How good is LSU's defense, really?

I will admit that I haven't watched as much of LSU as I have wanted to. I saw them play the entire game against North Carolina, a half of the West Virginia game, a half of the Tennessee game and a half of the Florida game. However, I have not really been that impressed by their defense.

Sure, they do rank 3rd in the country in total defense, but they also haven't really played many teams with an offense. Their schedule thus far, with total offense rank in parentheses:

North Carolina (63)
Vanderbilt (102)
Mississippi State (55)
West Virginia (64)
Tennessee (97)
Florida (91)
McNeese State (78 in FCS)

The best offense they have played thus far is a mediocre Mississippi State one.

We all know that Auburn's offense is one of the best in the country, and LSU will be the best defense they have played, without a doubt, but how good is LSU's defense, really? Someone who has seen them play more please inform me.

LSU's defense is legit. They've got future high draft picks at each level. Drake Nevis at DT. Kelvin Sheppard (Cam Newton's nightmare) at LB. Tyrann Mathieu and the ultimate beast, Patrick Peterson at CB.

They've also got serious athletes on offense. The only reason I give Auburn a chance is because LSU's QB play can at times be abysmal and hold the team back. Other than that, LSU is probably the most physically talented team in the NCAA. Even the place kicker can boot 50 yarders with ease.

LSU's defense is seasoned and hungry. i've watched every LSU game since i was a little boy and this is one of the strongest defenses they've ever had. they're disciplined and very physical. Auburn will not be scoring some huge number of points and this total line is waaaayyyyy too high. Granted, the tiger's offense has been anemic, but they've won every game this year because their defense is so talented and deep. Take LSU ML on Saturday and the under and you won't regret it! GL

By your logic Houston,Tulsa, and Hawaii have a better offense than Arkansas, Southern California, Oklahoma.....all teams other than ten. You can not just look at rankings, surely you don't think Miss. St.'s offense is better than Florida or West Virginia. Also, against all these teams only 2 scored more than 14.
