Future bet: WNBA-2013 title

Let's follow StraightWagers' lead and get a discussion going on the current chances of teams to win WNBA title this season:

+230 Minnesota
+300 Chicago
+480 Los Angeles
+480 Atlanta
+550 Phoenix
+1400 Indiana

Frankly, no other team has a snowball's chance in hell this year. Or do they?

Moving to Paradise

So... I'm about to take off to Thailand. Life is cheap there, weather at least as tolerable as in Europe (or rather, part of Europe I'm able to currently afford to live in) and, as my main income comes from translating and creative advertising, I'm lucky to never have to 'be at the office' - except at my Internet-connected laptop.

I'm in the research stage now. Reading blogs, making connections. Unfortunately, I haven't found anyone yet who gambles a lot and can confirm how to go about making online wagers/playing poker from within Thailand.

The only piece of news which is confirmed is, disturbingly, that Betfair refuses login attempts from within the country.

So my question to anyone who visited Thailand no later than 2012 or better yet lives there fulltime, is this:

Is this country strictly against gambling? Do their laws cover Thai citizens or is online betting outlawed for expats as well? Of course, if it's as bad as I fear it is, I would love to get some feedback on how to overcome the government-imposed barriers and continue to wager at Pinnacle with an occasional Pokerstars tournament to spice up a slow week in the Paradise.

Thanks a lot for all your comments; I hope this thread will put my mind at ease and make moving a no-brainer. According to the numbers I've run, I should spend much less living in Thailand - and that's great for my bankroll

A kickass wager #1

Porto have undergone a major overhaul in the offseason. It would be a mistake to gauge this team's chances against the always potent Shakhtar's attack based on their performance last season.

Most important offseason moves

http://www.wnba.com/transactions/WNBA_2011.html

Cappie Pondexter and Candice Dupree  were the most influential player switching teams a year ago.

Who is it this year? Katie Smith (15.2 PPG, to Seattle)? Tangela Smith (11.5 PPG, to Indiana)? Marie Ferdinand-Harris (10.2 PPG, to Phoenix)? Nakia Sanford (6.6 PPG, to Phoenix)?

Phoenix retained their starting four (Dupree-Taurasi-Taylor-Johnson) who have on average 6.5 years of WNBA experience each. They added Sanford at center, who is a veteran player herself (8 years). Plus Marie Ferdinand-Harris (9 years). Plus Kara Braxton (6 years) who obviously was added before the offseason and even played in the WC finals vs Seattle, but now she's had a proper training camp with the team.

To me, this team looks loaded and worth a shot at +900 to win it all. Obviously, Seattle looks attractive as well at +300... but price differential of 3/1 makes me like Taurasi & Co. better every time I think about it.

Friday LIVE thread (cash prize inside)

I'm starting what should become a 20 page long live thread.

I will pay $15 to anyone who
- makes a great pick (both favorites and underdogs may apply),
- posts a great 'inside type' info (such as the malisse mother's disease) - obviously, before the lines are OTB for the relevant match, or
- just makes the best joke or posts a great - tennis-related - picture that makes me smile.

Yes, I will be the one to decide who wins and when. Yes, I am THIS vain. And yes, I actually think this might work, since - not many realize this - there are 50 times more lurkers than posters on this forum (hello Mack and TennisCapper :)

P.S. Anyone who posted/lurked the WNBA forum last season might remember MuggsyBogues' Exact Score Contest. I ended up paying out over $350 to the prize winners - Bucheron666, rhino5542 and boyboy. I'm good for the money. $15 is definitely worth being an author of the greatest f*cking tennis thread of the week.

Payment to be made via moneybookers or pokerstars/fulltiltpoker transfer no later than WCOOP event #1 on Pokerstars kicks off on Monday.

MuggsyBogues WNBA Exact Score Contest - Day 15

Day 14 Summary
:

Games Played: 5
Participants: 6
Total predictions: 25
Points awarded: 0

Play of the Day: Tie between suco42 and rhino5542 whose picks for Minnesota@San Antonio (85-87) and (83-87) were both real close to the actual (82-84) scoreline. The kicker to the story? It took the teams two overtimes to get close to our top tipsters' predictions. Try harder next time Silver Stars!

