Beginning of the season I dropped a pretty nice sized wager (for me at least) on Bama to win it all at 4-1. I have to say I am fortunate to even have a shot after Bama lost at home to LSU, although I still believe these are the two best teams in the country and Bama is deserving of a shot to play for the NC. I think Bama could have and should have won the first game, but I think it would be a bit foolish not to hedge this out, at least part of the way. These teams are very evenly matched. One of those instances where you have to be a business man and not a gambler in my opinion. Any thoughts on this?

Solid fade material right now I'll be the first to say it. See if I can turn it around and finish the season strong.
Saints -7.5
Very simple here. Giants without Bradshaw rushed for twenty something yards last week and I don't think have the offensive balance to score tonight and stay in this game, which figures to be pretty high scoring. Saints on the other hand are coming off a bye and playing at home are 4-0 SU and ATS and have not scored less than 27 points all season. Not a trends guy but Giants are 1-4-1 last six and with Saints 4-0 ATS at home I'll say Who Dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints? Not the Giants tonight.

Absolutely terrible day yesterday. Don't even know what to say. Hopefully today is a better day.
Jets -9
Buffalo is fading fast and they are decimated with injuries. They haven't traveled well either. Jets really need this game and I think they'll get the job done. Rexy Rex sat Sanchez out for some of the first teams reps and last time that really pissed him off and worked well. I really don't think Buffalo with Fred Jackson out and some of the other injuries does enough offensively to stay in this game, and the Jets defense should have no problem stopping them.
Chicago +3
I know Caleb Hanie is starting for the Bears today but he did a decent job when he took over for Cutler in the NFC Championship game and that was against Green Bay. You never know when the next big guy is gonna step up in the NFL some great quarterbacks have started as backups. Not saying Hanie will be great like that necessarily but you never know. I think he will be serviceable at worst. Also, the Bears can rely on Forte and the defense and hopefully get something out of Hester so it's not like Cutler is their whole team even though he's having a great season. On the other side Oakland is banged up at receiver and Palmer has been doing a nice job but I think this Bears defense is one of the better defenses he will have seen since taking over. McFadden may or may not play either way Bush has been doing a nice job but I really don't see him running wild... [More]

Texas at Texas A&M Under 53
Yea I realize Case McCoy came in and got the Texas offense moving a little yesterday but that was against a mediocre K State defense and I think A&M is a little too good to let that continue. Texas is a running team and I think they realize they absolutely don't have what it takes to get in a shootout with Texas A&M and the offensive weapons they have. Texas' one saving grace is a pretty good defense and I think that and their running game are their only hope of staying in this game, and I think it's a recipe for an under. Frankly I'm surprised that this number is in the fifties and that scares me a little, maybe I'm missing something but I'm gonna go with my gut and take under the total.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Hope it's a good one on all fronts.
Detroit +6.5
I just think this is a good matchup and a good spot for Detroit. Both teams are playing on a short week but Green Bay is the road team and I think that's a big deal given the short week of rest. What Aaron Rodgers is doing is really remarkable and I like the guy a lot but I think Detroit's defensive line could get some pressure on him and may disrupt him a bit in this game. I also think we've heard a lot about Green Bay's weekness in the secondary and I think Stafford and Megatron could have something to say about that tomorrow. I've thought all along Green Bay will not slip up at home but may drop a game or two on the road and I think this could definitely be the spot for it. Add in the fact that Green Bay hasn't exactly been blowing teams out most weeks and I'll grab the points in this game.
Baltimore -3
The Ravens have had some bad games on the road against marginal competition in Jacksonville, Tennessee and Seattle but in the games that have really mattered a la the Pitt games, they have really shown up and played good ball. Yea sure I'd rather have Ray Lewis in there of course but I just don't see Alex Smith going into Baltimore and having a big day I really don't. Frank Gore will play but he's banged up and I don't know that San Fran does enough to win this game. Great season the 49ers are putting together I"m happy for them but I don't think they have w... Miami Ohio at Ohio Over 56.5
I like the over tonight in this rivalry game for several reasons. For Ohio they have a very solid quarterback in Tyler Tettleton who can chuck it and make plays with his legs, as well as a standout receiver in La'Von Brazil. Miami Ohio's defense yielded 429 yards to Alex Carder and Western Michigan, and are also coming off a tough game prior to that against Temple. I wouldn't be shocked this defense, which isn't that good in the first place, is a little worn down, and I think this Ohio team will score 35+ points in this contest. Ohio did hit a lull in their season about half way through but come into this game with a lot of momentum having notched big wins against pretty good competition. Miami Ohio also has a very good quarterback in Zac Dysert, but they did a terrible job protecting him the past two games, allowing him to be sacked seven times most recently against Western Michigan. However, Ohio hasn't been putting much pressure on the quarterback, so if Dysert gets time he could go off, and has two solid receivers in Harwell and Givens and could certainly do some damage if given some time in the pocket. Ohio doesn't exactly feature a stout defense themselves, and Dysert is definitely capable of having a big night. I see at least 24 being scored by Miami Ohio, and don't have any trouble envisioning a 60+ point game tonight.
Bonus play... DUKE -6.5

