Guru's Monday Plays

3-2-2 yesterday +2.0 units

Was primed for a monster day.  2 losses came on the TB/Bos over where there were so many men LOB, and Twinkies ML leading 4-0 and Baker having a no-hitter going into the 7th.
Cashed my parlay and went 1-0-1 on 3*'s so I'm happy I'm on the plus side but disappointed it wasn't alot more.

On to today.....probably the worst card for me all season but I will make do.  Start off with a few plays and be back with more later.

3* Orioles/Rays over 9.5 -105 risking 3.15 to win 3:

The over is 61-33 over last 3 season when Balt is facing a lefty.  Both teams are hitting above .280 against their respective handed starter tonight.
Bullpens factor into this play as well.  Baltimore BP era is a lovely 7.75 on the road, and TB's is not much better at home with a 5.91 era.
Eaton's career era against the Rays is 5.40 with a 1.800 whip, and Kazmir counters with a 4.36 era and a whip of 1.576

Throw in the fact that 13 of the last 17 in TB between these two teams has gone over the total.

2* Marlins/Reds over 8 +100 risking 2 to win 2:

Marlins are 26-10 o/u in the last 3 seasons as a home favourite of -125 to -150.  They are also 22-9 L3 seasons on the over, when there is a total of 8-8.5.

Reds are hitting slightly better on the road, and batting much better against righties.

13 of the last 15 in Florida between these two has gone over the total, including the last 8 straight.

Cincy's BP has been pitching OK at best, but Florida has been god awful at home with a staggering 9.11 era.  Ouch.

Throw in Harang's career 6.70 era and 1.752 whip against the fish and I will gladly take 8 runs and higher.

Be back with more in a bit....need to do extra research today.

2* Dbacks/Dodgers under 9 risking 2.2 to win 2:

Trying not to overthink this one.  I will continue to play the unders in AZ games until they show me they are capable of putting up runs.

Dbacks are 0-7 O/U on the road this season, and 15-39 O/U in the last 3 seasons on the road with a total of 9 or 9.5.

They are batting only .188 against Lefties this year and only averaging 2.1 runs against them.

Davis has pretty good numbers against the Dodgers, going 5-3 with a 3.04 era and 1.30 whip.  I don't expect him to win tonight, but he should keep them somewhat close.

Stults has already pitched against them this year, and is now 1-0 against them with a 1.69 era and 1.12 whip.

1* Dodgers ML + Nationals ML risking 1 to win 2.4

Adding:

2* Braves ML -120 risking 2.4 to win 2:

Not a fan of laying any kind of chalk, but will take this play regardless.

This is more of a fade of Maine today more than anything.  He just hasn't looked right this year and I don't think his game has evolved much if at all over the past couple of seasons.

He's a carerr 2-3 against the Braves with a 5.17 era and a 1.6 whip.

Vasquez used to love pitching against the Mets.  He's averaged a 3.25 era which is nice, but an even better whip under 1.100.

Braves are 12-6 against the Mets at home over the past 3 seasons.

3* Cards -1 +115 risking 3 to win 3.45:

Cards have done very nicely for me this year so I will continue to pound them, especially after a loss as they are 6-1 this year coming off a loss.

No BP edge in this game as both teams are mid 4's, but there is a batting edge in favour of the Cards.

Cards are batting a solid .292 against righties this year, while the Phillies are only hitting righties at a .251 clip.

Blanton did have a great game against the Cards last year, but too small a sample to suggest he has a solid advantage.

Lohse is a career 2.20 against the Phillies with a very nice whip of 1.07.

Final two plays:

2* Angels ML -110 risking 2.2 to win 2

1* Red Sox ML -105 risking 1.05 to win 1

Final Card:

3* Cards -1

3* TB/Balt over 9.5

2* Braves ML

2* Angels ML

2* Marlins/Reds over 8

2* Dbacks/Dodgers under 9

1* RedSox ML

1* Dodgers + Nats ML

Hey cyph, even Parra looked like a giant against them.  I don't think Dodgers put up more than 4 or 5 in this game.  I don't think AZ will get to 3.

Out of curiousity you a Devils fan?  Myself and two buddies live and die by them, and we were crushed last week.

Lets Go DBacks under.

Any thoughts on my Mets? Not betting em but Maine is getting better however I still have flashbacks of Javier Vasquez hitting a # run dinger off of Steve Trachsel circa01 when he played for the expos. He used to kill the Mets  with the bat and on the hill.

MLBguru says:
05/04/09 01:34PM
Yea Cyph, Maine's numbers against the Braves are not impressive.  2-3 5.17 era and 1.6 whip is not going to get it done.

Hoping for a flashback performance from Vasquez tonight. He definitely feels a little extra good against these guys from that HR.

cyph718 says:

Im an idiot I didnt see that the Braves were already one of your picks. I hope you are wrong on that one but probably not.

Weather is bad in NY looks like the Yankee game may be a no go.

I also like gallardo tonight . may put a small bet on  Brewers to show my support. Hit one out shut em out. damn I love the National league.
MLBguru says:
05/04/09 02:00PM
Hey Cyph, definitely think Brewers win the game, I just think the juice is quite crap especially being on the road and the spread at 7.5 which indicates low scoring where either team can win.

Guru: i know you gave the Cardinals a 3* play but would you say this is the strongest play on the board or is there a stronger play out there

thanks
MLBguru says:
05/04/09 02:39PM

It's part strong play and part value.  Getting some points like that caught my eye and is why I made it a 3*.

I'm generally a totals capper....I would say TB/BOS over is my fav play of the day.

MLBguru says:
05/04/09 02:40PM
I should also say I'm 16-3-1 in Arizona totals betting. So I think the AZ under is solid as well.  I think probably 15 of those 16 wins have been unders.
JZA says:
05/04/09 02:46PM
thanks guru, i like the AZ-LA under as well...just trying to decide my big plays today, the cardinals line has value, without a doubt its worth a play - but the value is realized only if they win!
MLBguru says:
05/04/09 02:57PM

Haha very true Jza...very true.

Cards are the better team right now.  Lohse has nice career numbers against the Phillies, and St. Louis is hitting .292 off righties right now.

Blanton takes it like a man tonight....a man in prison that is.
