Looking back at past Super Bowls to dictate your wager for this year's big game is like bumping into an old girlfriend: Sure, it's fun to go over the past, but it's not going anywhere.
Unless that girlfriend happens to be the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Turning back the pages a couple of years to Super Bowl XXXVII can give some hint to what could play out in Tampa this weekend.
In that 2003 tilt, former Raiders coach Jon Gruden used his knowledge of his old team to give the Bucs the inside edge, leading them to a 48-21 thrashing of Oakland and a Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt will be standing in similar shoes this Sunday when he stares across the field at his former employer. Whisenhunt was the Steelers' offensive mastermind for three years and drew up the plans for their Super Bowl XL victory.
His Cardinals are currently 6.5-point underdogs for Super Bowl XLIII on Sunday. Legendz opened with this number two weeks ago and after a slight move to seven, the money on Arizona has brought the line back to its original post.

It's been six days since the numbers for Super Bowl XLIII were released. Just long enough for them to marinate with the betting public.
Things have been relatively quiet as far as Super Bowls go. Outside of some drama with the Arizona Cardinals' Anquan Boldin, both teams are doing a good job keeping the wolves at bay. At least until after the bye weekend.
That's when the game really begins.
Our number at Legendz has seen some one-sided action on the Pittsburgh Steelers, moving it from the opening post of 6.5 points to the key number of a touchdown. It seems early-bird bettors don't expect to see much under seven points handed to the Cardinals before kickoff February 1.
Whether you are siding with the boys from Steeltown or believe in the underdogs from Arizona, Legendz is providing the expert customer service and quick payouts you would expect during the biggest betting time of the year.

If someone woke up from an NFL season-long coma and saw the matchups for the Conference Championships, they'd probably suffer a relapse.
Yeah, sure. The Pittsburgh Steelers have been in contention all year. But the Arizona Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens weren't on most people's list of Super Bowl contenders as the schedule progressed.
The Cardinals won the booby prize in the NFC West and turned what was a formality into a possible ticket to Tampa Bay. They'll meet the equally surprising Eagles, who were more like a phoenix after rising from the NFC East ashes, in the NFC championship game.
Arizona is best known for its high-flying passing attack but could be without receiver Anquan Boldin on Sunday. Philly is also able to move the chains through the air, keeping linebackers on a swivel with versatile running back Brian Westbrook breaking off huge plays.
We opened with Arizona as a 3.5-point home underdog and watched the public pound Philly, moving the number to its current stand of 4 points.
On the other side of the league, the Steelers are 6-point ... [More]

Everyone loves an underdog story. Whether it’s Rocky Balboa, the George Mason Patriots, or last year's New York Giants.
Underdogs are easy to fall for. They have nothing to lose against an unbeatable foe and when they do pull off the upset, it tugs at our heartstrings and make us believe in something other than stats and figures.
The Philadelphia Eagles are beginning to pick up an underdog following after coming back from the dead in the regular season to play for a spot in the NFC Championship. Many fans and writers have tagged the Eagles as this year's Giants.
But before Philly can write the next page in the fairy tale, it has to go through the original longshot – the New York Giants. The NFC East foes meet for the third time this season at Giants Stadium on Sunday.
We at Legendz don't hold the same soft spot for underdogs, tagging New York as a 4-point home favorite. However, this number is far more generous than the spread for their previous game in the Meadowlands. The Eagles were 6.5-point underdogs in that matchup and just covered in a 20-14 loss to the G Men.

Outside of the New York Giants and Tennessee Titans, finding a clear-cut favorite to win the Super Bowl or even the Conference championship is about as tough as getting Ray Lewis to crack a smile on gameday.
The extremely level playing field of the 2008 NFL season has kept oddsmakers, like the ones here at Legendz, up late at night crunching the numbers for the AFC Wild Card matchups. After hours of debate and six pots of coffee, we've handed the points to both host teams.
Legendz opened with the Miami Dolphins as 3.5-point home underdogs against the Baltimore Ravens and posted the San Diego Chargers as 1-point pups versus the Indianapolis Colts.
Bettors have split on Sunday's game, keeping the line steady. However, early action on Saturday's tilt between the Colts and Bolts has moved the line to a pick'em as of Thursday night.
No matter where the lines travel for this weekend's AFC games, our customers can bank on Legendz's quick and easy payouts and expert customer service.