Minnesota +16.5
I know Northwestern's offense is good with Persa but I don't think they quite have the defense to cover this number against a Big 10 opponent who has beated Iowa and played USC and Michigan State close. Like I said, I know Northwestern is good but they've allowed a lot of points this season, including 38 to Indiana, 24 to Penn State (not an offensive juggernaut), 41 to Iowa, 42 to Michigan, and 38 to Illinois (also not a great offensive team). I know Minnesota's not a great offensive football team, but I think they're decent enough to cover the number in this one. I think aside from Persa, the talent discrepancy across the board is not that great. With the total set at 57.5, I think a 35-21 type game sounds reasonable, and I don't see why either team should be too far off from those totals. I'll take the points in this conference showdown.
Purdue +1.5
Iowa suffered a tough loss last week to Michigan State that pretty much ruined any chance at winning the Big 10. They were supposed to be a good home team, which is partly why I backed them, and I think they fail to get the job done again on the road at Purdue, who has been fiesty at home knocking off Illinois and defeating the Buckeyes last weekend (Granted they got a little lucky with the missed PAT, but still). Aside from a tough loss early in the season at Rice, Purdue's other ... [More]

Jets Broncos Under 40
I like this under for several reasons tonight. First, I'm not hating on
Tim Tebow the person but he is kind of a joke of an NFL quarterback.
Maybe he'll prove me wrong, and I know the kid's a winner, but he hasn't
exactly defeated anyone too formidable so far. There will be a lot of
running, and I don't think it'll be all that successful as the Jets will
definitely play man coverage and stack the box. Revis and Cromartie are
good enough to defend the Broncos receivers, especially with Tebow
tossing it around. Don't expect much offensive output from Denver. On
the other hand the Jets are coming off the Sunday Night game so a short
week is even shorter and traveling out to Denver, playing in the thin
air in Mile High I think could slow them down a bit. The Jets
should
win this game, but who knows in the NFL and they definitely have some
situational factors going against them, so I'm laying off the side.

Tough night for us last night. Not say
Miami Ohio -1.5
Over 59.5
This is an interesting matchup here between Western Michigan and Miami Ohio, with a lot of factors in play in this one. Western Michigan's offense is high-powered, led by quarterback Alex Carder, who is having a great season. However, after a strong start, Western's defense has fallen off as they have faced some tougher spread offenses, yielding over 50 points to NIU and Toledo. While Miami Ohio doesn't quite have the same firepower as those two teams I think they do have enough to exploit Western's porous defense, as they have a very solid quarterback in Dysert and an excellent receiver in Nick Harwell. Look for these two to make big plays all night tonight. Miami Ohio is banged up on the offensive line and did yield a lot of sacks against Temple, but Western Michigan defensive end Freddie Bishop, who leads the team in sacks, is banged up and his backup is out for the season with a broken leg. I think this will limit the extent to which Western Michigan is able to generate pressure on Dysert. While Western's defense has struggled, Miami has played pretty well defensively. These MAC games have been going Over like crazy and putting up huge point totals. To see this line set at 59.5 is a bit surprising, and I think if this figures to be a more defensive game, you have to give the edge to Miami. Miami also has a lot more to play for, as they are still... [More]

Northern Illinois -17.5
Yet another MAC showdown here on Tuesday night, featuring Ball State and Northern Illinois. This is the third straight road game for Ball State, who isn't a bad squad this year. They've beaten Ohio, Army, and Indiana, and have played South Florida and Oklahoma. That's a pretty tough schedule for a MAC team. However, I think they are in trouble here tonight against NIU. Ball State is banged up and lacks depth as a result. This is a problem, as they are already the worst defense in the MAC, facing the best offense in the MAC. I believe NIU will be going up and down the field on Ball State tonight, and will wear down the depleted Ball State squad. NIU's quarterback Chandler Harnish is a dual-threat and will give this porous defense fits. Furthermore, Ball State just lost their starting running back in last week's contest due to a broken leg. Ball State will be one dimensional tonight and unable to sustain drives and possess the ball, against a defense that gave a much better effort last week after givin up 60 to Toledo. Ball State does have a pretty solid quarterback in Keith Wenning, and I don't doubt that they'll produce some offense, but I think NIU has way too much firepower for an already poor and depleted defense. NIU is clicking on all cylinders right now, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them run Ball State off the field tonight.

