Weekend picks

Start the weekend with a bet on Friday in the Superliga.
I decided to stay away form the Bayern game (too early, important players missing, some changes at Wolfsburg...).

Superliga:
Académica-Olhanense: draw (3.22);
Both teams played well in their Superliga debut, have similar value and will fight to avoid relegation.
Playing at home Académica are the slight favorites but last year they only won 4 home games the entire season and I do not expect it to be much different this season.
These teams drew 1-1 last season in this matchup.
I do expect a tight and probably low scoring game here and see the draw as a nice pick at this price.

 everyone!

Another great day  and that makes it 3-1-0 so far for the weekend and 18 1/2-8 1/2-1 for the season at average odds 1.98.

Staying in sunny Madeira on a few days vacation with the family

My Sunday picks:

Superliga:
Portimonense-Naval: Naval +0.5AH (1.59);
Portimonense is back in the 1st division after a 20 year absence.
Naval has been in the Superliga for some time now and are a much more experienced side.
Game will be played in a neutral ground (Algarve stadium, 50km from the city of Portimão) where Portimonense never won a game before. I doubt it they will do it this time around.

Porto-Beira-Mar: Beira-Mar +1.75AH (2.04)
Porto are the clear favorites here but will miss several players tomorrow (Hulk is in Brazil due to a 16 month old niece that passed away and others are injured like Rodriguez) and Beira-Mar are known in Portugal for being Porto's "black beast" in the past.
Beira-Mar will surely play tight defense and with a packed midfield. If they keep it close in the 1st half they might get a decent result here.

Leiria-P. Ferreira: <2.5 (1.51);
Leiria looked as usual in the 1st round of the Superliga as a tight, defensive, game controlling team.
P. Ferreira will be using in this away game a similar tactic to the one they used against Sporting with a tight defense, packed midfield and fast forwards trying to cause some damage.
I do expect a tight and low scoring game here.

Sporting-Maritimo: Maritimo +1AH (1.76);
The two Portuguese disappointments of the Europa League meet tomorrow in Lisbon.
Sporting as a big club is under a lot of pressure from the fans and things are not going their way.
Maritimo as usual will defend hard and look for counter attacks (where they ca creat problems with the pace and skills of the many Brazilians in the team) and set pieces.
I think Maritimo might very well get something out of this game taking advantage of Sporting's current anxiety.

EPL:
Fulham-Man. United: >2.5 (1.94);
5 of the last 6 meetings at Fulham resulted in overs.
Fulham has 4 overs in their last 5 home games while MU has 5 overs in their last 5 away matches.
Also, both teams seem to have great fire power upfront but are not very impressive at the back so far (Fulham conceded goals in all of their last 4 at home and MU conceded goals in all of their last 5 away).

Another very good day  but it could have been better (Sporting scoring a late goal out of a penalty kick messed up the bet...) .
Went 3-1-1 today and 6-2-1 for the weekend.
Current season record is 21 1/2-9 1/2-2 with a winning % of 69.35% at average odds of 1.95.

Last game of the weekend:

Guimarães-Rio Ave: Rio Ave +0.75AH (1.89) and <2.5 (1.63)
Guimarães will have 2 new players available for tomorrow's game: Centre back João Paulo who returns from a few years playing in France and midfielder Cléber who has played many successful years at Nacional (Madeira) but if you look at the players called for tomorrow's game you see defensive minded midfielders and strikers and no creative midfielders. Star Nuno Assis left the club and will play in the Middle East, Rui Miguel seems to be on his way out (coach doesn't seem to like him) and newly hired Brazilian Marcelo Toscano is not yet available.
Last season with a lot more creativity in midfield they had a total os 19 unders in 30 Superliga games.
I don't think they will score much in the near future...

On the other side, Rio Ave is one of the teams in the Superliga that plays a more tight type of game (defensive minded and with a packed midfield) and it's very hard for any team to score against them (Rio Ave had 22 unders in 30 Superliga games last season and they have the same coach and the team is mostly the same...maybe increased firepower upfront this season...).
After losing the season opener at home to Nacional, Rio Ave will be taking a careful approach on this one and will be satisfied if they manage to draw (anything more would be great).

I do expect a tight and low scoring game here.

Another great day  to finish a tremendous weekend !

Went 2-0-0 today and 8-2-1 for the weekend.
Current season record is 23 1/2-9 1/2-2 with a winning % of 71.21% at average odds of 1.94.
+ 13.32 units for the season.

Great weekend and season so far but tomorrow is another day.
Moving on...

Hard to keep such a winning % (and we all know good and bad runs happen) but will do my best to stay "healthy" ...
