Tenn ML to the bank.  Steelers record last year vs. teams above .500 is dismal.  They were lucky not to face tenn at home last year in playoffs.  The steelers should not have one the SB last year.  Tenn will do the same as they did last year.  Run straight at them.  Be weary of taking the under.... this like taking pitt is a sucker bet.   This game opened right up last year.  I made 10,000 dollars off tenn. last year and look for the same consistency in a well coached deep team.  Feel free to tease this game with others.

Preseason sucks, baseball sucks too.

cant wait for thursday

Hmm.....

Interesting. The Titans were the first team to gain 300 yards vs. the Steelers in 2008. The game that secured home-field.

Why cant they do it again?

No Haynesworth? no problem. He wasnt there during the victory.

I dont wanna go against Pitt....their defense might make me eat my words and money. Not ready for a pick yet.

Tennessee is 12-4-1 ATS in its last 17 games

Tennessee is 6-2 ATS in its last 8 games on the road

Anyone else want to get on the train of betting against tenn.?   They are not my pick to make the super bowl, but they were the MOST consistent team last year, with little love.

Tenn lost ONE game last year by more than one point.  Lost one game by 1 point at week 16 finish.  week 17 a meaningless game was used to rest for playoffs.

The stomping of stupid yellow towels does not make grown men play differently.

I am also leaning on tenn. teaser with baltimore and pats at home.

Cry babies?  Whats there to cry about, we keep winning Super Bowls and people like you keep crying about it.  As far as the bet goes, I probably would agree and take the 5 points but I think the Steelers win.
WinsRUs says:

I respectfully disagree with the most of you.

The Steelers have upgraded in the running game with Rashard Mendenhall and a 5-10 240lbs running back with Frank Summers. Plus the Titans have lost a key member on their defense with Albert Haynesworth gone. Plus, I don't think that the Titans can withstand the Steelers defense. Lamar Woodley, Troy Polamalu and James Harrison are just to much for the Titans offense.

The Steelers D was virtually #1 in every category.

So it's clear to me the Steelers will win. They are the classiest team in the NFL. Unlike the Titans. They stomped on the Terrible Towel after the won against them. And, Im 100% that makes the Steelers players steaming mad. So that's how I look at it. It's my opinion and everyone is entitled one.

My Titans WILL win !!!
PrimeTimeBoys says:

The coaching edge goes to the Titans, but I see the Steelers winning this one 27-13. You've made points on how well the Titans did last year, but just like you said, it was last year!

Opening up the season at Heinz Field vs the Super Bowl Champs is not a good idea for the Titans, especially how they acted after beating the Steelers last year in the regular season.

That is bulletin board material & these guys havent forgotten about it!

Take the points. Tenny will cover the spread and the OVER. Be careful with the money line. I could see a 3 point win by those pesky Steelers.

Guys, It's the freak'in opening day of the greatest sport on earth, anything is possible. The Steeler's have no running attack. Hines Ward hasn't been the same since week 12 last season when she hurt her wittle finger and got hit by that mean defense. Chris Brown is just chomping at the chance to rush for 230 yds against an overrated old secondary.Scooby doo polomaloo will get runover bt L.white if C Brown don't stay in the full game .I guess you know which way I'm leaning but , don't let me stop you from going the other way cause the Books got to make it to pay it! Chillax have a cold one and let the fun begin.

I wouldn't call Pittsburg's record last season against teams with a winning record dismal, they went 4-4 in the regular season and 2-0 in the postseason to finish with a  very respectable 6-4   record  against teams with a winning record.

There's little correlation from year to year with records like this.

Tenn was 2-4 in 2007 and 5-2 in 2008,.

theclaw says:
09/06/09 07:09PM
Another thing I'll point out, Tenn went 5-2 in the regular season and 0-1 in the postseason for a 5-3 record against teams with a winning record.

Pittsburg was 6-4, see much difference there ???

If the Steelers need that towel incident to get up for the first game of the year than they're in trouble.

The Steelers center Hartwig is very weak(used to be Titan) making iit difficult for the Steeles to run the ball last year and probably this one as well.