Illinois -1
Michigan has played great this year in the Big House, but have lost on the road at Michigan State and Iowa. I think the road woes continue this week at Illinois. Illinois has suffered three tough losses in a row, all to solid teams, but are now back at home and coming off a bye. I think that helps them get back on track against Michigan. Illinois' defense is on the small and quick side, and I think that could be an advantage against the speedy and dangerous Denard Robinson. Illinois also lost a heartbreaker last year in Ann Arbor, and I think they will be looking for revenge in a game that could get their season back on track.
Iowa +3
Michigan State is another team that has struggled on the road this year. Iowa, meanwhile, is coming off a nice home win against Michigan, and looks to continue their success at home. With the exception of the win over Wisconsin, State hasn't done anything overly impressive this season. All the taclk about State's stellar defense was probably a little exaggerated, as they racked up good stats against weak opponents. Nebraska did a great job stopping MSU's offense recently, and I think Iowa can learn a thing or two from watching that tape. Iowa has been a completely different team at home this year, and I think with a steady dose of Marcus Coker, who has been playing much, much better, and Vanderburg, Iowa can do enough in this game to pull the W.

South Florida -3
The way the season has gone for South Florida you might expect the line to be Syracuse -3 or so in this game, but I think Vegas has set the line at USF -3 knowing that they'd get a lot of public action on the Orange. I think they've done this because they know South Florida is the better team, and when they don't shoot themselves in the foot, they are one of the better teams in the Big East, in spite of their 0-4 conference record. Though the season has been a disappointment, the Bulls could still become bowl eligbile by winning two of its last four games, and tonight is one of their better chances to get a win with Miami and West Virginia still remaining on the schedule. Tonight at Syracuse, and against Louisville are the two best chances to win. USF is 0-4 in the Big East but with the exception of the Pitt game, they haven't lost by more than 6 points. South Florida is still gaining a lot of yards and scoring points, and I think they will continue that tonight against the Cuse. The matchup to watch in this game is South Florida running game, first in the conference, against Cuse's run defense, also first in the conference. I think USF gets the better of that matchup tonight. After a huge upset victory of West Virginia, Cuse has lost two straight to UConn and Louisville, and I just don't know that they are as outstanding as they seemed in that WV victory. On the defensive side of the ball, I think USF has enough talent to limit Cuse's effectiv... [More]

Georgia Tech Pick
In my view Virginia Tech has not been all that impressive this season. Victories by 7 and 4 over ECU and Duke just scream "we're not that good of a football team." Virginia Tech is also switching around a lot of guys in their front seven today to put more speed on the field, to better defend the Yellow Jackets vaunted triple option attack. I personally don't think it'll be too effective, and Georgia Tech should still run effectively on them. Georgia Tech has also thrown the ball more effectively this season with Tevin Washington and stud receiver Stephen Hill. This makes the triple option even more dangerous because Tech can beat you deep if you bring in too many men to defend the run. The most underrated unit in this contest is the Georgia Tech defense, who has done a good job this season, most notably against a high-powered Clemson offense, and I think will limit Virginia Tech's effectiveness. Virginia Tech QB Logan Thomas is only a sophomore and his youth may show on the road in front of a hostile Georgia Tech crowd. This game will more than likely decide the ACC Coastal winner, so it's a huge game for both squads. I'll back the better team in Georgia Tech in front of the home crowd to get the job done.

Ohio -7
The Ohio Bobcats are a good squad this year, coming off a nice win over Temple, putting themselves in the driver's seat in the MAC. I look for them to carry their momentum from last game into tonight's contest against a struggling Central Michigan team. Ohio's offense is very solid, with good players at all the skill positions. They put up a boat load of yards and points against one of the "best defenses in the country" in Temple. I think they will do the same against Central. Central Michigan can score also with a pretty decent quarterback and some good receivers, but I don't think they will be able to match scores with Ohio's offense. The two critical factors in this game, in my view, are rest and motivation. Central is coming off its second three game road trip of the season, and playing its third game in twelve days. That is brutal scheduling. Central has also not had a bye this year. Ohio, meanwhile, played last Wednesday against Temple so they have an extra day to prepare for this Thursday night contest. That is a significant difference in the amount of rest both teams have for this game. Also, Ohio knows they control their own destiny in the MAC, and will be highly motivated tonight. I think all of these factors put together make for a comfortable Ohio win tonight.

