Just curious.  I'm just started giving it a whirl.  I think there's money to made here.  After years and years of douchbags playing Hold'em, eventually people are going to start to drift to new games.  Here in Las Vegas it's happening already, younger and younger people are starting to play the old man's game cause they're getting tired of Hold'em.  Mixed games are getting more and more popular.

If you are a hold'em player trying Omaha/8 for the first time, remember this advice. Since you are starting with more cards than you are in hold'em, you must have tighter starting hand requirements than you do in hold'em. You're going to like the looks of your cards and want to play more, but don't fall into that trap.

Omaha/8 is a game of flushes and full houses. Two pair is very strong in hold'em but very weak in Omaha/8. A high pocket pair is a terrible hand unimproved. A straight can be strong if you have the high end, but be very careful with straights if the board shows three suited cards or a pair. For example, if there are more than two people in the pot and there are three of a suit on the board, the odds are extremely high that someone has a flush. In general the temptation for you to draw will be huge. Also, remember you're trying to scoop the pot; don't play for just half the pot.

Playing for half the pot will get you broke so fast it's scary.

thats the way it is with most smaller rooms...one of the reasons I have been lazy about going down there....

I play in a solid mixed game here in Ohio.... of Limit Hold'em, Omaha, Omaha Hi-Lo, Stud, Razz, Stud Hi-Lo, 2 - 7 and A - 5 Triple Draw

we also throw in No Limit Hold'em and Pot Limit Omaha into the mix as well....

we play 6 handed and it's a really good game most nights when I sit....

I have been playing this game more, when it is available, with some success. (I got a Royal flush and the bonus was $500 , so that made it a good day) I have been playing maybe 75% of the hands i get, chucking only just the very worst hands. Most guys in these games play tight, and you often have guys chasing lows and then getting quartered, so I am mostly looking toohit high hands, So some of these guys look at me like I am a fish, which is fine, because I am cashing out most of the time. Sometimes I will hit a gutshot, but the key is, for example if you need 1 card for a broadway straight, and it will make the nuts w/ no low, you nhave to chase it if the pot is big. scooping pots is big in this game.

gotta admit, PLO is the new game everyone 'wants' to play, but most can't afford to play...the pots get massive from the first shuffle and people will go broke much faster if this game finds its way into all casinos.

i played my first ever live PLO at Niagara Falls this summer (blinds were 5-10, buyin was 200-1000), and i loved the action and the pots were really juicy, but i saw people get stuck large amounts of money because of the action nature of the game and their lack of ability to fold preflop.

in about 3 hours, i recall only playing 6 hands, winning 4 of them by either taking it down on the flop or the turn with pot sized raises with the current nuts. but i had just as much fun watching the other players battle it out whenever i was not in the hand.

nice game, but very dangerous to your bankroll if you don't know how to fold preflop!
