I don't know what people see in Matthew Stafford

I continue to question how this guy was the number one overall pick. Yes, he's got a strong arm, can make all the throws, etc....His decision making has always been questionable at best and he often tries to make plays that aren't there. I do not think his mental grasp of the position is strong enough to warrant the number one overall pick. I know it was the SEC, but the guy didn't even dominate in college. Even Joey Harrington put up numbers in college! I do not see Stafford ever taking the Lions anywhere, but maybe that is just me...

Just need to give him sometime.  Most QB looks lost when they first enter the NFL anyway.  At least in his case, all he needs is to win 1 game and the Lions would have double their number of wins from last season.

Personally, I don't really see any clear cut 1st pick in this year's draft anyway.  If I were the Lions front office, I'll go with the someone else like a linesman to slowly rebuild the line first or trade down to get more picks and wait out for next year when there are more options at the QB position.

Jake - I disagree with you. You said even Harrington put up numbers in college. Matt was in a total different offense, in one of the toughest defensive divisions maybe in the history of college football. He was in a run first pro set offense. I dont care who was playin QB for them last year they werent gona put up big numbers. I do think his decision making is questionable ( or bad) right now but there arent many rookies who arent. Fact is hes taking over a team who won ZERO games last year. If you think cause you got the number 1 pick you were gona be a contender, your sadly mistaken. Your line in no good, if your defense doesnt get some kind of a unitity they will be as bad as last year, and the players there dont know how to win yet. But there is alot of talent in key spots on this team. The LB crew is very good. You have what would be the best WR in the league if he played for any other team. You have good other WRs also. Kevin Smith is underated, and gona be very good. You have a good backup there now in Morris. Point being Give the guy a fukin season before calling him out like this. I think he has everything you could want physically as a QB.

That was an atrocious pick he threw last night. But I definitely am not going to judge him when he doesn't have his starting receivers. Calvin Johnson, Bryant Johnson and Northcutt all out... Calvin Johnson opens the whole playbook open when he is in there. When your best receiver out there is Dane Looker you're in trouble. From what I have seen at training camp when he is throwing to real recievers he has been great. Not to mention Pettigrew is out as well. Nontheless I want to see Daunte the starter this year.

You can pretty much book it now that the Lions will draft the lineman from Oklahoma or Oklahoma State next year.

Yes Elway didn't win one until he got some talent behind him, but what did he do when he had marginal talent beside him?

Both Elway and Marino were in very similar situations at the same time. Extremely talented quarterbacks surrounded with servicable talent at best. Elway managed to lead the Broncos to 5 AFC championships and 4 super bowls with that talent surrounding him. Marino got to one bowl and didn't sniff one after that.

Because you forget, before Sharpe, Smith, Davis, and McCafferey, there was Johnson, Nattiel, Jackson, and Sammy Winder. Not exactly HOF'ers.

Elway did much more with less than Marino did.

Matt Stafford = the next Jeff George? That's how I see him in a few years.

Lions have good offensive players to compete and win respect. It's their defense that I question.

If I was the lions, I would have pick a good left tackle then sign Michael Vick :)

Vick is surely a better player than Stafford

I disagree supadame, Elway ALWAYS had more talent around him in my opinion. He always had a solid defense while Marino had to win shootouts in order to win for the most part. I don't think Jesus could have won with Kareen Abdul Jabar in the backfield...

Hey richardtonsj - how can winning one game be double last years or really any years total? they won 0 games and there is no double of zero.
