Port league should be fun this year I wonder if Braga will keep it up this year
Thanks my friends it was a very, very good Sunday but It could have have been a "full card" day if things went according to what's normal (and if you see the games) but there are always random factors in a game one can't control.Responding to your question Diamond, before the Superliga season started (let's say 2 weeks ago) I would say there was no way Braga would have a season like the previous one. Right now I'm not so sure. There are 3 main reasons why I had that opinion 2 weeks ago:1) they lost 5 top players (National team keeper Eduardo to Genova, defender Evaldo to Sporting, Hugo Viana and Filipe Oliveira) but were able to keep experienced Brasilian winger Alain (their main player IMO) and against all odds;2) last season Braga didn't play any European competition and that gave them a huge advantage, as the players were much more rested the entire season, over Benfica and Porto. This season they will have European competition (even if they're eliminated by Sevilla from the Chamipons League, they will play the Europa League...);3) they have the same style of play (not risk much, defend well and look for fast counter attacks or set pieces to cause the opponent some damage)...that was evident even at home against lowly Portimonense this weekend.Braga ws always a midtable team but after last year's perfomance teams should defend even more when plying against them (which will make it harder for them to win). Why I'm not so sure right now:1) recently Braga hired some very interesting players (Keeper Felipe from Corinthians, striker Elton from Vasco da Gama, defender Elderson and midfielder Leandro Salino from Nacional Madeira) which makes me think they replaced the players that left the club very well.2) Benfica lost two important players (Ramires to Chelsea and Di Maria to Real Madrid) and have failed to replaced them yet.Until August 31st the pressure on two top stars (defenders David Luís and Fabio Coentrão) still at the club is huge from other big clubs, Benfica and the players are resisting but it is uncertain if they stay. If they leave, that will be a big blow for Benfica despite the moneyAlso, Benfica do not look fit at the start of the season. If they keep the team together and have good replacements for Ramires and Di Maria I think they will end winning the title again.Otherwise...3) Porto lost their 2 leaders (Bruno Alves to Zenit and Raul Meireles who seems to be on his way to Manchester United) in the team, have no bench options IMO and rely too much on 2 players: strikers Falcão and Hulk.
Next few week will tell us a lot.Have a great day!
