Locks for NFL Week 8

You can't beat yourself up over the bet you didn't make. At least that's what I tell people.

It’s just like poker; you have to forget about the hand you folded. Otherwise, you’ll eat a hole in your stomach agonizing over “what could have been.”

But I'm having a hard time accepting my advice this week.

I had two outstanding wagers that hinged on the Ravens winning, not covering, Monday night (only one posted). I could have hedged by putting $50 on the Jags +450 moneyline. If they won I would’ve lost five bucks. If they lost I would’ve won $125.

I’m the ordinary bettor so of course I didn’t hedge. And now I can’t seem to let it go because I was so close to being sharp that day. I knew the Jags had a chance, which is why I teased in the first place, but I didn’t have the balls to back them.

And then there were the two team totals I didn’t play, and of course both won. It was my first losing week in awhile so maybe that’s why these stung a little more.

Moving on…I think I’m going to have a lot of plays this week, which always scares me. But the last time I did I went 5-1 and last week I was 1-2 so maybe it’s a good thing. We shall see.

I posted my first two plays of the week in Monday’s column: Bills -4 (-120), Panthers -3 (-120).

Buffalo is coming off a bye and the Redskins are without Timmy Hightops and Moss. Even with those two on the field I would have still played the Bills at this number. I do respect the Redskins defense but it struggles against quick passing attacks. It did with the Eagles and it will Sunday.

A battle of the rookies goes down in Charlotte. I do like what I saw out of Ponder last week but Ron Ron will find a way to force him into a few mistakes. AP is probably going run for two bills but he put up 175 last week and they still lost. Sir Newton played his best game of the season last week and is only getting better.

That’s the only two bets I’ve placed thus far. There will be more. I have an eye on a ton of team totals and I’m also leaning Giants, Seahawks and Chiefs.

Be sure to check the comment section for added plays, if you’re loony enough to follow a writer’s picks.

If you’re down with the social media clown find me on Twitter or Facebook.

I know, I know. That is about as square as square gets. I just think these are some major mismatches. Feeley is starting again and the 'Phins locker room is starting to divide.

If anyone is interested here's a radio interview I did with former MLB player Eric Byrnes. We chat about the NFL and Week 8 matchups: http://knbrsportsphone680.blogspot.com/2011/10/1025-scott-cooley-on-sportsphone-680.html

I like the under on Vikings game and think Vikings D can stop Cam Newton. I write a blog on ChiefsCommand.com It would be cool to do a interview with you. My column is about basic betting strategies. Hit me up on twitter @mobstersgear. Love the teaser action

Can't argue with any of those bets forty9ers. Only one I would hesitate about is the Lions. I think they get back on track but it just smells like a fishy line. Good luck.

Jared Allen and Brian Robison are certainly going to try and disrupt Newton, and there's a chance they will. What I liked from last week was that he was sacked four times by the 'Skins in the first half but none in the second even though Jim Haslett kept dialing up the blitz. He adjusted and beat it.

I'd be happy to do an interview for the blog. Love the home page subheading, can't stand Rivers. Chiefs have been impressive lately, hope they can keep it up on Halloween.

I don't like laying a lot of points and I don't like doubling up on the G-Men (already have them in teaser). But I was already leaning their way heavily and Daniel Thomas being out put me over the edge.

Nice hit niner. Good thing you waited.

Bloodbath today all, really sorry if you followed. Will be commenting on agony in Monday's column, had a couple of crappy beats, and bets.

Hopefully the Cowboys defense can salvage the day.

Added play for NFL Week 8: Eagles TT U26 (+105)
ScottCooley says:

Titans TT loss should have been -115

I want to extend a sincere apology to those who followed me this week. I really do feel bad when people lose money on my behalf. That’s why I don't endorse my picks and that's why I was never a good salesman.

Nessa says:

No need to apologize, it was on your best intention to release plays and help people out, I believe everyone comes around here to hear 'the two versions of the story' like to see who agrees with the plays they already got, or who doesn't and why, few times though, will they really change their minds, I'm sure you don't need this advise since i'm pretty certain you've been on the road for long, but in my opinion, even as you went ahead and teased the plays, that was alot of chalk.
Nessa says:
10/31/11 06:17AM
Oh and by the way, you will get back on your feet with that Kansas +4 play, take care.
ScottCooley says:
10/31/11 10:35AM
Appreciate the words Nessa. Teasing all that chalk was a bad idea. I just got greedy this week and wanted to go all out. Discipline was lacking. Hope the Chiefs can help me out but I'm not so sure anymore.

Takin sd-3 tonight should be a close game but I think sd will win and cover