Miami Ohio +13.5
Another great MAC matchup here on Wednesday night featuring Miami Ohio and Temple. Miami Ohio is still tied for first in the MAC East with Ohio, and they are both ahead of Temple, so obviously this is a huge game for both squads. Miami Ohio won the MAC last year and must win this game if it hopes to repeat as conference champs. Miami lost its first four games this season but is 4-1 since the disappointing start. Their fivelosses are to Toledo, Cincy, Minnesota, Missouri and Bowling Green. The Bowling Green loss is not great, but the other four are all pretty good teams. Their only two big losses are to Cincy and Toledo, both very good passing teams featuring Collaros and Dantin, which Temple really is not. Either way, it's safe to say Miami is playing their best ball right now. Miami features a very good quarterback in Zac Dysert and stud receiver Nick Harwell. Temple's defense has been stellar this season but got torched by Ohio, and I think Miami will find the endzone at least a few times tonight. Temple meanwhile has lost two straight to Ohio and Bowling Green. I do expect a better effort from them tonight, however. They got a much needed offensive spark from Quarterback Chris Coyer who can chuck it around pretty well and makes plays with his legs. However, I think now that Miami saw what Coyer did against Ohio, they will have a solid gameplan in place to slow him down. Also, Temple's stud running ba...

Western Michigan +12
Toledo is coming off a big loss against NIU last week where they allowed two kick return touchdowns to start the game, and badly mis-managed the end of the game, failing to use timeouts on NIU's final drive and leaving themselves with three timeouts and 19 seconds to drive the field. This was a devastating loss for Toledo's MAC conference standing. They have some great players in Austin Dantin and Eric Page, but everything about this game spells emotional hangover. Toledo needs this game badly to stay alive in the MAC, but how do they respond to the crushing defeat? They face a Western Michigan team who is in 4th in their division and absolutely needs to win here to have a shot at staying alive. Aside from being desperate, they have a very high-powered offense led by Alex Carder. Western Michigan has had an up and down season, but they have shown signs of promise and I believe they bring their best effort tonight against a Toledo squad that may not have the same energy they have shown all season after last week's heartbreaker.

Tough day in the NFL, let's get back on the money train.
Bowling Green +5
Northern Illinois is coming off a huge win over Toledo in the Glass Bowl. I think after such a huge emotional victory, they will have a tough time bringing the same intensity to the table in this game against Bowling Green. NIU is a good squad led by quarterback Chandler Harnish who has 18 TD's and 4 picks and also leads the team in rushing. No doubt NIU's offense is high-powered, but there are two keys to this game which I believe are working against them. First is their defense, which has allowed 35 points per game, granted that number is inflated by a few bad performances, but it leaves a lot to be desired. Second is their inability to possess the ball, ranking last in the conference in time of possession. Granted, they have a quick strike offense, but if Bowling Green can move and possess the ball, I think they have a good chance of staying in this game. Bowling Green has a solid quarterback and two good receivers, and should be getting back their running back after he suffered a concussion. Bowling Green struggled in their last game against Kent State due to a lack of offensive balance. However, the same passing game is in place and they should be able to get the ground game going again with Samuel back. This is good timing as NIU has gotten torched on the ground this year. Bowling Green has a few extra days of rest, and NIU is coming off a huge ... [More]

Texas -14
Texas Tech is really a feel good story after knocking off Oklahoma in Norman. Quite the accomplishment. However, I'm rolling with the Texas in this game. We saw what happened to Tech the week after their victory, getting blown out by Iowa State. How do they respond this week against a solid Texas team? We all know about Seth Doege and Texas Tech's offense, but I think their defense is a glaring weakness. Texas knows this, and they also know Tech doesn't defend the run well, so I think we see Texas pound the rock and do it successfully. The purpose of this is two-fold. Keep the Tech offense off the field, and wear down the Tech defense. Tech will definitely score some points but I think Texas will as well and I think Texas can get enough defensive stops to win by two touchdowns or more.
Baylor -2.5
This is very interesting game from a situational perspective. Missouri is coming off a huge road win against Texas A&M, and now they hit the road to play a tough Baylor squad. Missouri has not really put two solid performances together back to back all year. Baylor on the other hand has gotten drubbed by Oklahoma State and Texas A&M on the road and will be looking forward to a home game. Missouri has played a tough schedule and they have a very balanced offense, but they have been terrible against the pass and that is a recipe for disaster against Robert Griffin III. RGIII lights up the Missouri defense today and wins ... [More]