For a while there, it looked like no one wanted to win the AFC West.
The San Diego Chargers and Denver Broncos, the two favorites to claim the division, seemed to sag down to the level of their divisional brethren - the Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs.
Now with just one game remaining in the regular season, both the Broncos and Chargers duke it out to see who goes on to the playoffs and who starts booking vacation plans.
We at Legendz opened with San Diego as a 9-point home favorite in Qualcomm Stadium Sunday night and that number has stayed steady throughout the week. Our customers can count on our expert service and quick payouts during this busy final week of the NFL schedule.
The Chargers have pulled their feet from the quicksand with three straight wins heading into the weekend. They've relied on their resurgent offense that has scored more than 32 points per game during this stretch.

Winning cures everything.
No matter how thick the tension gets in the locker room, a solid victory can act like a hot knife through butter.
Two weeks ago, Valley Ranch was ground zero for football's longest running soap opera. Following the Dallas Cowboys' devastating loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, tempers and egos flared between drama-king wideout Terrell Owens and BFF's Tony Romo and tight end Jason Witten.
Heading into Sunday night's important tilt with the New York Giants, football bettors were more enthralled with the battles in Cowboys camp than the ones on the field. And while the world focused on T.O.'s reaction to every play, Dallas snuck in and handed the Giants their third loss of the season.
Problem solved.
Things are surprisingly quiet around Irving this week. So quiet in fact that little was said about the return of troubled corner Adam “Pacman” Jones. He was supposed to miss the remainder of the season with a neck injury but is back at practice and will suit up this weekend.
Jones will join fellow corner Terence Newman in the defensive backfield, boosting a Cowboys defense that has played its best football in recent weeks. Dallas budged for just... [More]

You won’t see a more desperate team take the field this season than the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night. Not even the 0-13 Detroit Lions are playing with the urgency that has engulfed America's Team.
The Cowboys are clinging to the final wild-card spot like the last Guitar Hero World Tour left on the shelf. After a crushing loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last weekend, Dallas is in must-win mode in the final three weeks of the schedule.
For a team with such adversity standing between it and the postseason, the Cowboys seem be focusing on everything but the New York Giants, who are 3-point underdogs in Texas Stadium.
After opening the line at a field goal, we at Legendz won't be moving off this number with good two-way action on both the defending Super Bowl champs and the nation's most popular sports franchise.
Like every Sunday Night Football matchup, Legendz is up to the task of any sized wager and can ensure our customers get the quickest pa... [More]

The versatility of the NFL talent pool is gradually being diluted. The importance of high-powered offense and the stardom that comes with it has many talented youngsters trying out for running back, quarterback and wide receiver, rather than the defensive line, linebacker and defensive back.
Just look at the league's top-selling jerseys. There are the usual suspects: Favre, Romo, Peterson and even Tom Brady. But you've got to go deep down the list to find players like Demarcus Ware, Brian Urlacher and the Baltimore Ravens' Ray Lewis.
However, if you told Lewis he was only the 54th best-selling jersey in the league, the nine-time pro bowl linebacker would probably fire back with something sharp like, “So?”.
Lewis doesn't care if half the kids in the stadium are rocking No. 52. All that concerns him is winning football games. And that's just what the Ravens are doing. They've won five of their last six games and have slipped into the final playoff spot in the AFC with four games remaining on the schedule.
Baltimore goes for win No. 6 when it hosts the Washington Redskins at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday night.

Outside of crunching numbers and constantly watching the injury wire, we oddsmakers do have fun with football.
Most of us watch the games, have a favorite team and even play fantasy football.
I'll admit it. I am a proud fantasy football owner. “Bobby's Boys” sit triumphantly in second place of my make-believe league, and most of the credit goes to Minnesota Viking running back Adrian Peterson.
While the Vikes aren't my team of choice (they're actually my brother’s fave), I can't help but concentrate on the office television broadcasting their showdowns each Sunday. And who could blame me?
Peterson is second in the NFL in rushing with 1,180 yards on the ground this season. He's scored eight touchdowns and has had six 100-plus yard games in the first 12 weeks of the schedule. Needless to say, he's a fantasy gold mine.
Peterson and Minnesota are currently listed as 3-point home favorites when they host NFC North rivals the Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football. We opened this game at -3.5 but action on the Bears has dropped the line to a field goal.

