CANADIENS COULD FACILITATE HEATLEY TRADE TO SHARKS

One day after the Edmonton Oilers announced they're out of the running for <a href="http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/?services; it appears that the disgruntled winger's request to leave the nation's capital isn't dead.

According to a report in the Ottawa Sun, Senators GM Bryan Murray could have ''an option'' to move Heatley to San Jose but it would need a third team involved - possibly the Montreal Canadiens - to facilitate a trade.

The newspaper reported that the Sharks have shown interest in the two-time 50-goal scorer, but what they're offering isn't intriguing Murray. According to the report, the Sharks have tabled a package that includes winger

''If the Sharks don't have what the Senators want, then (GM) Doug Wilson might have to go get it from another team,'' a league executive told Sun Media on Saturday. ''The Senators want a proven scoring winger in return and that means you might have to get a third team involved.''

A source told The Sun that a third team could be the Canadiens, but wasn't sure what San Jose could acquire from Montreal to satisfy the Senators' needs to deal Heatley.

Heatley, according to the report, would be willing to waive his no-movement clause to go to the Sharks.

''This is all up to Doug Wilson. If he wants to make big changes, this is the biggest one he can make,'' said a league executive.

According to the report, the Sharks have tabled a package that includes winger Jonathan Cheechoo, defenseman Christian Ehrhoff and a first-round draft pick.

I would be VERY suprised IF the Sharks traded "Cheech" and Ehrhoff for Heatley. they have the team to win a cup IF they can get past their annual first or second round "choaks" in the playoffs.

I don't think Heatley would add that much to their team and might be poison in the locker room.

Sharks are a long way away from winning the cup LRR...we know what choking

does to the mental physce....

ask HOSSA now his contract is under review..Funny how he played for Ottawa and couldn't get it done there either..sorry to change the subject

Adding Heatley changes the Dynamics of the team altogether..

but ,I sure hear what ur saying regarding the locker room stuff...but doesn't a change of scenery usually bring a change in attitude  Heatleys goal scoring touch is not the question  but it's the question that SJ has right ......

SJ is surely not getting it from cheechoo. Injuries a believe have alot to do with this in chechoos case

...maybe a trade of damaged goods...both players damaged in different areas.

Cheechoo , honestly IMHO. This trade can be the best thing for his carreer for him I hope it goes through...He'll bring that sandpaper type of game  Ottawa needs.NEIL.

As for Erhoff...A great little plug like D man who can suit up tha 2nd unit and play some decent minutes..Can somewhat QB a PP in his experience with the Sharks

I would love to see this happen!

you are correct that Cheechoo's stats have fallen off the last two seasons BUT I'm just not that impressed with Heatley. he has oodles of talent BUT seems to be a Jaromir Jagr style "one way" player that really could care less about his team.

I wouldn't make the trade.

A league source said Tuesday in Toronto that Dany Heatley will be traded to the San Jose Sharks "in the next two days".

I think the Sharks would rather trade Cheechoo than Ehrhoff. If this trade happens the Sens will have major trouble scoring goals unless Cheech rediscovers his touch.

The Canadiens have been linked to a three-way trade between the San Jose Sharks and Ottawa Senators.

The deal would see the

Habs receive center Patrick Marleau, the Sharks receive sniper Dany

Heatley, and the Senators acquire center Tomas Plekanec and goalie

Jaroslav Halak or defenseman Roman Hamrlik.
