Go Away Derek Jeter

No one will debate that Derek Jeter is one of the greatest players of all-time.

Hell, he might actually be the greatest clutch and postseason hitter in the history of the game. But I swear to God, I don’t give a damn about him getting 3,000 hits. If he played in anywhere but New York, I wouldn’t get live cut-ins to his at-bats and about 1,000 DL updates and continual front page reminders on all of the big sports sites.

I understand it’s early July and the NBA and NFL are both being locked out. There isn’t horse racing or any good boxing to talk about.

This is all we have.

But why can’t we talk more about the women’s World Cup? What about the U-19 FIBA tournament going on overseas right now? Hell, I could go for some CFL chatter at this point.

Are you passed the Jeter love fest? What else is there to talk about?

From what i've seen so far it is nowhere near as bad the coverage we were forced to endure last season as A-Rod chased his 600th homer. At least Jeter has some semblance of humility and isn't anywhere near as big an asshole and egomaniac as A-Rod is.

By the way, good luck finding some women's World Cup chatter anywhere outside of a dyke bar.

According to Retrosheet,Jeter is not even the best shortstop in YANKEE history.Phil Rizzuto's career value is a tad higher.

The real stat for determining great players should be 1,000 extra base hits. There are 33 of them.

Currently, teams should swing their left fielder into left center and have the third basemen in on the grass whenever Jeter comes to bat.He cannot drive the ball to left anymore.

1) It's PAST, not PASSED

2) Womens soccer. Seriously?

3) Jeter played the game with class and humility, and was a superstar in the era of steroids. Everyone (if they're lucky) gets old. Give the guy a break and let him have his time.

Had Seton Hall's Craig Biggio played on the Yankees-and Jeter on the Astros-most people never would have heard of Jeter.A great example of right place, right time.

His hit tonight would not have happened if managers would stop genuflecting and start properly positioning their fielders.

If Jeter is a KC Royal, this does not happen. We could be talking NBA or NFL, but all the networks are all talked out about that. There's only so many "They're still negotiating" updates you can have......

We need to hear more about college football PRONTO!

Carey, your article is so wrong

1. Your first sentence is so inaccurate, "No one will debate that Derek Jeter is one of the greatest players of all-time". Really! Everyone debates Jeters greatness. Thats why many consider him overated.

2. Your idea that Jeter is only gettting attention because he plays in NY is way off. Any player going for 3,000 hits or any other major milestone is going to get attention.

Gurney, your comments might even be worse than Carey's.

1."The real stat for determining great players should be 1,000 extra base hits. There are 33 of them". Really! I guess your theory suggests only power hitters are great players. I guess players like Ichiro, Gwynn, Boggs Rose, Carew weren't great players.

2."Currently,teams should swing their left fielder into left center and have the third basemen in on the grass whenever Jeter comes to bat.He cannot drive the ball to left anymore".......Really! You wanna do a Jeter shift based on where he's hit the ball the last few days, Brilliant!.........and to say he cant drive the ball to left anymore is comical, because , guess what, in 17 years he hasnt drove the ball to left field. If you knew anything about him you would know he hits basically everything the other way.

3. If Jeter was an Astro and Biggio was a Yankee, I guarantee you the Yankees wouldnt have won 5 World Series.

JK, you are so right, I want this blog off the main page of covers. Derek is a winner, clutch hitter, MR NOVEMBER, and goes 5-5 with HR on 3,000 hit, ARE YOU KIDDING ME.

These haters and incompetent fans should lern about baseball history before spewing garabge. Derek's accomplishments in the steroid era is AMAZING, just got 3.026 tonight with 4th 5 hit game of his 16 yr career, WAIT 2 5 HIT GAMES, when he is done according to this blogger-LMAO

He is ALL STAR MVP, WS MVP SAME YR, great POST SEASON STATS, won WS titles as CAPTAIN AND LEADER.

WAIT, he did this under the most intense media scrutiny of any player b/c he's in NY, so BRAVO DEREK.

Go akl other players how they handled NY, WHITSON, RANDY, VASQUEZ, ETC..

DEREK JETER= HOF and ROLE MODEL, JUST OPEN YOUR EYES!!
