Saturday nights are like St. James wine,
sweeter than most and always a good time.
Tonight's first pick might make your day,
have faith in a team called
U-C-L-A (-2).
And if your bets have been simply tragic,
lay some cheese on the
Orlando Magic (-1.5).
Finally, the books will feel the pain,
when the winner is the
Hurricanes (NHL, -135).
--Good night, and good bets!

(A chorus of drunken sports fans.)Fat Tuesday!
Fat Tuesday!
Fat Tuesday!
Fat Tuesday!
(MC Bet gives an improvised beat box.)It's Fat Tuesday y'all, so gather around,
while we eat, drink, and get down.
Forget all warnings about excess,
for today dysfunction is almost blessed.

I like Barcelona like "My Sharona,"
But I knew that Lyon had bite.
So I played the over, but Barcelona
Can't seem to do anything right.
So raise a glass to the second half,
And hope Barca slips out of their coma.
Don't make me write a hateful rap,
Barcelona give us the over!

Good evening all cappers and degenerate gamblers,
it's your favorite rapper...illmatic rambler.
I seem to have fallen on betting hard times,
like Clapton's jam "Born Under A Bad Sign."
But don't you worry, don't you fret,
because I got more verse and more phat bets.
I like
Louisville (-2) to slug Georgetown,
as Terrence Williams makes the Hoyas frown.
And b-ball bets can't get any merrier than a
play on the "vicious"
Wofford Terriers (-2).
Peace....Love....And I'm out.
[*MC Bet bought down the Wofford Terrier wager to -2 (-140). He simply can't fathom how a team named after a small dog is going to cover the -3.5. As MC Bet said to me, "If the team was named the Wofford Pit Bulls, I'd bet the point spread...large."]

I'm
MC Bet, not B-E-T.
I'm always watchin' ESPN HD.
I love sports and I love to wager,
and I dunk on all the player haters.
Tonight's first pick is the
Demon Deacons (+7),
gonna leave the Cameron Crazies weeping.
Next I like the
Lakers (-9.5) to defang the T-Wolves,
as Minnesota plays D like a bunch of girls.
The first half in Tempe goes to
Arizona State (-4),
as the Sun Devils blind the Wildcats late....
But before you go and turn out the lights,
catch
Mickey Rourke's (-210) speech on Oscar night.
Word to your mother!

It looks as though I am in a major college basketball funk. Therefore, I am turning to another favorite sport, hockey. Behold the following
puck parlay:
Red Wings ML (-145)and Blues ML (-140)Good luck, everyone. And remember, if at first you don't succeed, keep on sucking! No. No. No. Truly, keep on wagering. Because at some point you
will win. And then you will jump around your home like a three-year-old. And then you will post an ego maniacal message on Covers. Until then...

Granted I haven't picked many winners lately, but at least I'm not actor Christian Bale, who recently went bipolar on a lighting technician, or Chris Brown, who pummeled his girlfriend, the sweet pop princess, Rihanna.
Utah State +160Utah State's only loss over the last ten games was to Boise State. Also, they hold a significant advantage over St. Mary's in defense, three point percentage, and free throw percentage.
Even if I lose this wager, always remember, no matter how many millions or billions you ever make, to treat others as you wish to be treated...and never hit a woman....Just take away her credit card...or refuse to see the next "great" chick flick.
Good luck, everyone!

Here are a few late plays to avenge the Dookie loss:
Celtics ML (-135)and

Rock and roll!

Say this aloud and tell me you are not even remotely shocked: The Duke Blue Devils have lost three of the last four games.
True, but let's give the Blue Devils their due. The last four games Duke has faced tough ACC competition, including North Carolina at home and an amped up Clemson Tiger team on the road.
Tonight the Blue Devils visit St. Johns, a team averaging 55.7 points and 35.4% shooting over the last four games -- all losses. Last February the Red Storm visited the Blue Devils...and left as 30-point losers. The line opened at 10.5 in favor of Duke, but has now increased to 13.5. I speculate that Duke's statistics, especially on defense, have taken a hit due to recent and fierce ACC opponents. However, I bought the line I played down one point.
Duke -11.5 (-130)
Although it may be asking too much for another ranked team to cover the spread on the road, I have faith in the Xavier Musketeers. At 21-4, Xavier is coming off of a home 88-53 beat down of Fordham. The Musketeers previously sliced and diced the Charlotte 49ers 69-47 at home on January 28th.
Xavier -7
My final college basketball offering has the Denver Pioneers covering the spread (-6) versus the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. Denver has a five game home winning streak, while the Toddler Tantrum Cajuns have lost six straight on the road. As long as Denver continues playing strong defense...and hits a high percentag...

"...and I say, it's all right..."
Sorry for the Beatles reference, because I rather prefer the Rolling Stones.
I'm also sorry the Houston Cougars decided to play like...well, the Eastern Illinois Panthers.
In an effort to "Get Back" at the Cougars, I'm playing...
Phoenix Suns -9I don't expect the Suns to win by 40 points, but I still predict another solar eclipse for the Clippers...and an ATS win for Phoenix!

After last night's Michigan State mess, I'm hoping to bounce back with a couple of slam dunk plays:
Houston Cougars -4.5The Cougars have a four game winning streak, and are 3-0 against the Blundering Herd the last three meetings. Houston plays significantly better than Marshall on the defensive side of the ball. Marshall is 1-8-1 against the spread the last 10 home games.
Tennessee Martin -5I may be a graduate of Eastern Illinois, but I'd be a fool to play the Panthers...even with tonight's festive final home game atmosphere, which includes a free Nerf-like camouflage basketball sponsored by the National Guard. Rah-rah! Tennessee Martin beat E.I.U. 65-51 on January 24th, have won 10 straight games, and outscore the Panthers by more than 20 points (last five games).
May all your wagers be winners!

...Spartan green, that is!
With a stellar road record of 6-0 this season, Michigan State is quickly erasing the memory of a horrid 5-14 record as visitors over the past two seasons.
Both MSU and Purdue play outstanding defense, nearly holding opponents to 50 points per game, but lately the Spartans have been better offensively. In addition, the Spartans expect to get between 10-20 minutes tonight from second-leading scorer Raymar Morgan, still weakened by a bought with mononucleosis.
Purdue's Robbie Hummel, who with 24 points and 11 rebounds was a major factor in beating the Spartans last year, is still not 100% (hairline fracture of the lower back). Against Iowa on Saturday, he played 24 minutes and only scored two points.

Howdy pardners,
While I feel that the Longhorns will wrangle a victory by 2-5 points, I'm playing the...

Quick question everyone:
How did your sportsbook handle the payout of the NBA All-Star MVP award? I use BetED, and for a lark I placed small wagers on Amare Stoudemire (+600), Kobe Bryant (+250), and Shaquille Oneal (+1000).
The wagers never settled before I called it an evening, but I did get to see the press conference where Kobe apparently gave the MVP award to Shaq.
This morning I discovered that BetED declared Shaq the winning bet --
a full payout at +1000!
I'm happy with BetED's decision, but only wish I had wagered the normal amount. Imagine the Shaqtastic bling I could have if only I had more faith in The Big Aristotle.

Hello Covers faithful,
It's been a long time since I last posted, but everything's kosher. No health problems. No jail time. No alien abduction.
Although I am a graduate of Illinois State, I honestly like the Redbirds at +1 this evening.
Like it or not, I plan to make a triumphant and bedazzling comeback to the Covers forum.
Good luck,ladies and gents!
