It’s beginning to feel a lot like football season.
Last weekend, pigskin fans watched the Hall of Fame Game, kicking off the NFL preseason schedule, and this Tuesday, EA Sports released their annual Madden game – Madden 11.
Like most years, I trotted off to my local video game shoppe to pick up the latest NFL game. The new version is a solid upgrade from last season’s Madden. The graphics are a little better, the playcalling is tweaked and overall, it is an improvement from Madden 10, which was the best football video game I had ever laid my thumbs on.
The people at EA have done it again, making Madden 11 among my favorite sports simulations of all time. Here are some of those video games that dominated my free time since I first picked up an Atari joystick so many years ago:
NBA2K series
When it comes to basketball games, I’ve probably spent more time playing NBA Live 95 back in the day. But the people at 2K Sports make the finest basketball sim known to man. The players, the atmosphere and the gameplay pull you into the NBA action. And it gets even better with this year’s edition which includes Michael Jordan, who will grace the cover of NBA 2K11 in October.
NHLPA 93
Some will argue that NHL 94 was better because it had one-timers in it and both NHL and NHLPA licenses. To those people I say grow a set and learn the move. You know “the move”. Well, at least you did if you were playing on the Sega Genesis. The Supe...

Another summer goes by and Brett Favre sparks another faux-retirement media blitz.
Pretty much every offseason since 2005, the legendary quarterback has flirted with the idea of hanging up his Wranglers and riding his John Deere into the sunset. And 2010 is no exception.
However, this year’s retirement balk comes with a twist – thank God. Reports hit the newswires Wednesday that Favre sent nude pictures of himself to sidline eye candy-turned-sideline reporter, Jenn Sterger. She’s the busty brunette who made rooting for the Florida State Seminoles sexy, then flipped her instant fame and love of football into a career.
Allegedly, Favre and Sterger met while the greybeard QB was with the New York Jets, who also employed Sterger as a reporter or something. The two struck up a friendship, which led to text messages, which led to flirting, which – apparently – led to snap shots of Little Bretty. In one of them, Sterger told Deadspin.com, Favre was sporting Crocs and pulling a quarterback keeper, if you know what I mean.
If true, Favre joins the growing list of pro athletes caught sending lude pics via cell phone (Greg Oden, his tight end Visanthe Shiancoe, Martellus Bennett, George Hill).
He could also join the ranks of NFL creepos like Ben Roethlisberger, who has dodged two sexual assault charges but will serve a six-game suspension to start the 2010 season.
If Sterger’s allegations are true and the QB decides to come back for th...