Take the points in this one, in which promises to be  a close game.  It's always better to bet against the Champs the first game after a super bowl win.

The towel will keep the fans excited about the game, not the players.  If the players really cared would Nate Washington have signed with the Titans this year?

Think about that.

SexwithHookers says:

I agree.

Taking the points and titans is the best bet.  My large play will be with the points, and smaller play on the ML.  I sense a slight superbowl hangover, but put my faith in the consistency of the titans.

I look for vince young to have a BIG game.

Steelers will win. Defense looks 100% and Ben looks as sharp as ever. I would not cont out Tennessee from making it a game but i think Pittsburgh-ml is a solid play and worth the horrible price...

Who knows,if mistakes are made it could mean the Titans stealing one but im sure the Towel incedent  will be brought up agian, witch will only motivate the Steelers and make it even harder for the Titans to steal one in Pittsburgh IMO..

Everyone loves to talk steelers D.  Last time the titans D took on pitt does anyone remember 5 sacks and 4 forced turnovers on Ben???

"Tennessee did it without Pro Bowl defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth and end Kyle Vanden Bosch because of injuries. Their replacements helped them rest easy as the Titans sacked Ben Roethlisberger five times and forced him into four turnovers that they turned into 21 points.Rookie Jason Jones, who started for Haynesworth, had 3 1/2 sacks and forced Roethlisberger into three fumbles. Michael Griffin, a Pro Bowl alternate, came up with two interceptions for Tennessee."

The problem with your analogy is that roulette is a random event, and it is POSSIBLE that superbowl winners in week 1 are not - or at least LESS random than a roulette spin.

The two do not equate, you cannot make a comparison.

I am not a trend guy, most of them are correlation without causation (like a series of roulette spins) - people try to find patterns in random statistics all the time - but you cannot immediately discount the possibility that there is SOME causation with that trend until you properly analyze.

AND I'm NOT even a STEELERS FAN - but the yellow and black will be all OVER K.Collins, so much so Vince Young will be needed to make an appearance, and that's when that cushy spread your counting on will be absorbed. Stay away from the lure of the points, this will be a much different game then last Season's regular match-up. Pittsburgh's too well coached and play so much better at home. BOL to ALL.

sexwithhookers...

Good luck with your bet.  The Steelers crybabies comment was funny.  We haven't been doing much crying lately though.  You say that the Steelers shouldn't have "one" the SB (it's won by the way).  I'd love to hear your explaination for that.  If you mean they could have lost it, then you're right.  But they didn't.  There's alot of games throughout NFL history that could have went the other way.  But they didn't.  So who cares.

When capping games you should stick to facts and keep from making statements like that.  It will allow people to take you more seriously.

I'm not touching this game.  Collins is an average QB and will struggle.  He played well in the game last year, but the odds are he wont be able to do it again.  I say this because QB's typically have bad days against this D.  The average QB rating against the Steelers in '08 was 63.4.

The Steelers dont need the towel incident to motivate them.  But it will.  Historically, bad things happen to those who disrespect the towel.  It's true.  The fact is, it's just a towel.  But it was disrespectful nonetheless.  And tasteless.  Contrary to some, I think some players did take that to heart.  The home crowd is gonna be pumped for this game.  And I think home field advantage is something to consider also.  However, like I said before, I'm not touching this game.  The Titans are good... but the Steelers are better... Anything could happen.

But I hope you lose your money for the crybaby comment

Just to throw my prediction out there... Steelers 17, Titans 10

Not much scoring in this one.

Go Steelers!!!!

So happy football is here!

1.)  We don't know what would have happened had Brady been healthy.  The last time the Steelers played them they embarrased them.  And Brady couldn't have saved them.

2.)  As for the Tennessee coment, do you remember 2004 at all?  In that year, the Steelers thumped NE in the regular season.  However, when they met in the playoffs, the Patriots got the last laugh.  A regular season win does not guarantee anything when you meet again in the playoffs.

So please bring better stuff to the table, and thanks for serving our country.  Get home safely...

The Steelers D is the best, hands down, in the league.  That's why people talk about them.  Tennessee's D was also very good last year.  But not as good.

