Guys, I fell in love with suco's idea of predicting exact scores of basketball games. I'm going to be doing this for the rest of the season.
To make things interesting, I'd like some company. I am going to run a thread similar to the MLB 'best bet of the day' thread. I sure hope it will not get as popular - I have no interest to get over a 100 applications. But anything around 30-40 regulars I believe I can handle, since WNBA only has so many games, and exact scores are that much tougher to pick.
Starting some time soon (no later than Monday Aug 17th) and ending with the last game of the WNBA playoffs, I'll post a thread named 'MuggsyBogues WNBA Pick-a-Score Contest'. Every day there is at least one WNBA game, there will be a thread. At least twice a week (ideally, or with some help from one of you, surely), these will be updated before the next game day begins.
I'd like to ask for suggestions as far as rules/scoring system for this contest. What I have in mind is this: pick as many games as you want on any given night, and get 10 points for exact score, and 3 points for any game where you guessed one exact team total, and missed the other team total by 1.
2-3 weeks into the contest, leaderboard would look like this:
player x: 1-2-10, 16 pts
player y, 0-1-14, 3 pts
player z, 0-1-16, 3 pts
Obviously, early entry and regular participation is a good idea, since scoring will NOT be a daily or weekly thing. I estimate that three exact scores will be sufficient to take the title. I'm also going to reserve the right to not accept contest entries from posters with less than x total posts, to weed out the idiots. People who use jargon like 'beaverball', 'c*ntball' will NOT be welcome!!!
I'm putting up $100 prize for the best tipster by the end of the contest. Also, there will be a jackpot prize of another $100, which will be awarded to the person who picks two exact scores within one week. Jackpot money will be awarded within 24 hours after the second game is over.
Why am I doing this? Because posters from covers (estes1717, 44dimes, MrBator, pineappleexpress et al) made me a lot of cash. Because WNBA forum could use a little more activity. Because I feel like it. Because it's MY MONEY and I'll burn it the way I want to!!!
Entry is free. If contest has success, it will start early next year, have better rules/scoring system, much larger prize pool, and perhaps an entry fee.
Oh, about that. I'm new on covers. To ensure I am serious, I'd like someone like rod_steel (a legend, all-star, etc) to keep the $200 until it's payable to the winners. If you have 10,000+ posts, and able to accept a moneybookers transfer, or a p2p transfer on Pokerstars/FullTilt Poker, please post here, we'll discuss and I'll ship the cash. You can then make a note in my first Contest thread, guaranteeing the money will be paid as advertised.
I've had a profitable betting night, despite some of the best of Covers losing money, and Phoenix game ending 0.5 pt UNDER when I had the OVER. Good thing about this forum - for every good capper who might lose on any given day, there are two good cappers who will bail you out.
If my initiative gets more people digging into stats, watching more games, discussing, and making more cash off of WNBA - I will consider this a resounding success.
