Might as well make a thread where I can post nonsense and hype up possible trades/signings.
The Yankees are looking to shed payroll (says one source) and keep it around $185 Million. Other sources say they are looking into a starting pitcher and will, more likely than not, sign a starting pitcher. The pitchers in that catagory are Lackey, Harden, Pineiro and Wolf.
Please knock those last 2 off the list. They are nothing but NL pitchers in NL parks and they would not be able to handle the American League, especially the East and Yankee Stadium. Harden I would take a chance on if it's not too expensive. We know what he can do when he's healthy. He can be dominant and I think he would be a solid pickup for the anyone who signs him (yes...that includes the Red Sox). Obviously I would like the Yankees to trade for Halladay, but, in all honesty, I wouldn't mind the Yankees signing Harden.
However...I hope Andy Pettitte retires. I think after such a long season, he may not recover after this one. 36 games this season. 33 last season. I don't think he can hold up for another whole season. I think he should just take the high road and retire. He clinched the ALDS, the ALCS and the World Series. No other way to end your career than that. However...he's at 229 wins, 2 more seasons, if he can handle it, would mean 250 wins which is pretty big for him and HOF talks.
The Yankees are also looking to sign a reliever. It's a pretty big market for relievers this season. No need for a lefty with Marte and Coke, so you can cross all of them off. The only person I could see is Fernando Rodney, and I personally don't even like him. Maybe Brandon Lyon, who the Yanks have took interest in, and I would advise against that as well. And I hope they don't take interest in Soriano or Gonzalez. If I were to choose...I would choose Soriano but I personally don't have faith in those 2.
The Yankees don't need a bat. From what I've heard is Damon will probably come back. Matsui is a goner. And maybe Juan Miranda will be the "dark horse" when it comes to being an every day DH and he'll alternate with other players being DH such as A-Rod, Tex, Jeter etc. He has a pretty good bat, nothing that will blow you away, but still pretty good.
More rumors are going around that the Yankees are interested in Mike Cameron, as they have been for the past few years, and maybe the thought of getting him and traded Melky for someone may be inevitable. I really hope this doesn't happen though as I think Melky is perfect for this team's chemistry and he came up huge for Yanks this season and knows how to do the little things and has a cannon. He also has improved his judgement when deciding whether he should dive for a ball or not. I love having him in the 9 hole and I would be upset if he wasn't a Yankee anymore as I still think his best days are head of him. His OBP could be better but he's still a 9 hitter batting around .270. No complaints here. He had a monster year seeing that Gardner was chosen over him in Spring and he had such a bad 2008 season.
Alright...enough talking...I just cannot wait until Monday. Winter Meetings will be fun.
