i dont like getting into exact dollar amounts on here, but i was down roughly half of what my usual per game bet was this week, well just say it was more then 100 bucks and less then 500.  i had been up before with the guy and if it was less then 1000, i would tell him to just let it ride.  so anyways, i talk to him and said ill just start down x amount for next week, im going to be busy with christmas shit all week.  he says "no, you gotta pay this week or ill cut you off."  not a problem i have the money, just think it was kinda stupid that he wouldnt let it slide for a week when he knows its not even what i would put on a game.  im not really used to dealing with bookies, maybe this is standard, i really couldnt tell you, but i just think its kinda lame.

He's running a business, people not settling up could disrupt his cash flow.

its probably because of the holiday season.  the same thing happened to me this week too.  usually anything under $500 would be nothing for him to pick up, the money just rolls over.

try to come up with a number (such as 300) and up or down when you hit that number square up.

the public has been doing well the past few months and the bookies are hurting for money. It is not just your bookie, must in the business are owing more than they are taking in. Bookies aren't smart so they don't leave themselves a cushion for when the roles reverse. Bottom line bookies in general are trying to collect every dollar that is owed to them.

That's a good laugh. Smarter than you think. He maybe getting killed and guys coming up short. You should always have the terms set before a situation arises. Most will be okay with setting up a dollar limit to pay and collect.

Run for the hills. He's paying the winners with the losers' money. Find a bookie or offshore book that is actually funded and can pay even if all their players stiff.

That is a joke of a bookie if he is making players settle under 500.

I've dealt with both types.  One guy I was with had a $100 cushion.  Another said he wanted to settle up even if it was just $10 either way.  I think it's just dependent upon how well they know you, how tight their cash is, their philosophy, etc.  I wouldn't sweat it either way.  Like any business deal, set up the terms in advance and then stick to them - it keeps both parties happy.

I owed a book $3200........forgot to pay him.  Been 25 years now.

Don't pay him and move on to another book.  If he's hurting that bad for a 1 unit payout, then he probably has money problems beyond what you owe him.  Just look at the money you stiff him as severance pay for dealing with someone who can't run a proper book.  What's he gonna do, they all talk a lot of shit about collecting, but let's face maybe 1 in 50 books are remotely connected or have guys collect, it's part of the business and they know it.

pay the man his money.

Get paid when you are up.  He has winners to pay---why should he float you?

why bet if you don't have the money?  you are asking for it!  there are guys out there that don't give a shit and need the money.  this is bad advise.  pay up your locals and move on.

Sounds like you didn't have the deal worked out ahead of time as far as the carry figures go. This should be done the first few weeks that you deal  with him. If you let your money  carry before that shouldn't matter because guys  pull that shit all of the time. When they are down like $5 K they say "can't you carry it because I let you carry $800 before?". Bookies get stiffed all of the time and this guy is probably doing well right now with all of the dogs coming in on the NFL, and he may be trying to prevent a small problem from  becoming a big problem. BTW players  pull this stuff all of the time around  holidays and it is hard for books to collect right now, and anyonecollecting will want to be paid super-fast, so he may be pissed about that too and trying to prevent it...

Local books suck.  They cry like little babies when you beat them.

I hit a 4-team parlay for $1000, he cried like a bitch.  He tells me, "no more parlays".  I'm like, what kind of pussy bookie are you?  First off, you only paid me 10 to 1 odds.  Usually pays 12 to 1.

Local books suck.

try another wk. and see if anything changes. Then lose that jackenheimer! Plenty of locals out there, or go online.