Football fans in the City of Brotherly Love nearly lost their minds following the Philadelphia Eagles' 13-13 tie game with the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday.
It wasn't that the Eagles failed to beat one of the league's worst teams that had backers' blood boiling. Nor was it the four turnovers from Philadelphia that kept the Bengals in the game.
What really got under the skin of Philly fanatics was Donovan McNabb's lack of knowledge regarding tie games. McNabb admitted to reporters that he wasn't aware there were ties in football. And by the reaction from local critics and cynics, you could have sworn McNabb had bad-mouthed Rocky Balboa.
What Eagles fans should really be upset with is the quarterback's performance on the field, not his comments in the locker room. McNabb has been inconsistent behind center, punctuating brilliant appearances with ugly showings.
One of those unimpressive efforts came against Cincinnati. McNabb threw for 339 yards and one touchdown but was intercepted three times by an average pass defense. He missed numerous open targets and completed just three of the team's 18 third-down plays – all of them passing plays.
McNabb will stare down one of the NFL's best defenses in Baltimore on Sunday. We at ... [More]

The Tennessee Titans' unbelievable 9-0 run all started with the Jacksonville Jaguars back on September 7.
The Titans claimed their first win with a 17-10 victory over the Jags as 3-point home underdogs, thanks to their hard-hitting front seven. Tennessee collected seven sacks, recovered a fumble and held Jacksonville's rushing attack to just 33 yards.
That stingy defense worked in Week 1 and it's worked in every game since. The Titans are allowing opponents to get away with just 285 yards and 13 points per game this season.
They meet Jacksonville again Sunday and Legendz has Tennessee set as a 2.5-point road favorite. The line opened at -3 but the public's belief in the Jaguars has closed the gap between the two teams.
Legendz is ready to handle any type of play on this intriguing divisional matchup. Whether you're siding with the NFL's only undefeated team or banking on the streak to stop, you can feel confident in Legendz’s numbers and lightning-quick payouts.

If you constantly play with fire, sooner or later, you're going to get burned.
The Pittsburgh Steelers may have rolled the dice too many times with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger playing behind a shoddy offensive line.
Roethlisberger has been sacked 29 times this season, tied for third most in the NFL, and suffered a separated shoulder because of the lack of protection earlier in the year. However, the gritty QB was playing through the pain until last week's win over the Washington Redskins.
He was sacked five times and constantly knocked down in the 23-6 win on Monday Night Football, but it wasn't until Roethlisberger barreled for a 1-yard QB keeper that the burly pivot's body broke down. He left the game at halftime after aggravating the injured shoulder and did not return.
Roethlisberger underwent an MRI Tuesday and has not practiced this week. The Steelers have not released the results from his examination and currently have him listed as uncertain.
Earlier this week, Pittsburgh opened as a 3-point ... [More]

Being America's Team is a distraction.
And those distractions force the Dallas Cowboys to bring in players like Terrell Owens and Adam Jones. Who in turn, become distractions.
Add to those distractions, injuries to starting quarterback Tony Romo and reception leader Jason Witten, and you've got such a buffet of distraction it's a wonder that anyone at Valley Ranch can open a door let alone win a football game.
You can't turn on the sports channel or thumb through your local newspaper without stumbling upon the ongoing saga of the Cowboys. But while those stories focus on the “distractions”, they actually distract bettors from what's really wrong in Big D.
Dallas' current issues on and off the field have it listed as a 9-point underdog when it travels to the Meadowlands to face the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants. We opened with this NFC East rivalry set at -7 ½ and watched Giants money push the number to its current standing.

This Saturday's clash between SEC heavyweights, the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs, would have been pegged the ticket puncher for the national title game if not for Week 5 of the NCAA schedule.
Pesky Week 5.
Most bettors remember that week of the schedule for Oregon State's stunner over Southern Cal, but it was also the same week in which Florida lost to Mississippi in upset fashion and Alabama knocked off Georgia, catapulting the Crimson Tide into the national spotlight.
Since that fateful Saturday, both the Gators and Bulldogs have scratched and clawed trying to get back into the BCS title talks.
Florida has rampaged through its second-half schedule, destroying Arkansas and Kentucky and popping the LSU Tigers' bubble with a convincing 51-21 victory.
Georgia has also been fueled since its fall from grace, beating Tennessee and Vanderbilt and also ending LSU's BCS bowl game hopes with a 52-38 smack in the face.

I went to breakfast with a couple of colleagues on Sunday morning before the early action started. After a few cups of coffee and scrambled eggs, we got onto the topic of potential NFL MVP's for this season.
The usual suspects came up in the conversation. Eli Manning. Ben Roethlisberger. Clinton Portis. It was actually much harder to peg a legit contender than you'd think. We tried to narrow it down to the best player on the best team.
Then we came to the undefeated Tennessee Titans.
Tennessee is the ultimate “Team” team. While there are some outstanding players on the roster, the Titans have climbed to the peak of the NFL as a group, covering in all six of their games.
That's the reason we tagged Tennessee as a 4-point home favorite against the Indianapolis Colts on Monday Night Football. It's just the second time in the last 10 meetings between these teams that the Titans were giving the points. Tennessee has covered in four straight after losing six in a row against the spread to Indianapolis.

