Can we have playoffs in NCF already?

Here we are again gents.....4 weeks left in the regular season with 7 UNBEATEN TEAMS...and a VERY REAL possibility of at least 3 teams ending up that way.

Not to mention the 4 or so 1 loss teams who have gotten better, will get better, or had a fluke game with a load of penalties/turnovers...that could possibly smokecheck one, if not ALL of the unbeatens?

And yet 2....yes 2 will get a chance to prove themselves....only 2 will get a chance to battle for superiority in a system that has proven to be flawed.

Argue all day about how to fix the system if you want, but to me the only way to fix it is to get rid of it as the system to choose only the top 2 teams to compete. Maybe we can keep the BCS around and let it decide the top 16, then turning it over to a playoff?

I know there is so much money tied up in the bowl games that its a long shot to happen soon, but it would be alot easier to tell a number 17 team.. "Sorry you didnt make it" than a number 3 team.

I love college football, and it seems unfair that some teams battle through tough schedules while other teams walk all over cupcake teams, and there is NO WAY of finding out how these teams would do against eachother until AFTER THE SEASON IS OVER!!!!

Is there any hope for a playoff? How can we make it happen?!?!

well I watch little to no NFL so I totally disagree.  The NFL gets interesting in the playoffs...college football is interesting the entire regular season where EVERY game matters.

I watch little to no NFL as well Tressel, simply pointing out that their way of deciding the season champion is more fair than NCAA football

that doesn't make it fair man....thats why....are you really gonna tell me that if florida, texas, boise st, iowa, and cincinnati all end up unbeaten that you can justify why all of them wouldn't get a chance to prove they are the best team?

what makes the NCAA more money, marquee season matchups and 50+ bowl games or a somewhat meaningless season and a 16 team playoff that would have 15 games total. gee i wonder why the ncaaf doesn't want a playoff. $$$$$$

Anyone know why the title of this post changed? when i put it up originally it was "Can we have Playoffs Already?".....why/how did it change?

I don't think we will ever see a playoff as you speak of.... That is just to many games and would take up to much time since there at least has to be a week inbetween games and then at least 2 weeks before the Championship game..I think the only playoffs we will see is a 4 team playoff which is a +1 system...They could encormorate that into the already BCS system but can not unitl the Rose Bowl gives in.. They know they have their Pac 10 schools in the perfect situation and they will always play a Big 10 school that USC and this year Oregon will beat the hell out of...They have done that ever since the SEC teams kept coming out there and beat their all mighty Pac 10 schools..

Yea, i think ur right that 16 teams would be too good to be true....but if u have time for a 4 team playoff (+1), you realize that if you add an extra week you have an 8 team playoff, and one more week equals 16 team playoff....so the difference to go from 4 to 16 teams is only 2 weeks!! Seems possible to me...just that no-one will back it.

All that has to be done to find that extra 2 weeks is shorten the regular season by one or 2 games, and possibly extend the season by 1 week....there are so many solutions its insane, but no one likes to change anything, and no one likes to stir the pot.

+1 is the way to go. It keeps the college football season as important and exciting as it always has been. You get to keep the tradition and $$$$ of all the bowl games as well. They need to add one more BCS game, maybe Capital One Bowl(Orlando is going to renovate Citrus Bowl), or the Cotton Bowl. Then rotate the two games that will feed to the BCS title game every year, and continue the rotation of title game location. BCS title game should be around the 10th of January every year. But as someone said earlier, Rose Bowl and Pac-10 are the big problem to this scenario. Maybe we will get it one day, but, until then, sorry to the 3rd and 4th best teams according to the the polls.

I have heard so many excuses about why it would not work and the biggest is the kids would miss to much school and that is right around the time finals are....The way I see it is the season ends the 1st weekend in December, make all colleges that are in the playoffs have a week off and have their finals during that week for the football players... Then start up the playoffs that next week which this year would be the 19th.... For a +1 system that is all that would be needed and for a 8 team play off give them Christmas off and play the 2nd round on January 2nd... Then the Championship game on Monday January 11th.... In this senario we are loosing what 4 days?? I think that is logical and if they thought about it they would make more money as they could use the BCS games as the playoff games and still have the BCS National Championship game...

All for it - if every other division in the NCAA can have one there is no reason they couldn't make this work.

first you will have to decide how to choose the best 16 teams in the country, correct?

the current ranking system is very questionable in my opinion...

I do agree that there should be a playoff system, but again, how would they decide on the best 16 teams?

it would extend the season by 4 weeks and there is already a 4 or 5 week gap between conference championships and bowl games....playoffs wouldnt really extend anything, and it would keep these shitty teams like Boise St. from bitching when their shitty team doesnt make the NC

The bottom line is that the system will not change in the forseeable future.  T.V. contracts are signed, and the BCS Conferences are all aboard.  So wait until 2014 for your arguments.  All they do is take up space now.  Most unfortunate, but true.

Another reason why this will not happen is the absolute logistical nightmare this poses.  If you are the #9-16 team, it is quite possible that your team travels to three different venues in 3 weeks.  A nghtmare for the fans, the teams, and the administrations.  Cut it down to an 8 team playoff, and you still have major problems.  Then their is the Bowl situation.  The Rose Bowl sells out every year, no matter who is playing.  Can anyone explain to them how they will generate more money going to some different system?  What about the Rose Parade, which means nothing to football fans, but everything to the Rose Bowl Committee.  Do you really think that the Rose Bowl would allow a game to be played on a day other than New Years Day?  If you do, comtinue to dream on.  It will never happen.

as much as everyone criticizes it, the BCS championship seems to get it right most of the time. Does anyone really think FL and Texas aren't the best two teams in the nation right now? Does anyone think that Okla and FL weren't the best two teams the year before that? BCS isn't perfect, but it would be tough to say that it doesn't TYPICALLY crown the correct national champion. Utah last year is a bad example because anyone who is real with themselves and not a homer knows that Utah would have lost to FL or Okla and Utah had the opportunity to join a BCS conference a few years ago and declined, essentially screwing themselves. BCS champ is usually best team in the nation at that point every year.

What the hell does that have to do with what's right?

SIMPLE PLAYOFF THOUGHT 8 TEAMS 7 GAMES TO DECIDE A CHAMPION. SO, THE B.c.S. DON'T MISS OUT ON THERE ENDORSEMENT MONEY EACH PLAYOFF GAME HAS IT'S REGULAR COMPANY TITLE ATTACHED TO IT. EXAMPLE CHARMIN PAPER TOILET BOWL LIKE IT IS TODAY.

You have a point, but honestly this is the kind of attitude that makes it so that it will "never" happen....If you really think about it...what power should the rose bowl committee really have over all of college football? They are tied in to so many people's pockets which is the only reason they have any power....all im saying is that the system we have seems to be corrupt and the rose bowl is actually the shining example of just how corrupt it is.

Oh and one more thing....teams HAVE road games....they happen, and in strings too! So i don't think 3 road games would be too terribly strenuous on a team