The fact is, you can't use last years game as a barometer because it was last year, and the Steelers obviously did not play as good a game as they usually do.  It was an aberation.  Do you know what that is?  Even the best teams have bad days.  That was a bad day at the office.  Don't count on it happening again.  That said, I do believe that 6 or 7 may be too many points, but I'm still staying clear of this one.  Pit could easily win by 7 or 10.

Inflated line, it should be around 4.  Pitt has a big bettor following and the books know it.  Tenn +5 or 6 is a steal, I don't know if they'll win but I'm fairly certain 4.5 will be enough to cover this one.  Superbowl hangover, rapist under center, Parker no action in the preseason, Tenn w/ a lot to prove.

As far as playmakers.  The Titans have the fastest running back in the league: Chris Johnson.  Probably the fastest Tight End in the league rookie Jared Cook(4.4 40 time).  Also I believe Washington was the Steelers fastest receiver, in addition they have rookie first round pick receiver Kenny Britt.

Last year the Titans were not very explosive, this year is altogether different.

I would recommend taking the points.

the only reasons the steelers won the super bowl last season were.

1.  tom brady was out for the season.

It's gonna be pretty tough for Kerry Collins to pass a football when he's laying on his back. This guy is not that quick and Pitsburgh defense is going to be stomping on his towel thursday. Remember that the nation will be watching. I don't see Pitsburgh taking their foot off the throttle on opening night.

I wanted to bet the steelers at like -3.5 or 4.5, but the spread wasn't even close. At -6 or more depending on the book, thats gettin a little rediculous I think.... I'm leaning toward titans at +6.5 or 7 as well. These are both hungry teams and the TItans have a lot to prove after such a strong regular season last year and a flopping in the play offs because they couldn't get the ball in the zone.

Now, I know most of you are going to say "well last year they beat the Steelers" well last year was the past and this is the present. The Steelers have one of the best run defenses in the NFL so Lendel White and Chris Johnson will be no problem to the Steelers. The Titans don't have any recievers that are difference makers. NevadaNightmare says:

If you think that I'm wrong about my roulette example, by all means come here to Nevada and give us all your money.  The roulette tables at major casinos have digital boards that tell you the last 20 numbers that came up and what color they were.  This is so that suckers walking by will see 8 reds in a row and bet all their money on black.  Every time the wheel is spun you have app. a 45% chance if you bet black, red, odd,or even.  Heres the important part.....REGARDLESS of the prior results.  You need probabilities for dummies.  Or just come to Nevada and pay for the road in front of my house to be repaved.
NevadaNightmare says:
09/08/09 02:23AM
Look I know the odds of the wheel hitting red 9 times is low, but so were the odds of it hitting 8, 7, 6, or 5 times in a row.  The ball and wheel do not know the prior results.  Each spin is completly independat of previous results!
NevadaNightmare says:
09/07/09 11:48PM

And what happened in 2000?  Let me guess the previous super bowl champ didn't cover, right?  So are you saying that something has permenatly changed in football that makes it so previous superbowl champs always cover week 1 now?  I think this stat is useless.  Look at it like this, if in roulette black hits eight times in a row should you bet red?  Maybe, but the odds of red, black, or zero are still the same as on the first spin.  Once again if you like the Steelers take them but this stat should not be the reason you do so.

NevadaNightmare says:
09/07/09 07:12PM
I'm with you on Tenn, but most of my money will be on the +6.  I will probably bet half as much on the ML.  In a low scoring slugfest 6 points can make a huge difference!

The fact is on offense the Steelers do not have a good run blocking line.  Their center is absolutely terrible.  Take the Titans +6 all day long.

UofL I'm not arguing with your pick, but what basis do you have for calling the Titans overrated.  They won 13 games last year, and have improved by leaps and bounds on offense.

Defensively they return 10 only losing Haynesworth who was hardly ever in the game with all his injuries.