Football fans better get out the notepad and program the TiVo when the New York Giants visit the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. There's a good chance we could see this matchup again on February 1.
Both teams lead their respective division with a 5-1 record heading into Week 8. New York is 4-2 against the spread while Pittsburgh has split paydays with a 3-3 ATS mark.
We opened with the Steelers set as slight 2 1/2-point home favorites and public money has moved the line to -3. They've gone 2-0 inside Heinz Field with a 1-1 ATS record.
If you're a NFC fan wagering on the Giants, or an AFC backer placing your cash on Pittsburgh, you can be confident Legendz can handle any amount of action on Sunday's biggest game. Our trusted and experienced staff provides efficient service and the quickest payouts on the web.

For all the home runs the Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays hit this postseason, Game 1 of the World Series was a pitching showcase.
Both starters performed masterfully in their Fall Classic debuts, with Philly's Cole Hamels getting the win with a seven-inning, two-run effort in which he struck out five and walked two batters.
Tonight's Game 2 matchup between Philadelphia's Brett Myers and Tampa Bay's James Shields doesn't have the same main-event status as Wednesday's dueling aces. However, because of this matchup bettors will get a clearer look at the real story behind these World Series contenders – the bullpen.
We opened Game 2 with the Rays listed as -150 home favorites due to Shields' recent success on the hill. The righty pitched two solid outings in the ALCS, but suffered losses in both games after being out-gunned by Daisuke Matsuzaka and Josh Beckett. Shields is 10-4 with a 2.74 ERA at Tropicana Field this year.

Bragging rights in the Big Ten aren't the only thing on the line when the No. 3 Penn State Nittany Lions roll into Columbus to face the No. 11 Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday night.
This clash of the conference titans has bowl game implications. The winner could go on to the BCS title game while the loser would likely settle for the Fiesta or Rose Bowls.

Where do the New England Patriots go from here?
The team has strayed so far from its preseason expectations, is it now time to pack it in and look towards next year?
Up until a week ago, I would have said no. Despite Tom Brady's injury and the offense relying on backup Matt Cassel, the Patriots weren't all that bad. Cassel appeared to be finding his timing with receivers and the banged-up running game was healthy enough to find pay dirt inside the red zone.
The New England defense was the one constant. It was keeping games close on the scoreboard and giving bettors a shot at covering the spread. Then came the San Diego Chargers in Week 6.
The Chargers rolled over the Patriots 30-10 as 6-point favorites last Sunday night. They exposed the holes in the New England offense, sacking Cassel four times and grabbing one interception while locking down the rushing attack for just over 100 yards and one score.
The biggest surprise was New England's inability to even slow down San Diego's offense. The secondary was picked apart by quarterback Phillip Rivers who completed 18 of 27 passes for more than 300 yards and three touchdowns. Even an injured LaDainian Tomlinson broke off 74 yards on the ground.

The cat’s out of the bag on Peyton Manning’s offseason ailments.
Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy spilled the beans earlier this week that his star quarterback had not just one, but two knee surgeries on an infected bursa sac (perhaps the most disgusting thing ever written in this blog) before returning to training camp back in August.
Making his surgeries public didn’t sit well with Manning. The eight-time pro bowler says he didn’t want opposing defenses to know his weakness. I always thought it was saying ‘no’ to commercials. He also admitted to picking on fresh-off-surgery defensive backs and that he would expect his rivals to do the same with him.
That additional surgery isn’t swaying the money on Indianapolis for this Sunday’s matchup with the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. The public had moved our spread from a pick’em to Colts -2 as of midweek. However, bets on the Packers brought the number back down to -1 ½.

You can almost picture Joe Maddon sitting at his desk, feet up, chewing on an arm of his plastic-frame glasses and imagining what could be for Game 5 of the ALCS on Thursday night.
His Tampa Bay Rays are on the verge of the franchise’s first American League pennant and will head to the World Series with a win over the defending champion Boston Red Sox.
With this dancing in his head, Maddon took the ball out of scheduled starter James Shields’ glove and handed it to Scott Kazmir.
This move may have caught baseball bettors off guard, but we here at Legendz are tough to surprise. With our years of oddsmaking experience and proven track record, we released Maddon’s revamped lineup as a +133 underdog at Fenway Park.
The Rays’ manager defended his decision Wednesday. Maddon said the extra day off between games gives Kazmir his usual four days of rest, and puts an additional 24 hours between him and his horrific Game 2 appearance last Saturday.
Kazmir couldn’t get ahold of his breaking ball in that start, racking up nearly 100 pitches in just over four innings ... [More]

It’s judgment day in East Lansing.
The Michigan State Spartans are on the cusp of breaking away from their recent aura of underachieving. All that stands between them and becoming a legit contender is the Big Ten’s biggest bully.
