Hey guy's I made a decent amount of money last season with 10 point teasers hitting my first 9 then 5 straight after that only lost 6 all season. So what im going to do is post all my 3 team 10 point teasers this year on Twitter. Your free to ride with me if you want or fade me if you so choose. You can follow me at,troubletone@twitter.com if you follow me ill be sure to follow you back. For anyone who is interested Im looking forward to discussing games and picks via twitter, predictions and so forth. I think this is a great way for those of us who are serious about NFL and CFB to keep eachother informed so we can all beat the bookie. Here's a sample of my first teaser going by the  lines currently out GB+ 11, OAK+ 17, and MIA+ 7 $600 to win $500 could change by the start of the season but rightnow Im really likeing this. Later fellas and good luck on the season.

I do like these 10 pt teasers, decent pay-out, and you're not picking a actual winner. Like ATL+10, Miami +7 and Washington +13 or so, this way you can take Dallas if you're still playing to win both of them. I am making 2 parlays, those same 2 teams in both, then Wash in 1 and Dallas in 1

Gotta find good spots with these, just like any bet.  I usually like the double-digit underdogs and tacking 10-points onto them.  Those dogs are usually inflated anyway, e.g. all the Patriots' opponents a couple seasons ago.

teasers are for fools! what is the matter buddy to scared to bet on the real line? needing 3 games to hit instead of one and you are laying more juice.
RAIDR4life says:
07/13/10 07:47PM
To each his own but, Im a fool who made $9750 my on teasers alone, plus I dont strictly bet teasers I use 3 books one of which I bet strictly my teasers with because the juice is -120 intead of -130. Ill be looking to double the winnings this season. So goodluck even to the haters.
HeadOverHeart says:

For being a "Professional" you surely can't be serious here.  If you were, you'd know that many "professional" bettors love the 2-team, 6-point NFL teaser.  Out of all non straight wager plays, the books lose the most off of this bet type.  For example, taking a 7-point dog and giving him 13 or a 7-point favorite down to a -1 pick 'em is a powerful tool to use in the right spots.

michael550 says:
07/14/10 12:50AM

thats a horrible bet. you get better lines and better odds by doing a two team money line parlay instead of teasing 2 favorites down from -7 to -1

RAIDR4life says:
07/14/10 03:32AM
Your wrong if you take two 7pt favorites on a moneyline parlay, team A will be roughly -325, team B is also -325 if you wager $500 you will get back roughly $888 which is a $388 profit take those same two teams on a 6pt teaser wagering $500 you will get back 954 a profit of $454 not a huge difference but definately not better odds.
HeadOverHeart says:

My example was just that, an example.  2-team, 6-point teasers can be applied to any line you feel have value, even totals, but most often applied to gamelines, not totals.

And yes, Raidr4life is right, ML'ing two 7-point favs will not bring back as much as teasing them down 6.  Besides, in my example, I teased one up to 13.

Don't bash it.  Give it a look this season.  I have won more than I have lost with this strategy.  You can normally always find two team lines you like a week for the NFL.  Add the 6-points onto them and make them sweeter.  Sure, you can also just parlay the two lines without teasing, but the added security of the 6 points greatly reduces mooses and the house advantage.

Try it this season and see how it works for you.  BTW...don't cross zero with this strategy.
RAIDR4life says:

Exactly you can add points to the underdog which can give you a real advantage in tight division rivalry games.

why do people on this site feel the need to mock somebody else's system?  If it works for the guy, good for him.

I do the occasional 3 teamer and a lot of times they are laughers because I tend to do the "overs" for the games. A lot of times they hit it by halftime or early in the 3rd.

Of course if they were that easy, everyone would be doing it on a regular basis and making tons of money. But of course we all know there is no bullet proof system.............

I play a lot of teasers and have been very successful with them, however I would never tease a line of say +4 to +14, because at my book, and most books, the push is a loss. So you have to hope that line goes to +4.5 to bet it up to +14.5, otherwise, find another game.

I tend to bet lines rather than teams too.

Thanks for the thread, guys.

I am a fan of 10-point pleasers, and it's always interesting to hear your opponent's thought process.

I'm a little surprised that no one mentioned magic numbers.  Of course, it's kind of hard not to cross any magic numbers with a 10-point teaser.  It can be done, though, and it does make a difference--on average.

