than the Colorado Avalanche.
The Avs are 17-10-4 and in the thick of the Northwest Division race. The team has lost the second-most man games due to injury this season in the league (nearly 400), but has excelled thanks to a deep farm system that has been based upon dynamic skaters and aggressive, attacking forwards.
The team has 11 players with at least five goals this year, including five with at least 11. Rookie defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk has looked like a young Brian Leetch, as his five goals and 12 assists in just 20 games give him 17 points, the most among all freshman blue-liners. Overall, the team has scored 112 goals, the second-most in the league and a staggering number considering the number of injuries to the team this season.

Jump on board the Avs, and do the Bang Bang dance all the way to the cashier’s window.

Are the Avalanche for real? Will they only get better as they get healthy?... [More]

NFL Week 14 MVP? Try Miami's Brandon Fields

So just who is this guy? Brandon Fields a gas station attendant in North Jersey or a blackjack dealer in Vegas?

Nope. Try the punter for the Miami Dolphins, who turned in easily the top performance of the season for a player at his position, helping his team pick up its fifth road win in six tries.

Fields, a fourth-year player out of Michigan State, boomed a stunning 10 punts for an average of 56.4 yards with a long of 69. He had an equally impressive net of 49.6 yards and perhaps most impressively managed to keep every attempt out of the end zone. Only one of his kicks went inside the Jets’ 20-yeard line, meaning his punts were continually from deep in his own territory and switched the field position game.

For the season, Fields entered the game with just 50 punts and is averaging 46.3 yards per boot – the sixth-best mark in the league – but was smacking the ball 10 yards better than that on Sunday.

How good was Fields’ performance? Was he the reason for the Jets winning? Was he better than DeSean Jackson?

Just how good are the Indiana Pacers?

It’s time that we stopped asking if the Pacers can make the playoffs, and start trying to figure out if they can win the Central Division.

The Pacers are 9-9 SU and 10-8 ATS this season, just a game behind first-place Chicago. The Pacers are 2-1 against their division, have yet to face the Bulls and still have a slew of games left against Milwaukee, Detroit and Cleveland in the Central.

The key for the team’s success is a plucky defense that is giving up just 97.6 points per game, a mental toughness on the road that has allowed the team to go 5-4 in opposing gyms, and the continued emergence of Danny Granger.

After a slow start to the season, Granger is averaging 21.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. On the road, he has broken the 30-point barrier three times, all wins.

Roy Hibbert (15.6 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 1.9 bpg) and Brandon Rush (11.8 ppg, 1.5 apg) also are both having career years.

No one thinks the Pacers will win the title. But can they win the Central?
