Week 6 thoughts:

I turned down Stadium Club seats in Baton Rouge, and was actually at a Southern Culture on the Skids concert during most of the Gator game.  That's how much faith I had in my Tigers.  I believe the LSU game actually ended while there were still 8 minutes left IN THE THIRD QUARTER in Tallahassee. The games started at the same time.

Rice might not be the best football team at Rice.

If you didn't see it, Vandy tied the game at Army with a few seconds to go on a FG that ricocheted off the upright; Army won the game in OT on a FG that not only ricocheted off the same upright, but hit nearly the same spot.

Illinois offensive line blocks like they've never heard of the concept.  Perhaps they just hate both their QB's.

Is there a more bewildering team year in and year out than Maryland? They could probably beat Florida, but might lose to FAMU the next week.

If you look at the Wisconsin/Ohio State stats, it is surprising that that the Badgers didn't win, and t's incomprehensible that they also managed not to cover.

If I were a good looking QB at Ole Miss, I wouldn't pay an attention to football either.

7-4 last week, brings it to 29-25-1 for the year.   Here we go:

Southern Methodist +8 vs. Navy - USNA grads have to complete 5-years in the armed services, while SMU grads typically have to complete 6-months of substance-abuse rehab; Ponies' six-touchdown edge on the cheerleader side of the ball will be tough to overcome.

Fresno State -19 vs. San Jose State - Fresno State (the only FSU currently playing at a D-1 level) is the best team in the country that nobody thinks of as being one of the best teams in the country; this is sort of a rivalry, though I'm not sure SJSU has fans, or students.

Arkansas +24.5 at Florida - you have to think UF needs to get to near 40 to cover this; nice, early start in Gainsville means many fans will just be getting out of the local strip clubs (on both sides of the pole) by kickoff.

UCLA +3.5 vs. California - game will feature the unlikely specter of Bruin players and coaches looking at Kevin Riley and saying "If we only had that guy at quarterback..."

Utah -16.5 at UNLV - it looks like the Rebs may have decided to call it a year in, oh, October.

Georgia -7 (hook) at Vanderbilt - UGa doesn't stop anyone and will still shut out the Dores.

Army +10 at Temple - Cadets are a plucky lot; Temple's no better than Vanderbilt (I think ).

Notre Dame +10 vs. Southern California - I wonder what sartoial atrocity Charlie Weiss will commit this week: he arrived at UDub game looking like he was going to pull third shift as the ND Stadium janitor later that day.

Iowa State -2.5 vs, Baylor - Cyclones have become sneaky not awful; Bears without Griffith have to hit the road for the first time; road usually hits them.

Fishy line of the week:  Washnigton +6 at ASU

Tough game of week: Ohio -13 vs. Miami of Ohio - two pet teams I think are better than people think, playing each other.

Things you don't see every day:  Kent -6.5 (on the road, yet), and Idaho -9.5.

Thanks, lads.

I'll be back in few with a couple of totals.

yes, your pick on the ND/SC game was perhaps the least surprising news of the week.    I believe you've been calling for it since March.

I think around that time yeah, I'd say it is the least surprising news of the week.  I really think they are going to win.  Heart, and mind.

I've been calling it since Snatchez declared for the draft

Love Iowa State too...Might have to take a look at SMU.

Nice looking card - good luck!  By the way, there was a lightning delay of 45 minutes in Tallahassee on Saturday.  I thought the same thing wondering why they were reporting the score on the ticker as "Halftime" when the game in Baton Rouge was almost over.

Ah; well that explains things some.  Like I said, I was at a concert - band has at least one, and maybe two, Hokies in it by the way.

You too, brother.   I tailed a bunch of your totals, so we're in this togehter this weekend.

Call me a sucker, but I felt obligated to bet your fishy game of the week when it hit 7. Teams with an offense that bad shouldn't be TD faves, although their defense is very good.

UCLA looks like free money

Good luck this week Maine

One of the few must-reads on Covers.  Stole a couple of your picks last week.  Thanks.

UNLV looks like a very confused bunch of kids.  How many QBs you gonna play in one game?  It looked like a competition for who could throw the most picks.  Utah, on the other hand, still looks underwater.  It's as if their victory over Bama last year has left them with a sense of entitlement.  Like they can win without practicing or playing hard.  Still, they are the better team.

Was on UCLA last week and had 50 yard line buckets.  The Bruins are pathetic on offense and special teams.  Plus the much-heralded defense got shredded by Oregon's run game.  I think Cal will have real success on the ground in this one.

Like the rest.  Was already on Fresno and SMU.

Utah is hard to support as a favorite this big....although fading UNLV is probably always a solid strategy

Good luck this week. Not really eyeing up most of those games.

Only opposite with Navy... My new favorite team this season after riding them to victory last week.

Thanks guys.

I was going to post a few totals, but got a little sick and several have moved a good bit during my recovery.  I think I have UVa/MD under 50, but now it's 44   I also like Texas to stay under 52.5, though the money has moved the other way, and KU and CU to sail past 54.5 later on.  Have great days, all.