On average, 23% of NFL games end up >10 points from the line in a particular direction.  Thus a 10-point teaser will win ~77% (per team) of the time if you pick games at random.  For a 3-team 10-pointer, you'll win 46% of the time.  If you're book pays out -120, you'll need to hit 55% of the time.  You need to make up that difference with handicapping.  I'm sure there are people who are capable of this, but it's a much steeper uphill battle than laying -105, or even -110 on the good-old 0-point teaser.

By using magic numbers, you can make up most of that ground.  For example, if the line is between -4 and -5.5, a 10-point teaser on the favorite will hit 82% of the time.  At 82% per game, your chances of hitting 3 out of 3 are 55%--exactly what you need to break even on average without handicapping at all.  Thus by restricting your 3-team 10-point teaser picks to games with a line of 4.5, you lower the bar you need to clear with your handicapping to nothing.

I realize that this is an impractical example, because you're not going to find three games with 4 to 5.5-point lines most weeks in the NFL.  You certainly won't find 3 sides you like within that range of spreads on any given week.  However, this analysis can be extended to other point spreads, as well.  The bottom line is that the margin of victory is going to be 3 or 7 a lot more frequently than any other number.  Using this to your advantage will make your handicapping a whole lot easier.

I have been doing 4 team 13 point teasers since the early 1990s...

I saw more success in the 1990s and as the 2000s went on the teasers seemed to lose value...

I attribute it to style of play resulting in everyone running a spread/run and shoot/empty set, passing offense...

I make a thread every week in the NFL season documenting my picks and record...

Lippsman has a history of NFL teasers and usually makes the best play based on numbers using 6,6.5,7 and 10 point teasers...

Strongsafety has history of playing 10 team 20 point teasers...

I would be interested to see how you match up with the established teaser people on the site...

I have recently broken about even the last few seasons, so I am interested to see if you are able to duplicate your success...

6-point pleasers on 3 or 4-point dogs are awesome.

If you think the +3 or +4 dog wins the the game outright, and you can find two of them.......please it to -3 or -2 and if they win by 3 or 4....you cash in on +500 or +600.

As with anything, find the right situation, the right spot....for the proper value.

Was thinking about teasing 3 totals down with a 10 point teaser. I know that some of these preseason games have a tendency to be low scoring, but teasing three that I like to go over initially down to the low 20's seems like it would have a good chance to hit.

I'm not the biggest fan of teasers, esp. in week 1 (no one really knows how good or bad teams are yet), but if you must play, pick those teams that figure to be good as low fave or low underdog and figure to be in low scoring games.  Packers, Ravens, Chargers, Bengals - which of these teams if they lose, do they lose by more than a FG?  Someone tell me.  In teasers, every bet often looks good.  I agree with "best value" in teasers is crossing BOTH 3 point (as fave and dog) if you can.  But again, I don't like teasers that much, all those teams are playing on the road in their season opener, one might come out not ready to play.

I ended up losing money last year with these types of wagers, not much because the season came to an end and I started late. The reason for the losses was a combination of early success and the "kid in the candy shop" type of feeling it created. This year I'll stick with proper money management.

The spread in NFL games doesn't even make a difference in majority of games. I tracked this over the last 3 seasons and on average 2 games a week did the spread come into effect. The high was 4 games, but not very often.

Would never come into a thread and talk smack after the games have been played.  I just didn't read this until this morning. I don't play a lot of teasers. When I do, It's usually my favorite 3 straight bets. If I am confident they have enough value to bet straight up, why not take a chance on a 3 teamer for the hell of it.  It is also usually a smaller amount wagered than my straight bets!

Coming from a guy who said he's done 4-team, 13-point teasers for 20 years.

The line in NFL games are off by 6 or more points on a ton of games every week.  All you have to do is find two of them and you 5x or 6x your money.

To extoll 4-team, 13-point teasers and then come and bash me for saying 6-point pleasers also are a good spot option is RIDICULOUS.

Not trying to be a hater here...but teasers are...well teases!

They look good and give you a false sense of security, but why do you think the book offers them?  For your benefit?  I think not, to line there pockets and to put more juice on your wagers and to trap people into betting them.  The people who create these new bets (which was teasers 15 years ago or so) have crunched the numbers over and over again and they now they have a stronger edge or else they wouldn't offer them.

