2009-10 Big East thoughts

I'll post some comments I made in another thread.  Feel free to share your thoughts.

Last year, this conference gave us 4 1 seeds and was arguably one of the best conferences of all time.

This year, no 1 seeds, but it will be more competitive from top to bottom.

I love Seton Hall this year.  I think they are tourney bound.  They will definitely make a big jump in the Big East.

They bring Pope and Garcia back down low (one of the better low blocks in the Big East especially if this freshman from Memphis can step in).

Their scoring star Hazell is back and Harvey as well running the point.  They also get Keon Lawrence, transfer from Mizzou.

Dangerous team.  Alright, I'll stop.  Just haven't rambled hoops in a while

Think about how much the top tier teams in the Big East lost to graduation:

Notre Dame: Macalerny, Ayers, Hillesland, Zeller although Gody back

Ville: Williams, Mcgee, Clark

Uconn: Adrien, Price, Austrie, Thabeet

Pitt: Fields, Young, Biggs and Blair

Cuse: Flynn, Dievendorf, Harris

Marquette: Mcneal, Burke, Matthews, James

Nova: Cunningham, Clark, Anderson although backcourt will be fine

Gtown and Wvu are in better positions.  Both bring back their best players (Monroe and Butler) and bring back most everyone else.  Ruoff and Summers did leave

Then you have these bottom feeders of last year that bring EVERYBODY back.  See: Seton Hall, St Johns and Cincy.  All three will make a big jump.  Rutgers to a certain extent, but the talent just isn't there.

Providence, Depaul and South Florida will be brutal.  No surprise there.

Disregard most of his talk about the BE. Woop is extremely bias towards the BE and is a staunch ACC supporter.

I'm with you on Seton Hall and think Rutgers will make great strides.

Providence could do a little better since they were hurt by having Curry out all last year and he will be back this season.

Woop

this is not your thread and I did not respond to your comment. Keep living in your fantasy world.

About 85% of non-bias, educated college basketball fans predicted UNC to win it all last year, it was elementary.  This coming year, not so easy.

bense- Maybe you don't remember being around here during the tourney, cause people went against the Heels left and right. Everyone tried to be the "big dog" and call when they were going to lose.

Stuckey- Yes, the Hall will be a great ATS spread team at the very least. They will be a tough squad.

they won't be able to replace Cunningham, but Nova has a great class coming in. I think they make it to the Elite 8 at least again.

I can't wait till this season starts to get talked about.

I so bad, I couldn't deal w/out football and already I want college bball

Curry played all year last year.... had 12 ppg and 4 apg.

They lost there whole last team from last year though... only 3 returning players... Curry, Brooks and McKenzie.

Nobody has any clue how the new players coming in will be... so for stuckey to say they will be "brutal" is pretty amazing figuring nobody has a clue.  Never really have respected his opinion on the Big East.. but w/e.  I'm working on a Big East preview now for a website... i'll post it here before hand.... maybe tomororw.

I confused last year with the year before when Curry went down it was very apparent the loss of him and no real PG play hurt the team.

Keno is a a good coach and if his players are disciplined and play mistake free basketball while hitting the 3s (Providence usually does hit 3s) they can surprise some people.

Nova and WVU should be the class of hte league but I think UConn will be somewhat overlooked this year because of who they loss. However, they have the talent to grow and become a dangerous team during the second half of the year.

Ville will  be solid but not as good as the past 2 years.

Cinci, Hall, Gtown, Pitt, Cuse, ND will be an very strong middle of the league.

Rutgers is a team I am excited to see. I like what Hill has done since taking over and they have a lot of interesting players and talent. Whether they can play the D necessary to keep them in games will be the question.

St Johns, Depaul, S Florida.... looks like they will have a long season.

I think top to bottom the BE will be stronger than last year. They won't have the dominant 1 seeds but they will have a lot stronger as a whole.

Went to the RED/White game for Louisville tonight they were lighting it up with 3's from all over. They look alot better right now then they did this time last year.

What's all this talk about the Big East?? Let's not count out Kansas, Kentucky, Purdue and Duke. As my sleepers, Georgia Tech, Texas (young team), UNC and Minnesota will play big this year.

He is just talking about the conf. i don't think it deserves "all this talk". Two people that mostly bet the BE also made a thread.

And sorry, I will count out Puke. NO PG, no need to worry. Oh, yeah, they have no front line either. I have never seen a team go deep in the tourney with no PG and get owned on the boards.
