Cliff Lee..... 3 Starts 1 CG    0.74 ERA  24.1 IP 14 H 2 ER 0 HR  3 BB 20 SO
Sabathia... 3 Starts 0 CG  1.19 ERA  22.2 IP  17 H  3 ER 1 HR  3 BB  20 SO

Lee's been slightly better in the postseason.  Lee faced the Yanks twice this year.  Pitched well both times; a lot better in NY.  1-1 with a 3.00 ERA.  Also threw a gem (7 scoreless) in New York last year in the only game he faced them.

Sabathia faced the Phils once this year at home and lost 4-3.  3.37 ERA.  Also, got absolutely smoked last year in the playoffs by the Phils

I'll be on Lee + money in a pretty even all around matchup.  Phils won't be intimidated and are the best road team in baseball.

Btw, I've seen a lot of Yanks fans saying "Yanks in 5".  Hope they know that game is in Philly and the scheduled starters are Lee vs either Burnett on 3 days rest or Gaudin LMAO

Philly fans just like yourself... are you serious writing this... I called you out on it and you even agreed, and I still notice your petty little comments in Yankees threads!

am not saying the phils are a better team....I do think it is a tossup.

Phils are +190 on the greek.  They were underdogs against the Dodgers last two year, and dogs to TB last year.

Bullpen

has much solidified in the post season, yes, lidge is still a wild

card, but he has been getting ahead of hitters in the post season,

which is key for him.

Phillies 8 man lineup, taking into account both hitting, speed and defense, is overall better than the yankees.

Besides

Arod, and tossups at ss, 1b, and c, the other 4 positions belong

clearly to the phils, although cano certainly is another wild card for

the yankees.

Starting pitching is pretty much a wash.

Rivera is a large advantage for the yankees.

Phillies

absolutely have the IT factor, they have guts and chemistry throughout

the squad.  Yankees have certainly shown much of the same this season.

Manuel is a savant, the players love to play for him.  Girardi has done great this year in the pressure cooker.

Phils played yanks toe to toe in NY, but that was a long time ago.

The phillies are very confident as a team, and will be well rested.

Yankees have home field, both teams will hit well in the others ballparks.

Yep, IMO, pretty damn close to a tossup.

Obviously, I love the +190.

I'm a big time Yankee fan, but I can say with 100% confidence and fact that Ubaldo Jimenez is better than AJ Burnett

I got 2 bills on Phils +163 for the Series. Let's GO Phils!

Yeah, Stuck, If you're not in NY you're nothing

Obviously "Captain Canoli" Sabathia is a monster (quite literally actually) but I would take Cliff Lee at that price all day.....and twice on Sunday. Should be a great series and a lot better then the Yankee backers are predicting.

Go Phils !!!!!

I am Ranked # 1 ATS in the Covers League Champions Picks Contest - MLB Playoffs. 20-3 record as of 10/26/2009.

Yes I am biased as a Philadelphia Phillies fan and want to let everyone know that. With that out of the way I will give honest opinions of the upcoming World Series games with the Defending Champions vs the Most Storied Franchise in History.

For Game One I am taking the Phillies+154 with C.Lee going against C.C. Sabathia of the Yankees. Unlike many WS, the Phillies are very familiar with C.C. and beat him in the NLDS last season. Sabthia has also give up 6 HR's at Yankees stadium this year, most of any stadium and the Phillies have hugh poppers. Lee has been lights out and has already gotten through his hick ups for the season. I look for this to be a very close game, maybe even 1-0 and I believe that Lee has a much better shot at a complete game than does Sabathia. Also, Remember... The Phillies ARE the defending Champions so they are more than use to being in this situation. I give the slight edge in this game to the Phillies and at +154 they are my pick in game one.

This pick is for game one only. I will pick on a game to game basis. Good Luck

you may critique Burnett, but who is  the philly 2nd starter ?
i dont think i need mention the stats for cole, cause they are much worse than that of burnett.  the phils have lost 9 of coles last 15 starts and he hasnt pitched into the 6th since september, hello philly long relief.  oh and who is the philly 3/4 starters? happ, pedro or blanton. good luc there. they have a combined 5 starts since september.

and the nyy with cc, one loss in his last 15 starts.

who did lee play the cant score a run Cardinals or the young dodger who fell apart under the pressure

the Yanks been under pressure all year, they could handle it, and this and last year face a fluke team like the Rays who was clearly suspect and also a young team, now the Phills face a team with 4 vets who's been there done that even been there to loose 1 so they know how it feels then you know their not having that again not to mention how the bats are heating up for the yanks and like i said before the Yanks are battle tested take a look at the Phillies road to the play offs the whole second half of the season was basically a give me, don't believe me check it out for yourself, then look at the Yanks road to the play offs and you tell me what you see... Yanks in 5 the Phills steal 1 at home game 4 to stop the sweep, don't forget what the yanks did to the last 2 teams that beat them earlier in the season, ask the Red Sox Fans, and the Angels fans,

and so what they beat them earlier in the season so did the Nationals does that mean the Nats would beat the Yankees in the World Series... Yea right so throw that thought out the window along with the Lee pitching better than C.C in the play offs theory
and if it wasn't for that bad pitching change by Joe the yanks would have swept the Angels you all know this

maybe my memory sucks but wasn't hammels the MVP last year???

