it's sad that it happened, but it wasn't like the cops came into the house and shot the dog while it was sleeping. stuff like this happens everyday. the fact that the child has problems shouldn't make the situation any different than if he was perfectly fine.

Mr.Win, my issue with this is the fact that someone went out of their way to point out that this was an autistic kid's therapy dog(whatever that is) when in reality it shouldn't have mattered at all who's dog it was.

I can't condone shooting a dog 5 times for no reason though.

as a dog owner myself, I hope that justice is served int the end.

im in the uk and im glad are police dont have guns, the policeman who done this must be some kind of half wit, i hope he gets fired

also my son has autism and the damage done to this kid by seeing this happen will never go away ever, this is shocking,i do feel for the family because this event will never go away

and dont you people in states get worried that you have half wits in uniforms running around with guns or is that just the way in the states

What i dont get is:

if a civilian kills or hurts a police dog , extreme punishment will be administered.

if a police officer kills or hurts a civilians dog, its just an animal.

Very sad.  Unfortunately, I can't say I'm surprised.  Five of the dumbest kids I went to high school with became cops.  I still can't believe they carry guns everyday.

Same as if a cop gets killed its just a tad more important than any one else.

As a father with an autistic son. I would have went ape shit.

This dog changed the boys life for the better. Helped with his sleeping immediately. Probably took some pressure off the parents especially the mother. Now this kid will go back to square one. NOT good thing at all.

That cock sucker should be fired and catch a beaten. Also the Animal Control should have to pay for the new dog and it's training. Not sure if it is covered for the family.

That cop is a straight-up coward

Officers were in my opinion not prepared for the call. Dog on premises? Autistic child? Possibly registered dog for this particular child? Animal control on scene or dispatched? Geezus criste.

All of this arrives at the department and dispatch as to how they handled the call.

Outrageous lack of preparation. Above are correct (I'll assume they are), then these officers no longer are on the police force. The department will pay an enormous amount of money.

Brutal! That shit would never happen up here in Canada or be extremely rare. Your cops seem too gun happy. So sad!

I dont know the full facts but Im inclined to think the cop made a poor decision.  Nonetheless look at the facts that are know.
1)Part rotweiller....great breed but also loyal and a bit scary
2)complaint about a 10 yr old nipped and scared by the dog...???LEASHES HELP THIS
3) cops at your house....kids open door.....dog out barking/potentially looking scary
4) id be surprised if the owner wasnt being nice to the cops and then suddenly the loose beast comes out.

i feel bad for the family and i bet the cop could have handled it better but the whole picture is probably less cut and dry.

the autism issue is for sympathy.  a dead family pet would hurt my kids pretty damn hard too....and it has.  the real issue is was it legal and the folllowing issue is whether it was the right thing to do.  i suspect it was a legal shooting that should have been handled better.