Pitt 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS in openers last 6 years.

alrite alrite 10-10 with less then three to go.

i for one cannot understand, why somone would lay 220 on the game just to win a single bet. its alrite if you parlay it.

logic if u lose a -250 u are down 2.5 bets.  (2.5u to win 1u.)

but a parlay of a -250 and a -150 is about 1 to win 1u.

if you bet large favs ml to me u have no choice really, in most cases but unite them with another team.

or in the alternative if the dog is decent, take them on the spread , and juice it a bit buying a insurance point or two.  its still cheaper then the heavy favorite ml.

these two alternatives seem wiser then a single straight large ml bet. in most circumstances.

less then a minute.   10-10. tenny ball inside their own. 10. pitt timeout.

hey thankx sex with hookerz.  real nice job, and a real nice thred u had here. was definite assistance on which way to go. all that talk about the towelz made me a bit quessy.

10-10 OT one does wonder if the vegas books knew the pitt line would push out to -6.5, from -5. that trappy 5, for sure will be moving. ending up on a # pitt bakkers cannot win. but still less then 7.

i know i watched this line from the start, and it gained momentum about a week out.

this one tastes good for sure. trap avoided.

Here are some stats I found & they are all lifetime ATS for each QB:

Ben Roethilsberger is 24-17 ats at home lifetime

Ben is 34-27 as a favorite ats

Ben is 22-11 w/revenge ats

Kerry Collins is 48-36 away lifetime ats

Kerry is 46-46 as a dog ats

Kerry is 36-39 vs revenge

These are some tidbit stats for the Qb's in this game, you can take them with a grain of salt.

Huge Steeler fan, which is why I usually stay away from their games. However, an overrated TN team coming into Pitt., primetime game.  Crowd will be nuts and will be a factor!!  Pitt. 1st half -3.5 large play. If line stays below 7 take Pitt for the game as well.

Heinz Stadium is gonna feel like a Playoff Atmosphere, it's gonna be crazy.
If anything the Titans are underrated every year. Every season, people think the Titans will turn out to be a sub-par .500 team and every year they prove 'em wrong. Not takin' anything from the Steelers but it will be a close match. Titans will either cover or lose by exactly six.

Thanks for sharing your opinion You make great points
Here is my opinion -

To me, it comes down to who is hungrier

Last year is last year. Who cares

And as far as class, class does not catch TD or break off a 25 yard run on 3rd down. Besides that, no one exuded more class than the late -great Steve Mcnair-

I am sure the players are going to be thinking about him and they could come out motivated to win this one. They can beat them

Fisher is as classy as they get -so the titans have class.
One player stepping on a towel does not qualify the whole team  as classless. Its all in good sportsmanship.

Tenn has a tough challenge and the schedule makers did them no favors giving them the Steelers at home for a Prime Time Night Game where the Steelers excel unlike no other.

The Titans have the better coach in my view, a better offense based on last year and a great running attack that can really put the hammer on people. Tenn has a great Defense but obviously not as good as Pitt.

Conclusion - Tennessee covers the 6

GL fellas

Heres for all u faders  79% on the over and 76% on the Steelers. I personally like the under. It seems over the past 3 or 4 years that the team that won the superbowl covers in week 1 of the next season.

I'll have to disagree with you on this one. Mike Tomlin has been in the league for about 2-3 years and has already brought home a Lombardi Trophy. When was the last time Fisher's team won a Super Bowl? So, I'm sure a lot of people will agree with my on this one, Mike Tomlin is a better coach.

Look out for Tenn defensive line to cause problems on a weaker PITT off line.

games are won on the battle up front.  not the hype of a team from last year
SexwithHookers says:

e they still covered.  not surprised at all that they did.  2 missed field goals made a big difference from usually a sure thing kicker.  Look to pound tenn. next week

IMO Tommlin hasn't really been tested.  He inherited a great football team.  It's what he does when the chips are down that will show his worth as a coach to me.  Meanwhile Jeff in Ten. is the longest tenured NFL head coach.  I think there is a reason for this.  Just my $.02 on the subject,

Like I said....+6 was like Gold!!  Even went to 6.5 or 7 in some cases!!  Should of emptied the 401 K on this one!!  How can you give this team more than 3 and a half??  How many games have Tenn lost by 4 or more in recent history??  Great opener!! Predictable how I like em!!  Welcome back NFL!!!
