Hey Lesnar, UFC isn't the WWE

Brock Lesnar had something to prove at UFC 100 on Saturday night. He had only been in a grand total of four UFC matches, yet he was already heavyweight champion. The critics were out there, as Lesnar certainly had an easy route to the championship. Many had thought Frank Mir should have received the tile shot against Randy Couture in UFC 91. After all, Mir defeated Lesnar just 9 months prior.

Lesnar's actions this past weekend were ludicrous. First of all, he decided not to shake Mir's hand before the fight began. Then after he defeated Mir to retain the championship, he decided to flip off the crowd for quite some time. But Lesnar didnt stop there. He then went into some tirade about how he doesn't drink Budweiser because they don't sponsor him, and how he feels so good that he might even decide to lay on top of his wife, former WWE diva Sable.

Frank Mir did say some choice words for Brock in the days prior to their fight. The gist of what he said was that the UFC is not the WWE, which is the truth. Yet, this somehow enraged Lesnar so much that he acted the way he did.

When I first saw Lesnar acting like such a buffoon, I was thinking that UFC prez Dana White was possibly pushing him to be this way, in an effort to make him look like a heel (bad guy) in pro wrestling. But after hearing how White was enraged at Lesnar's actions, I now realize that despite winning his match, that Lesnar is the biggest loser in the sport at this moment.

Lesnar is a clown.  The way he acted is sad.  This is not WWE and he should show some class and respect ex. GSP.  Martial Arts is about honor and respect not about laying on his old worn out wife, and drinking his beer in the woods. I have defended this sport for years saying how its not WWE and requires alot of talent and skill.  ESPN is only talking about Lesnars bitch fit and not the event.  Thanks Brock u set our sport back five years

"He set the sport back 5 years?" Get out of here. Thats a ridiculous statement. If anything, he's getting more attention and a bigger fan base. Maybe its not the fan base you'd like since you're better than the average WWE fan, but whatevers the case, he's making it more popular. If Lesnar keeps this up, he'll be an absolute superstar of UFC. Hell, after just a few fights, he's already being touted as a superstar.

I think its funny some of you pull the "Martial Arts is about honor and respect." Have you seen some of the guys fighting?  Sure, you have a few of them who actually respect martial arts, but most of these guys are straight knuckleheads who like to pound their fist into people. Get over the whole its about honor and respect speech.

All Dana White cares about is the popularity of the UFC and the money and fame he gets with it, he's an attention whore. Anyone watch the post fight conference? Dana starts by saying, I quote "So UFC 100 was a huge success, sell out 5.1 million at the gate, 11 thousand in attendance"

Just because he was on the record saying he was disappointed doesn't mean he wasn't behind it. Creating a monster the crowd loves to hate is a smart business move. Obviously what I have said is by no means fact but something doesn't rub me the right way about Dana.

I don't think this is as bad as everyone thinks it is. Do your really think ESPN would be talking about UFC 100 if everything went smoothly? No they didn't bring up Hendo's brutal KO or GSP's great win or even Lesnars win, they talked about his post fight antics and you know what, I don't think it's all that bad. It gave UFC some extra media coverage and kept peoples attention on the sport, which is something the UFC could use.

I thought it was hilarious.

Why is not touching gloves before the fight a big deal? If I'm not mistaken, this happens all the time. Rampage and Wand didn't do it, and I don't think Serra and Hughes did either.

I agree that Brock went overboard in the way he acted after he won, but if you are huge UFC fan you will realize that, that reaction got more attention than the frist 99 fights. All UFC fans should be happy that they have someone who is making news in the cage. It was the first highlight on sportscenter, it was talked about in every tv and radio show. UFC fans, be happy that your sport is now in the spotlight and more than just UFC fans are talking about it.

Like Wilt Chamberlain once said while taking a break from nailing three women at the same time, "Nobody roots for Goliath".

Lesnar is the best thing that could have happened to the UFC - especially a heavyweight division that lacked a face. No one likes a dominant big man with a swagger. Everyone wants to see them fall. Well, MMA fans could be holding their collective breath for a while - or at least until Dana White and Fedor clear the air and get something on paper.

His actions and comments threw gas on that fire last Saturday. I think it's great. If they won't love you, make them them hate you. The worst thing anyone can be is vanilla.

@ DTHER

ESPN def showed Hendos KO about a million times.

I think J_Logan hit it pretty well on the head. Dana White should be thanking Brock for his "in the moment" actions. Without Brock acting the way he did, UFC 100 would be talked about for about 24hrs and that's all. Seeing that we are all still clearly talking about it, it's in the public eye.

And even bad press is better than no press.