Tough loss last night. Congrats Tulsa backers. They were the better team last night. On to tonight.
Kent State -1.5
This is the third straight road game for Central Michigan, who has taken a step backwards as a program this year. Central Michigan has a good win over Northern Illinois, but that's about the only bright spot in their season. Last week, they just eeked out a win over the lowly Akron Zips. Kent State on the other hand is not as bad as their record makes them seem, with two of their losses coming to Alabama and Kansas State, as well as close losses to Ohio and Miami Ohio. Tonight is a good spot for them to grab a conference win in front of the home crowd. Kent State reshuffled their offensive line and had one of their best offensive outputs of the season in their last game. Central Michigan's defense has been generous and this is a good spot for Kent continue their success. Kent State has dropped 12 of their last 14 games to Central Michigan, and I'm sure they'd love to knock them off at home in a year where Central is not as strong as they have been in years past. Laying the points with the Golden Flashes at home tonight.

UCF -1.5
Tulsa had a great win last week over conference foe SMU, and now they hit the road on a short week to take on another conference rival, UCF. After a big emotional win on Saturday and a short week to travel from Oklahoma to Florida, I think this is a tough situational spot for Tulsa. They take on a UCF team that has struggled on the road, but have been lights out at home (granted against Charleston Southern, BC, Marshall, and Memphis). When you look at this matchup and breakdown the two teams, it almost seems obvious that Tulsa would win and win big. They both played SMU, who beat down UCF and got a beat down from Tulsa. Tulsa has an outstanding quarterback in GJ Kinne, while UCF has lost to some mediocre teams on the road this year, including the lowly UAB Blazers. There is every reason that Tulsa should be favored and win big. However, you have the Knights favored, with the public backing Tulsa. I think this game boils down to the situation. Tulsa off a huge win, hitting the road on a short week, facing a UCF team that has a stingy defense and has played great at home, playing a huge conference game. UCF, despite a lackluster season, still has a chance to win the Conference USA, and it all starts with grabbing a win here tonight. I think they get the job done is a defensive slugfest. All area college students can attend this game free of charge, and the stadium will be rocking tonight. Knights get the job done.

Ohio +3.5
We have another MAC game here on Wednesday night, and this figures to be a great game. Temple features the nation's second best defense, facing a high-powered Ohio offense lead by Tyler Tettleton, who has 17 TD's and 5 Ints on the season, along with two good receivers and a solid back. Toledo was able to move the ball through the air against Temple, and I think Ohio will as well. I don't think Ohio will score as easily as they do against most teams, but I think they will get their points. On the other side is Temple's extremely one-dimensional offense. They have one of the best running backs in the country in Bernard Pierce, though he has been slowed by a hamstring injury and was not that effective in his last game. They do have a good No. 2, but with Temple's 113th ranked passing game, Ohio will load the box and dare Temple to beat them through the air. If Temple can't move the ball on the ground, it will be a long night for the offense. Ohio does have two injuries on their d-line, but they have a great middle linebacker who is getting healthy, and they haven't allowed a 100-yard rusher all season. Also, Temple lost their starting left tackle last game, who will likely miss tonight's game at Ohio. I think Temple will have some success running, but not enough to match scores with Ohio's balanced attack. Ohio is also a very well-coached football team under Frank Solich. Tonight is the Bobcat Blackout game where Ohio ...

Nice win on the Chiefs last night. Let's be honest some good fortune as well, but probably were looking at a push if not the W. Makes up for getting hosed on USC a bit on Saturday. On to tonight.
Northern Illinois at Toledo Under 68
A lot is at stake here tonight as NIU takes on Toledo in the Glass Bowl, in a game with huge MAC conference implications. NIU blew them out last year 65-30, but this Toledo is very good at home and have performed well in this matchup historically. Norther Illinois is a solid team with wins over solid Army and Western Michigan squads, and features the conferences top offense led by quarterback Chandler Harnish, who can make plays with his arm and his legs, leading the team in rushing. Northern Illinois has been held to under 40 points only twice this season against Wisconsin and Buffalo. Wisconsin we can let slide, but Buffalo not so much. On the other side of the ball is a Toledo defense that has given up 40 only once to Boise State, and with the total set at 67 and NIU being 8.5 point dogs, Vegas clearly expects Toledo's defense to manage NIU's offense. Because NIU's defense has been suceptible at times, I think they know they need to slow the game down and pound the ball, or let Harnish run around, try to pick up first downs and keep the clock ticking. Toledo also has two good quarterbacks, who are both capable of escaping the pocket and picking up yards on the ground. As far as the side is concerned in ... [More]
