While tossing back a couple before the start of the South Carolina/NC State game with The Mugg and JimmyMo in Seattle, I mentioned that I basically caught every break last year.  Maybe I shouldn't have said that.   I don't think I've had a single lucky cover, and a slew of bad beats.  I've lost on line moves (Texas and SDSU in Week One).  I've lost through the back door (too many to count, but Wisky week one, and UDub in week two come leaping to mind; then there's PSU and Texas ).  I've lost in impossible ways (UVa scores two td's in a minute after not sniffing the end zone all day to wreck my under).  Somehow, I've emerged from this mess down only $62.

Anyway, as Nietzsche said, that what does not kill us will only make us stronger.  With that in mind, on to Week Three (all lines BM):

Texas -16.5 vs. Texas Tech - Tech is usually good fade material on the road; UT not exactly firing on all cylinders yet, but last year's loss in scenic Lubock should get their attention.

Virginia Polytech -4 (played  at -3) vs. Nebraska - I had this at -8, and probably would have played it there too.

Mississippi State +8 at Vanderbilt - I'll bet Lindsay Lohan was just a little girl in kneepads the last time Vandy beat an SEC team by 9 points.

Army -8 (played at -7) vs. Testicle Tech - it would be impossible to have looked worse than Ball has looked thus far; Cadets a little unlucky not to be a lot closer last week

Air Force -17 (hook) at New Mexico - it would be impossible to have looked worse than the Lobos have looked thus far.

Western Michigan -17 vs. Miami University - it would be impossible to have looked worse than Miami has looked thus far.

UTEP -14 at New Mexico State - Ball, New New Mexico and Miami have looked like Florida compared to the Aggies, who nipped Prarie View last week by 3; good seats still available.

Washington +21 vs. USC - Having watched the game in the Shoe, I think it's fair to say we know who has the better offensive coodinator; don't like the early kick, or the fact that UDub gave up like 800 yards to Idaho, but I have to pick a dog every month or so.

Oklahoma -15x vs. Tulsa - Sooner lines should dominate; OU nipped a pretty good Tulsa team by 41 the last time they saw them, and that was on the road (sort of).

San Diego State -3 (hook) at Idaho - Lousy Aztec team beat them by 28 last year, and ran up 600 yards in the process; Fighting Potatoes look better, but I'm not sure it's 25 points better.

GL, all.

Good luck this week, Maine.  Down only 62 bucks this year probably puts you in the top 20 percent of cappers, with the way this year has gone so far.

I suck this year too and don't have ONE of these picks.

At least you don't have anyone beating themselves like I did for Clemson

That prolly means you are in good shape.

From one caveman looking at the stars to another

Will get our shit together eventually.

I lean to the sides you have in a few of those particularly Miss St. although a little gun shy about them after getting 2TD's last week and there inability to cover.

We see things differently in the VaTech/Nebraska game but that is going to happen over the course of the season.

Tell me you made a good bit on BYU last week, that line kinda spooked me and decided to pass.

P.S. Good to see you still have two kidneys if you are only down  $62

I think you get into positive territory this week Maine

BTW Nietzsche also said:

"And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you" Suppose he had your first two week's results in mind?

I certainly get that sense, and while I've been horribly wrong on a couple of plays (Oregon , Wazzou ), I'm probably four plays away from being nicely up for the year.  It's early, but I'm still awfully chalky.

Yes, I played BYU.  When I've won this year, it's been by 9 touchdowns.

Got a little lucky on Oregon, as I had the over for just about as much as I had the Ducks.  UO should be 0-2.

This week's slate looks very "caveman-y," but fading the dregs of the sport can't be all bad.

Maine.......I too like UTEP and Oklahoma. NMSU is just awful and there is almost no reason not to fade them against any Division 1 team.....Oklahoma in Norman vs Tulsa, I think that the Sooners have some problems and maybe they are more severe than most think but I think this line is an over-correction for the BYU loss and the loss of Bradford.....maybe I'm wrong.

Miami O is truly horrible.  I feel sorry for that qb.  He's busting his ass out there.  For nothing.  Literally, nothing.

If not for them and the suckwads from New Mexico, I would have lost the farm...or at least a tractor.

Another truly horrible team is San Jose State.  That they covered against Utah is a testament to pure home team luck.  Utah's kicker couldn't make a field goal in his dreams.  I think Stanford reams them at home.

Just a thought.  Good luck.

Vandy line keeps going up despite the Commodores' loss of a senior captain safety and an decent offensive lineman for the year.

ISU/Kent line sits at three even though Kent's Eugene Jarvis is now out for the year.  Kent without Jarvis is like a BIg Mac without the meat, and the bread.

GL my friend, like the picks, still smarting from that UW back door last week but I think this season will get better every week from here on out.