Scoreboard:
1. 3 pts (0-1-23) rhino5542 (Day 4, Conn-NY 74-69, pick 74-68)

MuggsyBogues WNBA Exact Score Contest - Day 7

Day 6 Summary:

Games Played: 3
Participants: 3
Total predictions: 9
Points awarded: 0

Play of the Day: Washington Mystics who I ended up taking to win, just before gametime, at +270. Look for the obvious bets, and take the opposite! The Mystics Catenacco (also known as anti-soccer, or in our case, anti-basketball) put a smile on my face at the end of a very very long betting week.

DAY 7

Saturday 22 August (times ET)

7:00 PM MIN (+4.5) @ CONN 158.5
8:00 PM DET (+3) @ Chicago 147.0

MuggsyBogues WNBA Exact Score Contest - Day 5

Day 4 Summary:

Games Played: 2
Participants: 4
Total predictions: 7 (rod_steel picked one game, apparently wanting to have the highest winning percentage once he heats up )
Points awarded: 3

Play of the Day: This has to be divided between Pinnacle sports... (who had both of my Conn-NY bets pushed. -5 cancelled, O 143 cancelled. How often does this happen?!?)... and rhino5542, who picked this game nearly to perfection, 74-68.

rhino5542 gets on the scoreboard, just 4 game days into the contest - keep it up!

DAY 5

Thursday 20 August

SA @ ATL (-2.5) u/o 165
IND (-6.5) @SAC u/o 148.5

Leaderboard:
rhino5542 - 3 pts (0-1-2)*

Reminder: to score in the Contest, you must pick the score exactly, for 10 pts, or miss by a single point, for 3 pts.

*total three picks, zero 10 pt scores, one 3 pt scores, two misses... it's an exceptional record

Action needed against estes/mrbator spammers... read

I'm fed up with the little idiot(s) who are fed up with this forum's best cappers success, and continously spam the threads.

Since moderators are often slow to react, I propose action is taken by forum regulars (like myself) who benefit from great picks provided by covers forums free of charge.

I'm willing to dedicate 30 minutes of my time, every day, for the next two weeks, doing whatever needs to be done.

I am thinking creating new email boxes on gmail/yahoo servers and sending dozens/hundreds of emails to the blog support and/or sales department. They do get customers, and my idea is to make them sift through 95% of spam to actually get to an email written by a sucker who wants to give them their money.

This must be a concerted effort. I need more volunteers. I'd also like some ideas on how to make this attack most efficient possible.

I want to shut the f*****s down.

MuggsyBogues WNBA Exact Score Contest - Day 1

Hello, and welcome to the Contest!

Rules are simple:
1) Pick as many games as you want, but only one score per game
2) Only post once in a daily thread - if you post more than once, I will only count a winner if it is contained within the first post
3) If you have correctly picked the exact score in the past week, post that score with your daily picks... Doing so will qualify you for the Jackpot!

Scoring system:
10 pts for exact score
3 pts for exact score 'plus minus 1'

Example: last night Chicago beat New York 88-77. If you picked just that, 88-77, you get 10 pts. If you picked 89-77, 87-77, 88-76 or 88-78, you get 3 pts.

This contest will run from tonight until WNBA season is over.

Prize money:
$100 to best score at the end of the season
$30 for 2nd
$20 for 3rd
and
$100 jackpot to whoever manages to pick scores of two games correctly within one week (sunday to saturday, thursday to wednesday, etc)

Announcement: WNBA Exact Score Contest

Guys, I fell in love with suco's idea of predicting exact scores of basketball games. I'm going to be doing this for the rest of the season.

To make things interesting, I'd like some company. I am going to run a thread similar to the MLB 'best bet of the day' thread. I sure hope it will not get as popular - I have no interest to get over a 100 applications. But anything around 30-40 regulars I believe I can handle, since WNBA only has so many games, and exact scores are that much tougher to pick.

Starting some time soon (no later than Monday Aug 17th) and ending with the last game of the WNBA playoffs, I'll post a thread named 'MuggsyBogues WNBA Pick-a-Score Contest'. Every day there is at least one WNBA game, there will be a thread. At least twice a week (ideally, or with some help from one of you, surely), these will be updated before the next game day begins.

I'd like to ask for suggestions as far as rules/scoring system for this contest. What I have in mind is this: pick as many games as you want on any given night, and get 10 points for exact score, and 3 points for any game where you guessed one exact team total, and missed the other team total by 1.

2-3 weeks into the contest, leaderboard would look like this:
player x: 1-2-10, 16 pts
player y, 0-1-14, 3 pts
player z, 0-1-16, 3 pts

Obviously, early entry and regular participation is a good idea, since scoring will NOT be a daily or weekly thing. I estimate that three exa... [More]