PHI has a lot of options, as far as pitching. They are going to play match ups.  But you know what NY is going to do...they have 3 starters, and a closer

Sparky10191 says:
10/26/09 04:00PM

And wasn't Richie Sexson good once too? What does last season have to do with Hamels now? All I've heard was Hamels was great last season. He had a great postseason. Well he hasn't had a quality start in 6 starts and has gone more than 5 just 1 time in his last 4 starts and that was 1 out into the 6th.

JGB3 says:
10/26/09 04:02PM

No Shit ! Really..... never thought the away team looked for the split on the road. I always thought they wanted to go down 0-2 out of the gate. That way they're really are hungry when they get home. Good incite bro ! Thanks .......

The yanks are a team that everyone lovesss to go against....Wether in the mlb world or the betting world...The yanks spend alot of money everyone knows it but they are not breaking the rules....and in the betting aspect of things when you bet against the yankees mostly all the time you are getting + money...Dont fade the yanks in the betting world take the yanks series with juice...

Sparky10191 says:
10/26/09 05:24PM

And thats the thing. Everyone LOVES fading the Yanks.  Last season...it worked. In past playoffs....it worked. But now people are abusing that and think it will work every time. I'm sure a LARGE amount on here lost a whole lot more money betting against the Yanks then on them. They took the Twins because there was "value" which I thought was really stupid. They took the Angels because there was "value" which is more understanding because of the Yankees' struggles against the Angels but that didn't work either. And now people will be all over the Phillies because of the "value" and they'll be blowing their money away...again.

ihatenascar says:

This is the worst read ever...Yankees fans are explaining why they are great???  What a joke....and these comparisons to last year do mean something in my opinion, but if they don't mean anything like Spark says then why would remember Fat Boy getting SHELLED by the Phills last year!!!!

Burnett is a joke...no control at all when curve ball can't find the strike zone....I think the Yankees fans should look at the Phils line up and stop drooling over their own.....not sure but back-to-back World eries trips and you are getting 190 back for the series...that is the joke of it all

People need to forget about last season's tee ball game against Sabathia. It's an entirely different scenario.

In the 2009 season, Sabathia will have 26 days from his final start of the regular season to the final start before his matchup against the Phillies. In those 25.1 innings he threw 409 pitches.

In the 2008 season, in Sabathia's 26 days leading up to the matchup against the Phillies, he had thrown 35.2 innings and 547 pitches. And if you want to add 1 more day add 7 more innings and 106 more pitches.

Sabathia pitched in 253 innings in 2008's regular season. He only pitched in 230 in the 2009 regular season. He was not overused down the stretch in New York where he was in Milwaukee leading up to that game. The thing is...CC threw so many more pitches/innings without a break leading up to the playoffs on 2008. In 2009 he had less innings/pitches thrown and had breaks in between. ALSO...he will have 7 days rest between his starts leading up to the World Series.

Stuckey says:

Just dumb.  First off, he faced a very good Rockies lineup in the first round, not the Cards.  Rocks lineup > Twins.  And, youre saying the Dodgers choked?  Well, so did the fucking Angels.  And, the Dodgers were the best hitting team in the NL in 2009 with a very good lineup.
hawkeye33 says:

In my opinion this is the best world series match up since 1999 Yanks vs Braves.  I really think these teams are very evenly matched; both have a stud at the top of the rotation and both have great lineups.

I'll take my chances with Hamels over Burnett and call me nuts but I think Pedro will pitch well.  Yanks feast on fastballs and Pedro may be able to pull the string on those pitches to frustrate the Yanks.  The wild card is Andy.  He is pitching great and could be the difference maker.
behumble23 says:
10/27/09 02:37AM

Excuse me, can you please leave my Dodgers out of this?  Yes our pitching staff sucked balls, but please don't bring that up on pitching debates.

In a happier note, please kick the Phillies ass!  Please expose the weakness which is their bullpen.  I'm sure Phillies fans have false expectations of Brad Lidge in the World Series.  Stop lying to yourselves if you say you're 100% confident with this guy.  Please don't bring up Broxton, he's dead to me.

STUCK-ey I see your up to your usual idiotic comments again as your IQ continues to spiral lower and lower.  And regarding your post #61 you now switch and say the Dodgers had a very good lineup when earlier in my post you were saying our lineup was a joke???  What's with the story change?

Mauer, Kubel, Cuddyer and Young were hitting really well going into the series.

heads up for the clowns:   Pedro was out of baseball for the majority of the year for good reason......he pitched in the NL for what 10-15 starts...and now he is going to come into his own personal house of horrors, 8 years later, in the World Series...and shut this team down....again wake the fuck up
ICAPSports says:
10/28/09 04:04AM
I just can't believe how many people believe Pedro is going to go lights out in Yankee stadium at nearly 40 or 40 or 50 or whatever he is......you people need to wake the fuck up

All I know is Brandon Lang is on the Phillies to win the series.  I don't like that Jimmy Rollins publicly guaranteed victory in 5 either.  With that said:

Yankees -200 on the series.  I think yanks get this done in 5, 6 at worst to do it in front of the home crowd.  LETS GOOOOO!

as much as the yanks are a feared bunch, i honestly think the phillies have a shot at going back to philly up 2-0.

game 1 is pretty much a tossup w/ the 2 best pitchers in the postseason going at it so the value lays in betting philly. game 2 i really see the advantage going to the phillies. burnett is an overpaid piece of shit and he has shown as much this postseason. the phills bats are going to rock him. pedro is a big ??? but i'll take him over burnett anyday.

and please stfu steve. your opinion is utterly worthless
