It’s hard to imagine we haven’t seen this score (11-10) in 12,837 games. It is even harder to imagine that Pittsburgh’s Troy Polamalu, making his second superstar play of the game, could score a game ending touchdown -- on a broken lateral pass -- with no time on the clock, effecting all wagers on the game, and then have the referees call it back for no apparent reason. The betting world stopped in shock.
The play happened after a late Steelers Field Goal, giving the Steelers a 1 point lead with 11 seconds left. With 5 seconds left, and the Chargers 1st and 10 at their own 21 yard line, Philip Rivers threw a short pass to LaDanian Tomlinson. Tomlinson then makes a lateral pass to a teammate, who then attempts to make an additional lateral pass to another teammate. Polamalu breaks up the play, picks up the ball, and runs into the end-zone as the clocks run out.
Steelers win 17-10.
The officials then reviewed the play, overturn the call (claiming an illegal forward pass), and revert the score to 11-10 and call the game complete.
With the line between -3.5 and -5 all week, the Steelers would have covered with the late TD, but with it being called back, all of those wagers are officially deemed a loss.
After the game, Official Scott Green conceded that they made a mistake, and that the TD should have stood.
In light of this mishap, and understanding the manner in which our players would be effected by this blown call by NFL officials, Logans.com has decided to not only refund all losing wagers, but to pay them as if they were winners.
