Who is the NBA equivalent of Jamarcus Russell?

Meaning a player in the NBA who has all the talent in the world but makes dumb, bone headed mistakes constantly and plays at times like he could care less.

I vote Al Thornton of the Clippers. He actually makes the "Bad" Clippers worse. I watched the fourth quarter of the Clipps/Rockets tilt and it looked like a Al Thornton blooper reel.

I will give three plays for example:

Taking a jumper from the top of the key with a player in his face and12 seconds on the shot clock while Baron Davis calling for the ball to set up a play.

Walking across the key when a Houston player was already shooting a freethrow. The freethrow missed but the player was awarded another shot because of his dumb infraction. The player hit the extra shot(to the delight of Rockets backers I'm sure).

Fouling a Houston player shooting an off balance, rushed shot as they were trying to beat the shot clock.

Those were the plays from today but I've watched a few Clippers games this year and he seems to do these things consistently. The sad thing about it is he has amazing talent and should be netting 20 points a game.

Please share which players we should be aware of out there in the Association. I know you will.

Clippers suck , but Al Thornton once traded to another team and advised by a "real"coach he will do so much better !

But good article btw !

Greg Oden should be in the Sam Bowie category as he has been injured quite a bit since entering the NBA. His future in the league is already looking bleak. But I agree that he has all the tools to be a great player, but so far has yet to live up to expectations.

I'm sorry, there is no NBA equivalent of Jamarcus Russell. J. Russ in on a class by himself, take it from a Raider fan.

Bumping this thread to add who I believe is panning out to be a huge free agent bust. That player is:

Richard Jefferson SF SanAntonio Spurs

He is averaging just 12.5 Pts and 3.6 Rebounds per game this season after him and his 29 million dollars over the last two years of his contract were traded to the Spurs this off season.

The Spurs thought they were getting a Sean Elliot type small foward who can score and defend against the leagues premier swingmen. He has not lived up to expectations this season and lately has been non-existant.

The Spurs have been stinking it up lately losing 3 in a row at home, and 5 of their last 6 overall. Jefferson actually missed their lone win over this span, and in the five losses, is averaging 7.8 pts 1.8 Rebounds and a lousy 3 total assists. His line against the Bulls last night was 2 points on 1-8 FG and missing both his freethrows, with 2 rebounds in 26 minutes.

I'm sure the Spurs expect more from him, and if he cant perform for whatever reason, he should sit the bench for a few games untill he gets his game back to the level that it was when he was one of the premier fowards in the League.