The NFL is tought to play on and anyone can win so i think ML is very the value is at, getting juice not giving.

Not trying to hate, gl to all no matter what you bet of choice is!

It's not absolutely horrible... I had the Packers pending my first ever large 10pt teaser and I felt comfortable with the +7 points.

Adding this early because I LOVE early lines:

3/4 rotation, 4 bets of $250 to win $200

Steelers +8.5
Saints -3.5
Rams +11
Jets +5

and all 4 teams on a 12 pointer, $1000 to win $750

I don't normally do teasers but I've seen someone doing well on them consistantly so I start looking more closely this season. You need more patience in finding good spots for them and I wouldn't recommend them on CFB because the scores tend to be more out of whack.

WHY DOES NOBODY MENTION THAT 10-PT HAVE ONE SPECIAL SUCKER ATTRIBUTE????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TIES LOSE!!!!!!!

You post all these lines and add 10 points to them, of course they look good.  If one of the 3 games in your teaser ties, you lose.

SPORTSBOOKS LOVE IT WHEN YOU BET 10-pt TEASERS.

shudawg says:

I like 6pt teasers much better than I do 10pt teasers.

There is always that third game that either screws it up, or makes me sweat bullets.  With a two team tease, the odds are better, imo.

I like taking -7 and -6 lines to -1, PK, even -8 down to -2.

I try not to "cross" zero.  So no -3 to +3 type stuff.  I might go -5 to +1.

I like to keep the teasers limited to POINT SPREAD ONLY!

No over/under teasers.  6 points is A LOT when dealing with a 10 point spread (one team).  When dealing with TWO TEAMS total score, 6 or even 10 points is not all that much.

The value seems to be better sticking with strictly the spread.

I think this year I will try and play more money line parlays.

I would like to find a site that has money line odds for college games - not just the -7 money lines, but like a -2000 type ML for a team giving up -22.  Bet a three team parlay and it will pay off OK with very minimal risk.

ALSO a problem I have run across with me and my friends is we will try and "force" teasers.  There might be a game at 3:30 that has a -8 spread (after 6pt tease -2), and we will "force" it trying to find  another 3:30 game to pair with it.

Well we didn't know until last year we could make our 3:30 teaser and leave the other half "open," as long as it was filled (if the first half won) by the end of the week (Monday night game).

So all that time we would force our tease not knowing we could leave it open.

Now I will find a game, tease it, leave the other half open, and be patient over the weekend until I find another game with the line sitting at -5 to -8 (+1 to -2 after teased).

Most of my consistent success comes from teasers.  I will get hot and cold on straight plays, but with teasers, I hit at a decent rate throughout the year.
shrynn says:
09/13/10 07:54AM
Another thing I'm noticing is that if you look for situations, it can help you decide whether or not to play a teaser on a side or not. For instance, in NCAAF if you went back and broker down every 2009 game, you would find that teams with a spread of from 10.5 to 13.5 points with a posted total of 40.5 to 45 hit their 6.5 point teasers at a rate of 88.33 percent. I didn't research anything other than 6.5 point teasers, but this gives a nice idea of ONE of the lines and spread totals to keep an eye out for. I may end up doing a spreadsheet for the other teaser amounts eventually but since the lower amounts pay a little better, those were what I concentrated on. (Those figures were from 2009). Conversely, if you have a spread of -.5 to -3 with a total of 45 or higher, the 6.5 point teasers only cover 38.88% of the time. Nice way to lose some cash. Delving into other years now along with this year, but I suggest research rather than a line that simply "looks" good. Will alos eventually do this for the pros as well but since I've never been a big teaser player, these are a little lower priorities. Working on halftime results and 2H over/unders right now. Slow process but some interesting results. Backtesting takes a lot of time. It's not that cut and dried but it sometimes shows a good indicator when other things point you in the direction of certain teasers in NCAA or certain halftime lines in the NFL. I'll run higher point teasers and pleasers eventually but probably later in the season. Best of luck with it.

When you start betting for profit instead of fun, you take the smart bets when you can.  As soon as you start trying to prove ball mass, you lose wallet mass.
